Important Dates

The preliminary exam on 28.10.2026 will be conducted in two shifts. The first shift reports between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM for a 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon exam, and the second shift reports between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM for a 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM exam. Application Fee

Candidates who are already Madhya Pradesh Police departmental employees applying under the departmental quota pay a separate, lower fee of Rs 200 for unreserved and Rs 100 for SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories. On top of the exam fee, an MP Online portal charge of Rs 60 applies if the form is filled through a kiosk, or Rs 20 if filled directly through a registered citizen login. Fee once paid is non-refundable, and offline payment is not accepted.

Vacancy Details

The 507 vacancies are divided across seven post categories. Each category is further reserved horizontally for Open candidates, Ex-Servicemen (10 percent), serving Police personnel (15 percent) and women (35 percent, not applicable to SI Special Armed Force which is open only to male candidates). The table below gives the post-wise total along with this horizontal break-up as published in the notification.

Within each of these totals, the notification also lays out a vertical break-up across Unreserved, OBC, SC, ST and EWS categories along with separate cut-off percentiles that the board calculates dynamically after the exam. Since this vertical table uses a two-stage notional and provisional calculation method that is specific to MP-ESB, candidates who need the exact category-wise figures for their own reservation category should refer to the official notification or the detailed rule book linked on the MP-ESB website.

Non-Madhya-Pradesh domicile candidates can only apply against the unreserved-open category, and their age will be capped at a maximum of 33 years with no reservation or age relaxation benefit.

Nationality And Domicile

Applicants must be citizens of India. For any category of reservation to apply, the candidate must hold a permanent Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate. Candidates who are not Madhya Pradesh domiciles can apply only under the unreserved-open category of any post.

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on the last date of the online application, 23.09.2026.

Additional age relaxation of up to 5 years is available to Vikram Award winners and to candidates who married outside their caste under the government-recognised inter-caste marriage promotion scheme. Ex-servicemen get relaxation equal to their years of military service, subject to the resulting age not exceeding the upper limit by more than 3 years. No relaxation is granted under any other circumstance, and no medical certificate is accepted as grounds for changing the fixed test dates.

Pay Scale

Both the Subedar and all Sub Inspector cadre posts carry Level 9 pay of Rs 36,200 to Rs 1,14,800. During the mandatory three-year probation, selected candidates draw a stipend of 70 percent of the minimum pay in the first year, 80 percent in the second year and 90 percent in the third year, along with other allowances applicable to Madhya Pradesh government employees.

Selection Process

Selection is conducted in two stages by MP-ESB and the Police Headquarters selection committee together.

Stage 1: Preliminary Written Exam

This is a qualifying-only exam of 100 marks and 2 hours duration, with no negative marking. It covers Hindi comprehension, English comprehension, analytical ability, history, geography, science, civics, basic computer knowledge, reasoning, and current affairs. Marks scored here do not count toward the final merit; they only decide who advances to Stage 2, based on category-wise cut-off percentiles that are fixed after the exam.

Stage 2: Main Exam, Physical Test And Interview

The main exam carries 1/3rd negative marking for each wrong answer in objective questions; unattempted questions carry no penalty. Candidates for technical posts sit an extra technical paper on a separate day from the main exam. Only candidates who clear the minimum qualifying marks in the Physical Efficiency Test move on to document verification and interview, and final selection is based on marks scored in the main exam, physical test and interview combined.

Physical Standards

Candidates must not have any eye disease, with uncorrected vision of at least 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other, and the ability to distinguish primary colours through an Ishihara plate test. Knock-knees and flat feet are not permitted, and no relaxation is given in these minimum physical standards for any reason.

Physical Efficiency Test

The Physical Efficiency Test is compulsory for every candidate and carries 100 marks in total, split across three events.

Candidates for non-technical posts must score at least 30 marks, and candidates for technical posts at least 20 marks, in the Physical Efficiency Test to remain in contention. Ex-servicemen and technical-post candidates are assessed against relaxed physical standard tables published separately in the recruitment rule book. No date change is permitted for the physical test on medical or any other ground.

2. Register with your basic details and choose your preferred post or posts in order of priority, since preference recorded at this stage cannot be changed later for merit purposes.
3. Fill in your educational qualification, category, domicile and other personal details carefully, since no correction of certificates is done at the board level.
4. Upload a recent colour photograph, your signature and a handwritten declaration as per the specified format and size.
5. Pay the applicable exam fee and MP Online portal fee through credit card, debit card or net banking, or through an authorised MP Online kiosk.
6. Submit the form and save the printed copy of the application along with the payment receipt for future reference.
7. Download the admit card from the MP-ESB website closer to the exam date and carry it along with a valid photo identity proof to the exam centre.

Exam Centres

The preliminary written exam will be held online at the following centres: Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Neemuch, Ratlam, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi, Ujjain, Barwani and Anuppur. Candidates can mark up to four preferred centres in order while filling the form, though the board may allot any of the listed centres based on seat availability.
