Who Can Apply for JEE Main 2027

Age and Year of Passing

The bulletin sets no age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2027. What matters is the year of the Class 12 result: candidates who passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2025 or 2026, or who are appearing in 2027, can apply. Candidates who passed in 2024 or before are not eligible.

The passing year is the year in which your result was first declared as pass. The bulletin gives an example: a candidate who passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 2025 and then passed Mathematics in 2026 is treated as having passed in 2025, and an improvement attempt is not counted as a first attempt. Candidates appearing in the 2027 board examination can enter their roll or registration number in the form.

Qualifying Examinations

The list of accepted qualifications is wide. It covers the following, among others:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system from any recognized Central or State Board, including CBSE and CISCE.
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examinations from a recognized Board or University.
  • Senior Secondary examination of NIOS with a minimum of five subjects, and the BOSSE Sikkim examination.
  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
  • A diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least three years.
  • GCE Advanced level, Cambridge High School Certificate and International Baccalaureate Diploma.
  • Any foreign or Indian public examination that the Association of Indian Universities has recognized as equal to 10+2.

Candidates who studied abroad or under a Board not named in the bulletin should carry an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities. NTA also points out that it is responsible only for conducting the test, so each candidate should separately check the eligibility rules of the institute where admission is wanted.

State of Eligibility

The State code of eligibility is the State from where you passed Class 12, not your native place or home address. The bulletin gives a clear example: a student who sits the Class 12 examination at a school in New Delhi but lives in Noida will have Delhi as the State of eligibility, not Uttar Pradesh. For improvement attempts, the State of the first pass counts. NIOS and BOSSE candidates select the State where their study centre is located.

JEE Main 2027 Application Fee

The fee is charged per session and depends on the paper or papers chosen, the category, gender and whether the exam centre is in India or abroad.

Payment Rules Worth Knowing

  • The late fee of Rs. 500 is the same for every category and is added on top of the normal fee.
  • Payment is accepted only online, through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.
  • Processing charges and GST, where applicable, are paid by the candidate in addition to the exam fee.
  • The form counts as successfully submitted only after the fee is received, and the Confirmation Page is generated only after that.
  • NTA does not refund a successfully paid application fee, although failed or duplicate transactions are handled through a verified refund procedure.
  • If the Confirmation Page does not appear after payment, first check the payment status with the bank or payment gateway, and contact the NTA helpline if the bank confirms the payment went through.

How to Fill the NTA JEE Main Online Form 2027

The whole process is online, including uploads, fee payment and printing of the Confirmation Page. Nothing needs to be posted or emailed to NTA. Registration is done through the NTA JEE Main website, and the steps below follow the order given in the bulletin.

  1. Download the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin from the NTA website and read the eligibility rules, fee table and document requirements before you start.
  2. Register for the online application form, which is enabled through the MeriPehchaan single sign-on service, create a password and note down the system-generated Application Number.
  3. Log in with the Application Number and password, then fill in your personal details, choose the paper or papers, select up to four exam cities in order of priority, pick the question paper medium and enter your educational qualification details.
  4. Upload your live photograph, scanned passport size photograph, signature and Class 10 certificate or marksheet, along with any disability, UDID or passport document that applies to you, in the prescribed format and size.
  5. Pay the examination fee online through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI before 11:50 P.M. on 22 November 2026, and keep the proof of payment.
  6. Download, save and print the Confirmation Page, which is generated only after the fee is paid successfully, and keep the Application Number safe for all future correspondence.
  7. If any detail needs fixing, use the correction window from 27 November 2026 to 29 November 2026 and edit only the fields that NTA has enabled.

Photo and Document Specifications

Every upload must be clearly legible and must be your own. Using someone else's photograph, signature or certificate is treated as unfair means.

Item Format Size
Photograph (colour, 80 percent face visible including ears, no mask, white background) JPG / JPEG 10 kB to 200 kB
Signature JPG / JPEG 10 kB to 100 kB
Class 10 or Equivalent Certificate / Marksheet PDF 50 kB to 300 kB
Disability / UDID Certificate (if applicable) PDF 50 kB to 300 kB
Certificate of Physical Limitation to Write (if applicable) PDF 50 kB to 300 kB
Non-Indian Passport (foreign nationals including OCI) PDF 50 kB to 300 kB

A live photograph is also captured during form filling. If your device has no webcam, the form lets you scan a QR code and use a mobile phone or tablet instead. Keep the background white and the lighting even.

Password Rules

The password must be 8 to 13 characters long and must contain at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, one number and one special character. It can be reset through an SMS code on the registered mobile number or a reset link sent to the registered email address. Do not share it with anyone, and log out after every session.

