What This Recruitment Covers
The posts are in aided schools, meaning non-government institutions that receive government assistance. The requisition for these posts came to the Commission from the Secondary Education Directorate, Prayagraj, and the school-wise list is attached to the notification as an annexure arranged by division and district.
One detail worth noting is that the posts are tied to a High Court order. The notification refers to Special Appeal No. 376/2026 and an order dated 15 April 2026, and says the vacancy list includes boys' school posts from 2019-20 (434) and 2021-22 (84), and girls' school posts from 2019-20 (58) and 2021-22 (10). The notification also says that all of these posts are unreserved, and that the number of vacancies can change.

Vacancy Details
| Post | Boys' Schools | Girls' Schools | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Head Master (Pradhanadhyapak) | 1,037 | 135 | 1,172 |
Because every post is unreserved, there is no category-wise or state-wise table in the notification. Instead, the annexure lists each school with its division, district, school name, the year of requisition and whether it is a boys' or girls' institution. Candidates should go through that list before applying, since the final school allotment is handled later by the Director of Secondary Education, Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj.

The minimum age is 30 years as on 1 July 2026. The retirement age for the post is 62 years, and an application is not accepted if the candidate is above 62 on 1 July 2026. For age, only the date of birth printed on the high school or equivalent certificate is valid.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Selection depends on a merit list prepared from 400 marks: a written test of 360 marks and an interview of 40 marks.

|---|---|---|
| Written Examination | 360 | 120 multiple-choice questions, 3 marks each, 2 hours, 1 mark deducted for a wrong or multiple answer |

| Total | 400 | Final merit list |
Written Exam Rules
Question papers are bilingual, in Hindi and English, except for language subjects. Answers are marked on an OMR sheet with a black ball point pen only. Whitener, gel pens, pencils and any correction on the OMR sheet are not allowed, and an OMR sheet with extra marks or errors will not be evaluated. A candidate who appears at a centre other than the one printed on the admit card will not have the answer sheet checked.
The district of the exam centre is communicated 10 days before the exam, and the centre details 3 days before, through the admit card link on the Commission's website. The admit card is downloaded with the registration number or mobile number and date of birth. No travel allowance is paid for the exam or the interview.
Tie-Breaking Order
If candidates have equal merit, the Commission looks first at written exam marks, then interview marks, then the highest postgraduate percentage, and then B.Ed or B.P.Ed marks. If everything is still equal, the older candidate is placed higher.
Interview Schedule
Shortlisted candidates are informed of the interview date, time and venue at least 10 days in advance by SMS, email and the Commission's website. Interview dates cannot be changed on request, and attendance is compulsory for those declared successful in the written exam.
