What This Recruitment Is About

IBPS is hiring on a regular basis through direct recruitment by selection. All three posts share one selection process, an online examination followed by a personal interview at the IBPS office in Kandivali (East), Mumbai, after applications are scrutinised and documents are verified.

Unlike many large recruitment drives, this notification does not announce a vacancy number. It only says that candidates will be appointed against existing vacancies and that a wait list, valid for six months, will be kept for need-based requirements. Anyone planning to apply should treat the number of seats as undisclosed.

The posts are also not entry-level. Server Administrator asks for a B.E or B.Tech degree with 3 years of experience, and the two Grade B posts ask for 2 years of post-qualification experience, so this notification suits working professionals more than fresh graduates.

Three Things To Know Before You Apply

  • Mumbai is the only posting location. IBPS says no housing or accommodation facility will be provided, and primary preference will go to candidates already living in Mumbai. Candidates from outside the city are welcome only if they are fully committed to relocating permanently.
  • There is a service bond. Selected candidates must execute a bond of Rs. 1 lakh and serve for a minimum of 2 years, or pay Rs. 1 lakh to IBPS.
  • The roles ask for full commitment. The notification states that all three positions require full 24x7 commitment to the Institute.

Job Responsibilities

Server Administrator

  • Server administration: managing user accounts, file systems, file transfer, performance monitoring, high availability and virtualisation configuration.
  • Network administration: maintaining switches and firewalls, secure connectivity, troubleshooting and keeping uptime.
  • Backup administration: managing regular data backups and restoration as needed.
  • Email administration: user management in MS Exchange (AD integrated) and daily management of the anti-spam (ECM) and Advance Threat Protection (ATP) service.
  • Setting up, configuring and troubleshooting Linux OS, VLAN (L3) and firewall, including allow or deny access to selected applications, networks and devices and data traffic control.

IBPS clearly states that this role is specific to system administration (server, network and so on). It is not just performance or health monitoring, and it is not application software development, so only candidates with relevant experience should apply.

Assistant

  • Ensuring accuracy, validation and integrity of examination results before official publication.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of candidate data and following IBPS exam protocols and guidelines.
  • Documentation and record keeping, and archiving physical and digital records systematically.
  • Working under deadlines.

Programming Assistant

  • Handling the file system on a Unix platform, including creating and modifying files through the vi editor.
  • Processing data files through executable programs with various input parameters and generating output on a Linux platform.
  • Extracting data from multiple data files in a Unix environment and generating reports in MS-Excel format.
  • Transferring files between servers and operating systems, and handling data using Excel.
  • Basic programming in FORTRAN or Python, and any other work assigned by the Institute.

The responsibilities listed are only indicative and not exhaustive, and the Institute may assign other roles or KRAs from time to time.

Selection Process

Applications are first scrutinised against the minimum eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates are then called for verification of documents, an online examination and a personal interview, all conducted at IBPS House, 90 Ft DP Road, Behind Thakur Polytechnic, Off. W E Highway, Kandivali (East), Mumbai 400101.

How Shortlisting Works

  • Meeting the minimum qualification and experience does not by itself guarantee a call. IBPS may restrict the number of candidates called if registrations are large, taking qualification and experience above the minimum into account.
  • Preference will be given to candidates staying in Mumbai.
  • IBPS reserves the right to relax or modify the educational qualification and experience criteria for a deserving and suitable candidate, and also to raise them to limit the number of candidates called.
  • Each candidate must score the minimum in every test and also secure a sufficiently high overall score. Cut-offs are decided by IBPS depending on the number of vacancies.

Interview, Merit and Joining

  • Candidates who clear the online examination appear for the personal interview on the same day, or the next day depending on the response received.
  • Selection is made by a committee and is final. Only provisionally selected candidates will be informed, by email or letter, at a later date.
  • Selected candidates serve a probation of one year from the date of joining.
  • A medical fitness certificate from a civil surgeon or a doctor empanelled with LIC of India or PSBs, and police verification, must be submitted at the time of joining.

Candidates attend the selection process at their own cost and risk. IBPS will not reimburse travel or boarding, and if the process runs into a second day, lodging is also the candidate's own arrangement.

Exam Pattern

The online examination is conducted only at IBPS, Mumbai. It is in English, of 100 questions and 100 marks, with a composite time of 90 minutes for every post. IBPS reserves the right to modify the structure of the examination.