Mobile Number, Email and Duplicate Forms

NTA sends important communication only to the email address and mobile number given in the form, so both must belong to the candidate or a parent or guardian who can be reached easily. One mobile number and one email address can be used for only one application form. Submitting more than one form is discouraged, and if a candidate actually appears under more than one Application Number, the bulletin treats it as unfair means.

Exam Papers, Pattern and Marking Scheme

Paper 1 is for B.E. / B.Tech. admission, Paper 2A is for B.Arch. and Paper 2B is for B.Planning. Paper 1 is also the route to JEE (Advanced). Everything is a Computer Based Test except the Drawing Test of Paper 2A, which is done on paper using an A4 drawing sheet.

Paper Structure Questions Marks
Paper 1 (B.E. / B.Tech.) Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, each with 20 multiple choice and 5 numerical value questions 75 300
Paper 2A (B.Arch.) Mathematics (20 multiple choice, 5 numerical, 100 marks), Aptitude Test (50 questions, 200 marks), Drawing Test (2 questions, 100 marks) 77 400
Paper 2B (B.Planning) Mathematics (25 questions, 100 marks), Aptitude Test (50 questions, 200 marks), Planning Based Questions (25 questions, 100 marks) 100 400

Marking Scheme

  • Correct answer: plus 4 marks.
  • Incorrect answer: minus 1 mark, in both the multiple choice and the numerical value sections.
  • Unanswered or marked for review without an answer: no marks.
  • Numerical answers are entered with the on-screen keypad and rounded off to the nearest integer.
  • The Drawing Test in Paper 2A is evaluated out of 100 marks, with two questions.

If a question has more than one correct option, marks go to those who marked any correct option, and if a question is dropped, full marks for it are given to all candidates who appeared in that shift. Ties in Paper 1 are broken first by the NTA score in Mathematics, then Physics, then Chemistry, and after that by the proportion of incorrect to correct answers.

Duration of Each Paper

Paper Regular Candidates PwD / PwBD Candidates Eligible for Scribe
Paper 1, Paper 2A or Paper 2B 3 hours 4 hours
Paper 2A and Paper 2B together 3 hours 30 minutes 4 hours 40 minutes

The detailed syllabus is published on the NTA website, and the bulletin does not reproduce it.

Medium of the Question Paper

The paper is set in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Every question paper is bilingual, with English plus the language you pick, and the English version prevails if the two differ. English and Hindi, and English and Urdu, are available at all centres in India, while the other regional languages are offered in specific States and Union Territories. Choose carefully, because the medium cannot be changed after the correction window closes, and you must use the same medium on exam day.

Reservation and Provisions for PwBD Candidates

Seats for Indian nationals are reserved as per Government of India rules, and the category and sub-category you enter in the JEE Main form are also carried forward to JEE (Advanced). That makes this section of the form worth filling slowly.

  • Gen-EWS: 10 percent of seats in every program.
  • OBC (NCL): 27 percent, limited to castes in the central list of OBCs. Creamy layer candidates are treated as General.
  • SC: 15 percent and ST: 7.5 percent.
  • PwBD: 5 percent in each of the General, Gen-EWS, OBC (NCL), SC and ST categories.

Candidates with benchmark disability who are eligible for a scribe get compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, whether or not they actually use the scribe. NTA provides the scribe if the candidate asks for one, and a candidate may also bring their own scribe by submitting the undertaking at Annexure III. For PwD and PwBD candidates, the UDID details are checked against the UDID portal, and any mismatch can be corrected only in the correction window. Reservation benefits depend on document verification, and false documents lead to exclusion from all admission processes.

Choosing Exam Cities

You can choose up to four cities from the list in Appendix II of the bulletin, in order of preference. The choice is limited to the State of your permanent address or present address, and where fewer than four cities exist there, cities from other States may be offered. Candidates with an address outside India must choose at least one city in India. NTA tries to allot the first available choice, but it reserves the right to allot a different city, or to merge cities when very few candidates opt for one. Once allotted, the city and shift on the admit card will not be changed.

Admit Card and Exam Day Rules

The e-Admit Card is issued on the NTA website, from 13 January 2027 for Session 1 and from 25 March 2027 for Session 2. It is not sent by post and no duplicate is issued at the centre, so print at least four copies. Admit card issue is provisional and does not by itself confirm eligibility.

Exam Day Timeline

Activity First Shift Second Shift
Entry, frisking and document check 7:00 A.M. to 8:30 A.M. 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Instructions by invigilator 8:30 A.M. to 8:50 A.M. 2:30 P.M. to 2:50 P.M.
Candidates log in to read instructions 8:50 A.M. 2:50 P.M.
Test begins 9:00 A.M. 3:00 P.M.

