Since NSRY is a defence establishment, applications from candidates with questionable antecedents will be summarily rejected, and even a selected candidature can be cancelled if police verification does not come back clean.
Educational Qualification
The minimum requirement is matriculation followed by an ITI passed in the respective trade under NCVT or SCVT. The eligible ITI trades for each designated trade are listed in the vacancy table above, as per Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, amended from time to time.
Age Limit
Candidates must be at least 18 years old as on one day before the commencement date of the IT-03 Batch training. There is no upper age restriction for this apprenticeship, in line with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship office memorandum dated 20 December 2021.
Physical Standards and Previous Training
Physical fitness must meet the standard set out in Rule 4 and Schedule II of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, and candidates will be examined by the Yard Medical Officer, NSRY, Sri Vijaya Puram before enrolment. Candidates who have already undergone, or are currently undergoing, apprenticeship in the same trade under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in any government, public sector, or private organisation are not eligible to apply for this batch.
Reservation of Vacancies
Reservation follows Rule 5, Sub Rule (1), with amplification in Schedule II A, and Rule 5, Sub Rule (2) of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, as applicable in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. NSRY has clarified that although it does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, caste, religion, or place of birth, it is registered as a factory engaged in activities considered risky, hazardous, physically demanding, and arduous. Accordingly, 3 percent of vacancies are horizontally reserved for Persons with Disability who meet the fitness relaxation criteria in Rule 4, and a further 3 percent of overall vacancies are reserved for Ex-servicemen and their children, and for children of serving armed forces personnel. Vacancies reserved for PwD and Ex-servicemen categories are adjusted within the appropriate UR, OBC, SC, or ST category, and any reserved vacancy that cannot be filled for want of eligible candidates is filled by candidates outside that category rather than carried forward to the next enrolment.
Stipend and Clothing
Apprentices will be paid a monthly stipend in accordance with the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, or as revised by the Government from time to time, subject to registration on the online apprenticeship portal and execution of a valid apprenticeship contract. On joining, apprentices will also be supplied with two pairs of workshop overalls, one pair of safety shoes, two pairs of safety gloves, safety goggles, one safety helmet, one pair of ear defenders, and a uniform consisting of a half-sleeve shirt and trouser, or as revised from time to time.
Selection Process
Selection begins with a preliminary merit list drawn trade-wise and category-wise, based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in the ITI trade and Std X. Candidates on this preliminary list are called for an interview at the Apprentice Training School, NSRY, Sri Vijaya Puram, which carries 50 marks and includes a test of technical skills in the relevant trade. Call letters are issued only through the registered email ID after document scrutiny, so candidates are advised to check their email regularly. The final merit list is based on interview marks; in case of a tie, the candidate with the earlier date of birth is placed higher, and if ties persist, alphabetical order of name as per the Std X certificate is used.
