Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1972 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, or Zambia with the intention of permanently settling in India, subject to a certificate of eligibility issued by the State Government where applicable.
Educational Qualification
As on 1 January 2026, the applicant must possess the following:
- Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution.
- Diploma or Certificate of at least six months' course in Computer Application from a recognized institution.
Preferential Qualification
Candidates who have served in the Territorial Army for a minimum of two years, or who hold a "B" certificate of the National Cadet Corps, shall be given preference at the time of interview, other things being equal.
Age Limit
A candidate must not be below 18 years of age as on 1 January 2026, that is, must not be born later than 1 January 2008. The category-wise maximum age limit is as follows:

Candidates already employed under the Central Government or Government of Bihar get an additional 5 years of age relaxation. Locomotor Disabled candidates get a further 10-year relaxation in their respective category's upper age limit, subject to production of a valid Disability Certificate. Candidates already serving in the High Court establishment, on daily wages, in subordinate courts, or on deputation are not subject to the upper age limit at all. Category-based age relaxation is available only to permanent residents of Bihar.

Horizontal reservation is fixed at 35 percent for Women candidates and 4 percent for Locomotor Disabled candidates. These horizontal reservation benefits are granted only to permanent residents of Bihar. Candidates who do not claim reservation, or who do not correctly mention their category in the application form, will be treated as General (Unreserved) category candidates without any option to change this later.
Pay Scale
The selected candidates will be placed in Level-4 (Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100) of the pay matrix of the 7th Pay Revision Committee, along with usual allowances admissible under the Patna High Court Officers and Staff Rules, 2021. Appointment will initially be on probation for a period of one year.

Exam Pattern
The Ex-Cadre Assistant Recruitment Examination, 2026, will be conducted across the following stages, as detailed in Annexure-I of the notification:

There is negative marking of one-fourth mark, that is 0.25 marks, for every wrong answer in the Preliminary Test and Written Test. If a Preliminary Test is held, 10 times the number of advertised vacancies will be shortlisted for the Written Test. Based on Written Test performance, 6 times the vacancies will be shortlisted for the Computer Proficiency Test, and 3 times the vacancies will be shortlisted for the Interview, each following the model roster point and reservation policy of the High Court.