Candidates are advised to reach two hours before the test starts. Gates close 30 minutes before the start time, and latecomers are not allowed in. Candidates wearing articles of faith or customary dress should also report two hours early so that frisking can be completed.

What to Carry

  • A clear A4 printout of the admit card along with the duly filled self declaration (undertaking).
  • Two additional passport size photographs, the same as the one uploaded in the form.
  • One original, valid photo ID such as a school ID card, PAN card, driving licence, voter ID, passport, Aadhaar, Class 12 board admit card, ration card with photograph or bank passbook with photograph.
  • Relevant disability or scribe certificate, for candidates who need it.
  • For the B.Arch. Drawing Test: your own geometry box, pencils, erasers and colour pencils or crayons. Water colours are not allowed.

What Not to Carry

Mobile phones, earphones, calculators, watches of any kind, smart glasses, handbags, wallets, belts, caps, metallic items, stationery, geometry or pencil boxes, and printed or written material are barred. Only a transparent water bottle is allowed, and diabetic candidates who declared it in the form may carry sugar tablets or whole fruits. A ballpoint pen and rough sheets are given at the centre, and the rough sheets must be returned to the invigilator.

Unfair means, which include impersonation, using electronic devices, uploading morphed photographs or filing multiple forms, can lead to cancelled results and a debarment of up to three years. No re-test is held for anyone who misses the scheduled date.

Answer Key, Result and What Comes Next

After each session NTA displays the question paper attempted and the recorded responses, along with the provisional answer key. Candidates can challenge an answer by paying a non-refundable Rs. 200 per question, and these keys are likely to stay up for only two to three days. The final key is prepared after expert review, and the result is based on it. There is no re-evaluation or re-checking of the result.

Marks from different shifts are converted into NTA scores. For candidates who appear in both sessions, the better of the two total NTA scores is used to prepare the Common Rank List, which is declared after Session 2. Only this rank list is used for admissions through JoSAA and CSAB to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutions.

For JEE (Advanced) 2027, a candidate must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates, all categories included, in the B.E. / B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2027. NTA conducts the test but does not allot seats, so questions about counselling and admission go to JoSAA, CSAB or the institute concerned. Candidates should also save their Confirmation Page, admit card and scorecard, because these will not be available after 31 July 2027.

The online application for Session 1 can be submitted from 24 October 2026 to 22 November 2026, up to 11:50 P.M., and the fee must also be paid successfully by the same time. Candidates who miss this deadline can still submit the form from 23 November 2026 to 26 November 2026 by paying an extra late fee of Rs. 500.

Q2. When Will JEE Main 2027 Session 1 and Session 2 Be Held?

Session 1 is scheduled on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027, and Session 2 is scheduled on 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 April 2027. The exact date, shift and city for each candidate will be printed on the admit card.

Q3. Who Is Eligible to Appear in JEE Main 2027?

There is no age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2027. Candidates who passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2025 or 2026, or who are appearing in 2027, can apply, while those who passed in 2024 or earlier are not eligible. Individual institutes may still have their own age criteria for admission.

Q4. How Much Is the JEE Main 2027 Application Fee?

For one paper at a centre in India, the fee is Rs. 1,000 for General male candidates and Rs. 800 for General female candidates. Gen-EWS and OBC (NCL) male candidates pay Rs. 900 and female candidates pay Rs. 800, while SC, ST, PwD, PwBD and third gender candidates pay Rs. 500. Processing charges and GST are payable by the candidate over and above these amounts.

Q5. Do I Need to Fill a New Form for Session 2?

No new registration is needed if you have already applied for Session 1, because the same Application Number is used for both sessions. You log in during the Session 2 window and pay the Session 2 fee, and a candidate who wants to appear only in Session 2 can register later when that form opens.

Q6. Is There Negative Marking in JEE Main 2027?

Q7. Which Documents Must Be Uploaded With the JEE Main 2027 Form?

Candidates must upload a live photograph, a scanned passport size photograph, a signature and a scanned Class 10 or equivalent certificate or marksheet. A disability or UDID certificate, a certificate for physical limitation to write, and a non-Indian passport for foreign nationals including OCI candidates are needed only where they apply.

Only through the one-time correction window, which runs from 27 November 2026 to 29 November 2026 for Session 1 and allows edits only in the fields NTA enables. NTA does not accept corrections sent by post, fax, WhatsApp, email or by hand, and the question paper medium cannot be changed once the correction window closes.
