About BPSC TRE 4.0 Recruitment 2026
This is the fourth phase of the School Teacher Recruitment Examination being conducted by BPSC on behalf of the Education Department, Bihar. Application Fee
Every candidate has to pay an examination fee of Rs 100. Candidates applying for more than one category (Primary, Middle, Secondary, or Higher Secondary) must pay this fee separately for each category. Payment gateway charges levied by the bank are additional and are collected automatically at the time of online payment.
A separate biometric fee of Rs 200 is applicable for candidates who do not enter their Aadhaar number as identity proof in the online application.

Note: The Commission has stated that the number of published vacancies may increase or decrease if the requisitioning department revises its indent. Vacancies for certain regional and minority-language subjects at Class 9-10 and Class 11-12 levels will be notified separately once the supplementary indent is received from the General Administration Department.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the School Teacher post, a candidate must be an Indian citizen and must hold the educational and training qualification prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) from time to time for the relevant post. For Special School Teacher posts, qualification recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is required.
Candidates must also have qualified the relevant Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the State or Central Government:
- Primary School Teacher (Class 1 to 5): CTET Paper-I or BTET
- Middle School Teacher (Class 6 to 8): CTET Paper-II or BTET
- Secondary and Special School Teacher (Class 9 to 10): STET Paper-I
- Higher Secondary School Teacher (Class 11 to 12): STET Paper-II
Teachers who were appointed and were working before 2012 and who have qualified a competency test are exempt from this Teacher Eligibility Test requirement. Candidates who hold the required academic qualification and are appearing in the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026 can also apply, but they must clear STET 2026 before the preliminary examination is held; an admit card for the preliminary examination will not be issued to candidates who have not qualified STET 2026.
Age Limit
The minimum age is calculated as on 1 August 2026, and the maximum age is calculated with 1 August 2024 as the base year, as per rules of the Bihar Cadre and Administrative Reforms Department.

Age relaxation is separately admissible to persons with benchmark disability, ex-servicemen, and Bihar Government employees as per the applicable government resolutions referred to in the detailed advertisement. Retirement age for the post is 60 years.
Selection Process
Selection will be made on the basis of a Preliminary Examination followed by a Main Examination. There is no interview.
Preliminary Examination
The preliminary examination is a screening test only and will not be counted in preparing the final merit list. It consists of objective, multiple-choice questions on General Studies, carrying a total of 150 marks, to be completed in 2 hours. Each question carries 1 mark, and a negative marking of one-third mark is applicable for each wrong answer. Each question has five options (A, B, C, D, E); marking option E means the candidate has chosen not to attempt that question, and any question left completely unmarked will also attract the one-third negative mark.
Main Examination
The main examination is also objective and multiple-choice, carrying 150 marks with a duration of 2 hours, and the same negative marking rule of one-third mark per wrong answer applies. The structure varies by school category:
- Class 1 to 5 (Paper 1): Part I - Language (qualifying, minimum 30 percent marks required), Part II - General Studies
- Class 6 to 8 (Paper 2): Part I - Language (qualifying), Part II - General Studies, Part III - Subject paper chosen by the candidate
- Class 9 to 10 and Special School Teacher (Paper 3): Part I - Language (qualifying), Part II - General Studies, Part III - Subject paper chosen by the candidate
- Class 11 to 12 (Paper 4): Part I - Language (qualifying), Part II - General Studies, Part III - Subject paper chosen by the candidate
Candidates must secure at least the following minimum qualifying marks in the main examination to be considered: 40 percent for the Unreserved category, 36.5 percent for Backward Class, 34 percent for Extremely Backward Class, and 32 percent for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, women and persons with disability. There is no provision for re-evaluation of this examination.

How to Apply
Candidates can apply online through the BPSC online portal. Note that the Apply Online link is not included in this article and has to be added by the reader from the official website.
- Visit the official BPSC online application portal and complete One Time Registration (OTR) using a valid email ID and mobile number, if not already registered.
- After OTR, the DigiLocker "Meri Pehchan" portal will open. Sign in with an existing DigiLocker account or create a new one, and give consent for document access.
- Log in to the application dashboard using the OTR credentials and complete the profile in six steps: personal information, address information, other information, qualification information, experience information, and photo/signature upload.
- Lock the profile after verifying all details, since no changes are permitted in the profile after locking and submitting an application.
- Select the TRE-4.0 advertisement from the list of active advertisements, choose the desired post category and subject, and proceed to pay the fee.
- Complete the fee payment through the available online payment options and confirm the payment.
- After successful payment, open the application form, complete the remaining details and click Submit Application.
- Download and print two copies of the submitted application from the My Account tab, and keep them safely along with the original documents.
General Rules
- A candidate can apply for more than one category (school level), but must pay the application fee separately for each category applied for.
- Once payment is made for a chosen post and subject, the candidate cannot change the selection without first cancelling the payment and starting the process again.
- A candidate may take part in this examination a maximum of five times, as per the Bihar School Teacher (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Action and Service Conditions) Amendment Rules, 2024.
- All information filled in the online application will be treated as a self-declaration by the candidate; qualifications, experience and reservation claims will be verified by the Education Department after the examination.
- Submission of an online application does not by itself confirm a candidate's eligibility; final eligibility will be decided based on document verification.
