Medical Standards – SSF Constable 2026

  • Eye Sight: Both eyes must be 6/6 without correction and without wearing glasses.
  • The candidate must not suffer from knock-knees, flat foot, varicose veins or squint in the eyes. Must possess high colour vision and be in good mental and bodily health, free from any physical defect likely to interfere with efficient performance of duties.
  • Tattoos:
    • Content: Tattoos depicting religious symbols or figures and names as followed in Indian Army are permitted.
    • Location: Tattoos on traditional sites — inner aspect of forearm (left forearm only, being non-saluting limb) or dorsum of the hands are allowed.
    • Size: Must be less than 1/4 of the particular part (Elbow or Hand) of the body.

Selection Process – SSF Constable Barber and Washerman 2026

The selection process is conducted in four phases:

Phase I – Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST)

Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

  • PET is qualifying in nature. No marks are awarded. Candidates who do not qualify any event of PET shall be eliminated.
  • There is no provision of appeal against failure in PET.
  • Note: PET will NOT be held for Ex-Servicemen. However, Ex-Servicemen must qualify the PST, Written Examination, Trade/Skill Test and Medical Examination.

Physical Standard Test (PST): Candidates who qualify PET will be screened for Height, Chest and Weight measurements. Those not meeting required physical measurements will be eliminated. Candidates not satisfied with the physical measurement may appeal on the same day to the Appellate Authority through the Presiding Officer. Decision of the Appellate Authority is final. Underweight/Overweight candidates will not be debarred at PST stage; the final decision on fitness will be taken at Detailed Medical Examination (DME).

Phase II – Written Examination (50 Marks)

  • Candidates who qualify PST will appear in the Written Examination.
  • The exam carries 50 marks, consists of objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
  • Mode: OMR or Computer Based Test (CBT) – at the discretion of SSF/ITBPF.
  • Duration: 1 Hour.
  • There will be no negative marking.
  • Answer Key will be uploaded on recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in after the exam.
  • There shall be no provision for re-evaluation or re-checking of scores.

Phase III – Trade Test (50 Marks)

  • Candidates who qualify the written examination — to the tune of 10 times category-wise vacancies — will be called for Trade Test based on marks secured in the written exam.
  • Each candidate will be allowed to appear for one trade test only (as applied in online form).
  • Trade test carries 50 marks. Qualifying marks are 50% for all categories.
  • Trade test is qualifying in nature only and marks are not counted in the merit list.

Merit List

  • After Written Examination, merit lists will be drawn separately for each category (UR, SC, OBC NCL, and Ex-Servicemen) on the basis of marks obtained in Written Examination.
  • Candidates shortlisted from merit list will be called for Verification of Original Documents and Detailed Medical Examination (DME) as per category-wise vacancies.
  • There shall be no reserve list.
  • SC and OBC candidates selected on their own merit without relaxed standards will be accommodated against General/Un-reserved vacancies.
  • In case of tie in marks: the candidate older in age will be ranked higher. If the tie persists, alphabetical order (English) will be used.

Phase IV – Verification of Original Documents and Medical Examination

  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from employer in original as per Annexure-III (for Government servants)
  • Certificate as per Annexure-IV for claiming relaxation in height and chest (if applicable)
  • Domicile Certificate / PAN Card / Aadhar Card / Driving License / Voter Card for citizenship verification
  • Discharge certificate for Ex-Servicemen
  • Eight latest passport size photographs

Detailed Medical Examination (DME): Only candidates who clear documentation will undergo DME conducted as per Uniform Guidelines for Recruitment Medical Examination for CAPFs and AR issued vide MHA U.O. No. A.VI-1/2014-Rectt(SSB).

Review Medical Examination (RME): Candidates declared unfit in DME may appeal for RME by giving written consent within 24 hours of being informed of unfitness. RME will be conducted in continuation of DME, preferably on the next day. Decision of ITBPF Board of Medical Officers shall be final. There will be no provision of "Temporary Unfit" — the verdict will be either FIT or UNFIT only.

  2. Read the complete notification carefully and check your eligibility for Constable (Barber) or Constable (Washerman) post before proceeding.
  3. Register on the ITBPF recruitment website and create your profile by filling in all details including Category (UR/SC/OBC NCL), employment status, and other required information correctly.
  4. Fill the online application form with all required details — personal information, educational qualification, domicile details, and other segments clearly, correctly, and logically.

Important Instructions for Candidates

  • Provide a genuine and functional email ID and mobile number at the time of filling the online application form. Admit Card will be issued online only — ITBPF/SSF will not be responsible for non-receipt of Admit Card due to technical reasons.
  • Candidates are required to bring sufficient copies of the same passport size photograph used in the online application form at all stages of recruitment.
  • Biometric capture will be done before start of PET and PST. Failure in biometric verification at any stage will lead to cancellation of candidature. Candidates must ensure their hands are clean for fingerprint capture — Mehndi or wax on hands will result in disqualification.

  • Candidates must come prepared for more than one day stay under their own arrangements at the Recruitment Centre. No Travelling Allowance (TA) or Daily Allowance (DA) will be paid for the journey to and from the recruitment venue.
  • There shall be a mandatory induction training of at least three months for successful completion of probation as prescribed by the Central Government.
