Important Dates

Event Date
Advertisement published 23 October 2026
Online registration (OTR) and application starts 24 October 2026
Last date to pay the online application fee 23 November 2026
Last date for editing the online application 26 November 2026
Written examination 23 and 24 December 2026

The notification gives 23 November 2026 as the closing point for the fee, and an application counts only when OTR, the form and the payment are all complete by the final date. A form without a completed payment is not considered, so it is safer to pay well before the deadline instead of on the last evening.

Application Fee

Category Fee
General, Unreserved, OBC, Economically Weaker Section and others Rs. 1,000
Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Rs. 500
Divyangjan Rs. 300

The fee can be paid by credit card, debit card or net banking on the portal. When you pay through card or net banking, the payment is confirmed through the bank, and the fee is treated as paid only after that bank confirmation comes in. Keep the fee receipt with you. The fee is not returned in any situation and cannot be adjusted against another application, so a mistake in the form is better fixed through the editing window than by filing again.

Reservation and Domicile Rules

Reservation follows the vertical, subject-wise pattern shown in the vacancy table for SC, ST, OBC and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates, and horizontal reservation applies as per rules. A few points in the notification deserve a careful read before you tick a category:

  • Reservation benefit is for Uttar Pradesh domiciles only. A reserved category candidate from outside Uttar Pradesh is treated as General.
  • A candidate who claims more than one reserved category receives only one concession, whichever is more beneficial.
  • For women candidates, only the caste certificate issued on the father's side is valid. A certificate that records her as the wife of a man from a reserved category is not accepted.
  • Caste certificates must be in the format fixed by the UP government. The EWS certificate must be for the financial year before the year of application and in the format fixed by the UP government.
  • Ex-servicemen means a person who served in the Army, Navy or Air Force and retired after earning a pension. Only those already retired by the application date or the last date are counted.
  • Dependents of freedom fighters covers sons and daughters (married or unmarried) and grandchildren of a freedom fighter, and the certificate must be in the prescribed format.
  • The EWS quota of 10 percent comes from the UP Public Services (Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections) Act 2020, which was enforced from 1 February 2019. EWS benefit is not available to candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh.
  • The Directorate has marked the post as suitable for Divyang candidates in several listed sub-categories, and disability under the notification covers blindness and low vision, hearing impairment, locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, and mental and learning disabilities as defined in it.

If you apply under a specific category, you must show proof of that category if you are selected under it. Failing to do so means you cannot be treated as selected under any other category, and a selection based on wrong information is cancelled.

Teacher Eligibility Test

Every candidate must also have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (T.E.T.) for upper primary level (classes 6 to 8) conducted by the UP government or the Government of India. The notification states that a valid certificate of the eligibility test prescribed for the post is mandatory up to 30 June 2027. Being named in the selection list does not itself give a right to appointment, and an appointment letter is issued only after the other required qualifications are met and the documents are verified.

Other Conditions in the Notification

  • Candidates must be mentally and physically fit, and they will be asked for a health certificate from a government hospital or primary health centre doctor before final selection.
  • A candidate with more than one living spouse, or one who married a person who already has a living spouse, is not eligible unless the Governor has granted an exemption.
  • The candidate must clearly state whether any case is pending in a court and whether the court has punished them. Hiding or wrongly giving this information can lead to cancellation of the candidature and selection.
  • Applicants in service need a No Objection Certificate from their employer, which is asked for at document verification.
  • A male candidate is not eligible for a teacher post in a girls' institution, though this does not apply to a blind candidate for the Music subject. A blind candidate is also not ineligible for a music teacher post.
  • The Commission's decision on eligibility is final, and it gives no separate advice on eligibility, so candidates should read the notification and apply only when satisfied.

Age Limit

The minimum age for Assistant Teacher (Graduate Scale) is 21 years on 1 July 2026, and the upper age limit for the post is 62 years. An application is not accepted if the date of birth is missing or if the candidate is above 62 years on 1 July 2026. Only the date of birth printed on the High School or equivalent certificate is valid, and no other record is accepted as proof. The age sections of the notification do not describe any separate age relaxation.

Pay Scale

The post is placed in Level 7 of the pay matrix, with pay from Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

Selection is based on the merit list of a single written examination. There is no interview or skill test mentioned in the notification, so the written score decides the order. Cut-off and marks of candidates will be shown on the website after the selection process is complete.

