Candidates should consult the official advertisement for the exact category definitions and suitability conditions.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be Indian nationals and hold a four-year B.E., B.Tech. or B.Sc. Engineering degree in the relevant discipline from an AICTE-approved college. The required class of degree depends on the candidate's category:

  • UR, OBC (NCL) and EWS: First class.
  • SC, ST and PwBD: Pass class.

First class in AMIE, AMIETE or GIETE in the specified disciplines is also accepted. BEL says it will not consider other equivalent disciplines or dual specialisations. A mismatch between the degree certificate and the branch selected in the application may lead to the candidate not being called for interview.

If your marks are shown as CGPA or grades

If your university awards CGPA, GPI, SGPA or another grading format instead of a percentage, use the conversion formula issued by your institution. Shortlisted candidates must provide the conversion certificate at the interview. According to the notification, failure to produce it can lead to disqualification.

Other eligibility conditions

  • Applicants must be Indian nationals.
  • Appointment is subject to medical fitness under BEL's standards. The notification says candidates with colour blindness are not suitable for either post.
  • Employees of government departments, PSUs or autonomous bodies must submit a no-objection certificate (NOC) from their employer at the interview.
  • BEL Trainee, Project or Fixed Tenure Engineers must apply as external candidates and inform their Unit or SBU HR before the interview.
  • Dependents and children of BEL employees must also apply as external candidates.
  • Internal candidates are covered by a separate internal advertisement dated 28 October 2026.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The age cut-off date is 1 October 2026. The maximum age for Unreserved and EWS candidates is 25 years, with relaxations for eligible categories.

Category Age relaxation Maximum age
General / EWS None 25 years
OBC (NCL) 3 years 28 years
SC / ST 5 years 30 years
PwBD 10 years 35 years
PwBD with OBC (NCL) 13 years 38 years
PwBD with SC / ST 15 years 40 years
Ex-Servicemen 5 years, subject to government guidelines As per government guidelines

For date-of-birth proof, BEL accepts a Matriculation or Higher Secondary certificate issued by a Board of Secondary Education that shows the date of birth. If the date is not printed on that certificate, the notification says a birth certificate from the competent authority may be considered.

Certificates for Reservation Benefits

Applicants seeking reservation or age relaxation should check the required certificate format and issue date before submitting the form.

EWS certificate

  • The Income and Asset Certificate must be based on income for FY 2025–2026 and issued on or after 1 April 2026.
  • The photograph on the certificate must be pasted, signed and stamped by the issuing authority.

OBC (NCL) certificate

  • The caste must appear in the Central List of OBCs for the relevant state.
  • The certificate must be issued on or after 1 October 2025, use the prescribed format and show the issue date and caste name exactly as listed.
  • Candidates in the creamy layer cannot claim OBC (NCL) benefits and must apply as Unreserved.

SC and ST certificates

  • The caste or tribe must appear in the applicable Central List of SCs or STs.
  • The certificate must show the issue date and caste or tribe name in the latest prescribed Government of India format.

PwBD and Ex-Servicemen documents

  • PwBD candidates need a disability level of at least 40% and a certificate in the prescribed format for their disability category.
  • The notification says disabilities classified as temporary and likely to improve are not eligible for reservation; progressive, non-progressive or not-likely-to-improve conditions are treated as eligible.
  • Ex-Servicemen must submit Annexure-3 in the prescribed format, signed by the competent authority, to claim the applicable relaxation.

Application Fee

Category Fee stated in the notification
General / UR and OBC (NCL) ₹1,000 plus GST (₹1,180)
EWS The notification contains conflicting information; confirm on the official application portal before payment.
SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen No fee, according to the fee table

Payment is made online through the SBI e-Pay Lite gateway. The listed payment methods include debit card, credit card, net banking, wallets and UPI. The notification states that fees are non-refundable and cannot be carried over to another recruitment.

Important fee clarification: The supplied notification text is inconsistent about EWS candidates. One section says they must pay ₹1,000 plus GST, while another lists EWS among fee-exempt categories. Before making a payment, check the latest official notice and the amount displayed for your category on the application portal. Do not rely on an assumption here.

Selection Process

Selection consists of a computer-based test followed by an interview. Candidates whose applications are accepted and who meet the eligibility requirements may be shortlisted for the test. Based on test performance, BEL plans to shortlist candidates for interview in a 1:5 ratio, separately by discipline and category.

The final selection carries 85 marks for the computer-based test and 15 marks for the interview. Minimum qualifying marks are 35% for General, OBC and EWS candidates and 30% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. These minimums apply separately to the test and interview.

