Vacancy Details

This is a single-post recruitment. The Hindi version of the notice describes it as additional posts of Assistant. Category-wise breakup is below.

Post Code Post UR SC ST Total PwBD (Horizontal)
ND0401 Assistant 164 33 18 215 01 (VI)

Points on the PwBD Post

  • Applicants of any category (UR, SC, ST, OBC or EWS) can apply against the PwBD vacancy.
  • The post is meant for a PwBD candidate of the respective category, and the reservation is for Visual Impairment including blindness and low vision.
  • If it stays unfilled for any reason, one UR vacancy will be kept vacant.

Who Can Apply

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree from any recognized institute or university.
  • Two years of experience as Junior Assistant or an equivalent post in a university, research establishment, Central or State Government, PSU or autonomous body. Equivalent pay package in a reputed private company or corporate bank with annual turnover of at least Rs. 200 crore also counts.
  • English typing speed of 35 wpm or Hindi typing speed of 30 wpm.
  • Proficiency in computer operations.

Qualification and experience are checked as on the closing date of application. Because scrutiny may not happen at the time of the exam, applications are accepted provisionally, and a candidature can be cancelled at any later stage if a claim is not backed up.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The upper age limit is 32 years, determined as on the closing date of the advertisement. Relaxation works in these ways:

  • SC, ST, OBC (Central List), persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen and other specified categories get relaxation as per Central Government orders adopted by the University.
  • Applicants with at least three years of regular service in the same or allied field in government departments, statutory or autonomous bodies, universities, affiliated or constituent colleges, or PSUs get up to five years or the completed years of service, whichever is less.
  • The upper age limit is not insisted upon for departmental candidates of the University and its colleges.
  • A one-time exemption applies to those already working on contract, daily wages or ad hoc basis directly with the University or its colleges, provided they have at least one year of service. Project-based or outsourced-agency staff are not covered.

Documents for age relaxation must be submitted again at the written examination, skill test or document verification stage, even if sent earlier. SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and PwBD candidates who apply as General category lose age relaxation and cut-off relaxation. Reserved-category candidates who become eligible only through age relaxation are considered for reserved seats of their own category.

Application Fee

Category Fee
General / Unreserved Rs. 1,000
OBC (NCL), EWS, Female Rs. 800
SC, ST, PwBD Rs. 600

Candidates who applied for the Assistant post under Advt. No. R&P/311/2024 dated 12.12.2024 do not need to pay the fee. Fees once paid are not refunded, and incomplete applications or those without the requisite fee are rejected.

How the Selection Works

Recruitment runs in two stages. The first stage only trims the applicant pool, and the final merit is built from the Main Examination alone, with the Skill Test acting as a pass-or-fail hurdle. All papers are bilingual in English and Hindi, but the same language must be used throughout.

Stage 1: Preliminary Test

Detail Information
Type MCQ based
Questions and Marks 100 questions, 200 marks (2 marks each)
Duration 2 hours 30 minutes
Negative Marking 0.5 mark for each wrong answer
Weightage Only for shortlisting, none in final assessment

The cut-off is 50 percent of the average score of the top 5 percent of candidates who appeared. If the top 5 percent is fewer than two candidates, the average of the top two is used. SC and ST candidates get a 5 percent relaxation and PwBD candidates get 10 percent. Visually impaired, cerebral palsy or similarly placed PwBD candidates receive 20 extra minutes per hour.

For shortlisting, 30 applications are taken for the first post and 15 more for each remaining post. Applying that rule to 215 posts gives 3,240 candidates for the Main Examination. This figure is our own calculation from the stated formula and is not printed in the notice. Candidates scoring equal to the cut-off are also shortlisted.

Stage 2: Main Examination

The Main Examination is descriptive, carries 200 marks and lasts 2 hours, with the same extra-time provision for eligible PwBD candidates. The merit list is drawn on this paper.

Skill Test

The Skill Test is of 100 marks and is qualifying only, with 50 marks needed to pass. It covers the manual of office procedures, noting and drafting, computer operations, and typing at 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi. Only those who appear in the Main Examination can sit for it, and merit is drawn only for candidates who appeared in both components.

Syllabus

Preliminary Test

Section Questions Topics
General Studies 20 General science, current events of national and international importance, history of India, Indian National Movement, Constitution, polity, economy and geography
Reasoning 20 Reasoning, analytical abilities, decision making, data analysis and interpretation
General Mathematical Ability 20 Mathematical calculations, statistical analysis and commercial mathematics of Secondary and Higher Secondary level
Administration of Higher Educational Institutions 40 Rules and policies of higher educational institutions in India, nodal agencies, financial and administrative functioning, and the Act, Statutes and Ordinances of the University of Delhi

Main Examination

  • Educational Administration and Management: the higher education system in India, its regulatory bodies and recent developments, financial administration including budget formulation and execution, and use of ICT and modern technologies in the university system.
  • Functional Aspects of Rules: Fundamental Rules, Supplementary Rules, General Financial Rules, procurement through GeM, pension and grievance handling.

The syllabus leans heavily on university administration, since 40 of the 100 preliminary questions come from that one area. Candidates should prepare with that in mind.

Extra Marks for Contract and Ad Hoc Staff

Employees working on contract, ad hoc or temporary basis in the University and its colleges as on 25.03.2021 get one additional mark for each year of service, up to 10 marks. The marks are added in the preliminary test for shortlisting, if it is conducted, and again to the Main Examination score for the final merit list.

Certificates and Rules to Note

  • OBC (NCL): A valid caste certificate in the DoP&T format is needed, issued from 01.04.2026, showing the applicant is not in the Creamy Layer. The sub-caste must match the Central List, otherwise the candidate is treated as General. The certificate must be digitally verifiable.
  • EWS: An Income and Assets certificate issued by the competent authority on or before the last date, and not earlier than 01.04.2026, is required. Without it the candidate is treated as General.
  • PwBD: Disability must be at least 40 percent, with a valid Disability Certificate uploaded along with the application.
  • Serving employees: Those employed with a State or Central Government body or PSU must submit a No Objection Certificate at document verification or when asked. Failure leads to cancellation of candidature.
  • Marks relaxation: Where a minimum percentage is prescribed for the qualifying degree, SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and PwBD applicants get a further 5 percent relaxation.
  • Conduct: Canvassing in any form is a disqualification, and false or suppressed information can end a candidature even after selection.
  • Other conditions: No TA or DA is paid for attending the written test or skill test. The University may change the number or category of posts, may offer a lower level or a contract or deputation basis, and may choose not to fill some or all posts. Disputes fall under Delhi Courts only.
