Every candidate must first register on the commission's website and only then fill the application form.
The vacancy figure comes with a court-related background. The commission states that the number of posts was requisitioned by the Directorate of Secondary Education, Prayagraj, in compliance with a High Court order dated 15 April 2026 in Special Appeal No. 376/2026 (Rajkumar Singh and others versus State of UP and others). The list of schools linked to these posts is part of the notification, and it includes posts from the 2019-20 and 2021-22 requisitions.

| Principal | 1318 | 157 | 1475 |
Within these figures, the commission mentions posts from the court-ordered requisitions: in boys' schools, 530 posts of 2019-20 and 114 posts of 2021-22, and in girls' schools, 69 posts of 2019-20 and 8 posts of 2021-22. The commission also warns that the final number of vacancies can increase or decrease. The school-wise list of requisitioned posts runs through the later pages of the notification, so check your preferred districts there before applying.
The Secondary Education Directorate has marked the Principal post as suitable for candidates with certain disability sub-categories, namely OA, OL, B, BA, LV, D, HH, LC, DW, AAV, ASD, SLD, ID, MI, BL, BLA, BH and MDY. Disabled candidates in these sub-categories can compete for the unreserved posts, provided their disability certificate is in the prescribed format.

| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, Other Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Section | Rs 2,000 |
| Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe | Rs 2,000 |
| Persons with Disability | Rs 2,000 |
Payment can be made on the portal through a credit card, debit card or net banking. When a card or net banking is used, the payment counts only after the bank confirms it. Keep the receipt, because an application is not valid if OTR and payment are not completed before the last date. The fee paid is not refunded and cannot be adjusted against another application.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Selection is done through a merit list built from 400 marks: a 360-mark written exam and a 40-mark interview.
| Stage | Marks | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Written exam | 360 | 120 objective multiple-choice questions, 2 hours, Hindi and English medium except language subjects |
| Interview | 40 | Only for candidates shortlisted on written exam marks |
| Total | 400 | Final merit list |
Each correct answer earns 3 marks, and each wrong or multiple answer costs 1 mark. Cut-off marks of the written exam and candidates' marks are displayed on the commission's website after the selection process is complete. The written exam syllabus is available on the same website.
How Ties Are Broken
If two or more candidates have equal merit, the commission looks at the following in order:
- Marks in the written exam
- Marks in the interview
- Highest percentage in the postgraduate degree
- Marks in B.Ed
- If all of these are equal, the older candidate is placed higher
Exam Centres and Admit Card
Exam centres are set up at district headquarters, and any centre may be allotted to a candidate. The exam district can be seen on the admit card about 10 days before the exam, and the exact centre about 3 days before it. A candidate who writes the exam at a centre other than the one printed on the admit card will have the answer sheet left unchecked and the candidature cancelled. The OMR sheet must be filled with a black ball point pen only, and use of erasers, blades or whitener makes the sheet invalid.
Rules to Know Before Filling the Form
- The registration and the application must be filled in English.