BEL says it will not send test call letters by post or email. Candidates must log in to the BEL website, download their call letter and print it. Interview-shortlist information and final results will be published on the website; separate messages about non-selection will not be sent. Candidates may answer the test and interview in English or Hindi.

Computer-Based Test Pattern

Test detail Information
Duration 120 minutes
Total questions 125
Technical questions 100
General Aptitude and Reasoning 25 questions
Marks per question 1
Negative marking One-quarter mark for each incorrect answer
Unattempted / marked for review No marks
Language English and Hindi; the English version prevails if there is a discrepancy
Tentative test date 22 December 2026

The supplied notification does not provide a topic-by-topic syllabus. It says the technical section will draw mainly on core engineering subjects from the candidate's discipline, along with General Aptitude and Reasoning. Electronics and Mechanical applicants should therefore prepare according to their respective engineering curriculum. Since wrong answers carry a penalty, account for negative marking when deciding whether to attempt a question.

Exam Centres and Travel Allowance

The notification lists test cities in several states and union territories. Examples include Delhi/NCR, Lucknow, Meerut, Patna, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai MMR, Chennai and Kolkata. Candidates must select five preferred centres near their correspondence address. Allocation depends on availability, and BEL may change the centre, city or state if necessary. Requests to change an allotted centre will not be accepted; the list is tentative and not exhaustive.

Travel expenses for the computer-based test will not be reimbursed. Candidates called for an interview from outside the interview city may claim AC Chair Car or III Tier AC return train fare by the shortest route, according to the notification.

Posting Locations

Selected engineers may be assigned to Production or Support Services departments at BEL units and offices in the following locations:

  • Bengaluru, Karnataka
  • Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh
  • Pune, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra
  • Hyderabad and Ibrahimpatnam, Telangana
  • Chennai, Tamil Nadu
  • Palasamudram, Nimmaluru and Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh
  • Panchkula, Haryana
  • Kotdwara, Uttarakhand

BEL reserves the right to post selected candidates anywhere in India or transfer them between sections, departments, divisions or units, as permitted by the notification.

Pay Scale, Benefits and Service Agreement

Both posts fall under the E-II grade, with a pay scale of ₹40,000–3%–₹1,40,000 and an approximate annual CTC of ₹13 lakh. The notification says the scale is due for revision from 1 January 2027. Other benefits include DA, HRA, conveyance allowance, Performance Related Pay, medical reimbursement and other admissible perquisites.

There is also a service commitment to consider before applying. Selected candidates must complete six months of orientation or on-the-job training and sign an agreement to serve BEL for two years. The stated amount payable for breach of the agreement is ₹2,00,000. Read the service-agreement clause in the official notification before accepting the post.

How to Apply Online

The process has two stages: registration, followed by the application form and payment where applicable. BEL says applicants do not need to send a printed form or documents to its office by post or in person.

  1. Read the full advertisement on the official BEL website and check your age, degree discipline and class of marks.
  2. Keep a personal email address and mobile number active, along with a recent passport-size colour photograph and scanned signature.
  3. Start Step I registration on the application portal and enter your personal and contact details. Select the option to generate OTPs.
  4. Enter the separate OTPs sent to your mobile and email. Accept the declaration, select Re-verify and submit the registration.
  5. Save the Application Sequence Number (User ID) and password sent to your registered contact details, then select Go to Application.
  6. Complete the personal, additional, communication and qualification sections in Step II. Upload the photograph and signature and complete the declaration.
  7. Use the Preview tab to check every entry before final submission. The notification says the submitted form cannot be edited.
  8. Pay the applicable fee through SBI e-Pay Lite. Because the notification has conflicting information about the EWS fee, verify your category's amount before paying.
  9. Save or print the submitted application PDF and payment acknowledgement for your records. Do not send a hard copy to BEL.

Photograph and signature requirements

  • Photograph: A recent passport-size photo on a white background, not older than three months, in JPG/JPEG format, 100–200 KB, scanned at 200 dpi and measuring 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm. Caps, hats and dark glasses are not allowed. Religious headwear is permitted if the face remains visible. Use the same photograph throughout the process.
  • Signature: Sign in black ink on white paper. Scan only the signature area, not the whole page. The file must be JPG/JPEG and 80–150 KB.

Before submitting the form

  • You cannot change the category after entering it in the application.
  • A submitted application cannot be edited or withdrawn.
  • Submit only one application for the post. If multiple applications are submitted, BEL says it will consider the one with the higher Application Sequence Number; fees paid against another number will not be adjusted.
  • Registration alone does not establish eligibility. Original documents will be checked during verification.
  • Incorrect information or concealed facts can result in cancellation of candidature or termination of appointment.
  • Canvassing, directly or indirectly, leads to disqualification.