Feature Details
Total marks 360
Number of questions 120 multiple choice questions
General knowledge 30 questions
Subject-related 90 questions
Marks per correct answer 3
Negative marking 1 mark deducted for each wrong or multiple answer
Duration 2 hours
Language of paper Hindi and English, except for language subjects

Each question has four options and only one best option has to be chosen. The syllabus for the written test is available on the Commission's website, where it can be viewed and downloaded.

How a Tie Is Broken

If two or more candidates have the same merit, the higher percentage in graduation is looked at first. If that also matches, the percentage in the training qualification is considered. If the written exam, graduation and training percentages are all equal, the older candidate is placed higher.

Minimum Qualification Check Before the Exam

Candidates should make sure for themselves that they meet the minimum qualification before sitting the exam. Someone who does not meet it should not appear, because appearing in or even passing the written test does not make a candidate eligible for final selection.

How to Apply

Applications go through the OTR based online system only, and forms sent by any other route are not accepted. The steps are:

  1. Open the UPESSC website and read advertisement number 07/2026 in full, then confirm that you meet the qualification, eligibility test and age conditions for your subject.
  2. Keep scanned copies ready before you start: a passport size photo, a signature on white paper and your certificates, and go through the User Manual and tutorial videos available on the Commission's website.
  3. Complete One Time Registration (OTR) with correct details, because applications can be made only after OTR and no other mode of application is accepted.
  4. Log in from 24 October 2026 and fill the application form in English for Assistant Teacher (Graduate Scale), selecting your subject and choosing boys schools or girls schools carefully.
  5. Upload the photo and signature in JPG or JPEG format with a size between 10 KB and 100 KB, and upload each certificate in PDF format with a size between 20 KB and 200 KB.
  6. Pay the examination fee by credit card, debit card or net banking, wait for the bank to confirm the payment, and keep the fee receipt safely. The last date for fee payment is 23 November 2026.
  7. Submit the application finally and, if a mistake needs fixing, correct it through the editing facility that stays open until 26 November 2026.
  8. Take three printouts of the submitted application and keep them safe, because two copies must be handed in with two sets of documents at the time of document verification.

The registration and application must be filled in English. Once the form is finally submitted, the category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed, so enter them correctly at the registration stage itself.

Photo, Signature and Document Upload Specifications

Item Format Size
Passport size photograph JPG or JPEG 10 KB to 100 KB
Signature scanned on white paper JPG or JPEG 10 KB to 100 KB
Certificates and documents PDF 20 KB to 200 KB

If the photo of the prescribed size or a clear signature is not uploaded, or the declaration is not accepted, the application is rejected. If a declaration made in the form is later found false, the Commission can cancel the candidature and debar the candidate from this and other examinations, and can also take penal action.

Exam Centre, Admit Card and Exam Day Rules

Exam centres are set at district headquarters as needed, and any candidate may be allotted any centre. The name of the exam district is shown on the Commission's website at least 10 days before the exam, and the exact centre can be downloaded with the admit card about 3 days before. The admit card is downloaded using the registration number or mobile number and the date of birth. Information also comes by SMS, email and newspapers. A change of centre is not allowed in any situation, and a candidate who writes the exam at a centre or subject other than the one printed on the admit card will not have the answer sheet checked and the candidature is cancelled.

  • Bring a black ball point pen. Pens of other colours, fountain pens, gel pens, sketch pens, HB pencils and whitener cannot be used.
  • Fill the rectangular boxes and bubbles on the OMR sheet with a black ball point pen only. Once a bubble is filled, no change is accepted, and blackening more than one bubble for a question earns no marks.
  • Do not use an eraser, nail, blade or whitener on the OMR sheet, and do not put dots, ink marks or any other mark in the bubbles. Such a sheet is not evaluated, and the candidate is responsible for it.
  • Download the OMR sheet format from the website beforehand and practise filling it, so that mistakes are avoided in the exam hall.
  • Copying, indiscipline and misconduct in the exam hall lead to cancellation of the candidature and a possible bar from future exams.
  • No travel allowance is paid for appearing in the exam.

Scribe Facility for Divyangjan

Divyangjan candidates can take a scribe as per the government orders of 4 December 2019 and 8 September 2022. The candidate brings their own scribe and must register the full details at the Commission's office at least one week before the exam. These candidates get an extra 20 minutes for every hour, and no travel allowance is paid to the scribe.

Document Verification After the Exam

Candidates shortlisted on the basis of written exam marks are called for document verification, and the date, time and place are shared by SMS, email, newspaper and the website at least 10 days earlier. Attendance is compulsory, the date cannot be changed, and no daily or travel allowance is given. Every candidate must also give an oath on the format at Appendix 6 on the day.
