Selection Process

Selection to the post of Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner is made through a Recruitment Test (RT) followed by a personal interview. The Recruitment Test carries 300 marks and the interview carries 100 marks. While deciding the final result, the weightage given to the Recruitment Test and the interview is in the ratio of 75:25.

To qualify, a candidate must reach the minimum level of suitability in the interview stage, which is 50 marks for UR and EWS, 45 marks for OBC, and 40 marks for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, out of a total of 100 interview marks. Where a Recruitment Test is held, candidates must also meet a minimum level of suitability in the RT itself, decided by the Commission on a case to case basis.

Exam Pattern

The Recruitment Test will be of two hours duration, held in both English and Hindi, and will consist entirely of objective type multiple choice questions carrying equal marks. There is negative marking of one third of the marks assigned to a question for every wrong answer, though a question left blank does not attract any penalty.

The broad syllabus for the Recruitment Test covers the following areas:

  • General English
  • Indian Culture, Heritage and Freedom Movements
  • Developmental Issues and Present Trends in Indian Economy
  • Governance and Constitution of India
  • General Science and Basic Knowledge of Computer Applications

Centres are allotted on a first apply first allot basis, and once a centre reaches its capacity it is frozen for further applicants, so candidates hoping for a particular centre are advised not to wait until the last date.
