UPTET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Paper I (Class 1 to 5 — Primary Level)
Candidates must have one of the following qualifications to apply for UPTET 2026 Paper I:
- Graduation from a UGC-recognized university AND final year or pass of 2-year D.El.Ed (BTC) from an NCTE-recognized institution affiliated with UP Government.
- Graduation AND 2-year D.El.Ed (BTC) through Distance Education mode (for untrained/graduate Shiksha Mitras).
- Graduation AND 2-year Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) or D.Ed. Special Education from an NCTE / RCI recognized institution.
- Graduation AND final year or pass of special BTC training recognized by NCTE and run in Uttar Pradesh.
- Graduation AND 2-year BTC Urdu Special Training run in Uttar Pradesh.
- Graduation from a UGC-recognized university AND Diploma in Teaching from Aligarh Muslim University (before 11 August 1997).
- Minimum 50% marks in Intermediate / 10+2 (or equivalent) AND final year or pass of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
Eligibility for Paper II (Class 6 to 8 — Upper Primary Level)
Candidates must have one of the following qualifications to apply for UPTET 2026 Paper II:
- Graduation from a UGC-recognized university AND 2-year D.El.Ed (BTC) from an NCTE-recognized institution.
- Minimum 50% marks in Graduation or Post-Graduation AND B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognized institution.
- Minimum 45% marks in Graduation or Post-Graduation AND B.Ed. obtained as per NCTE norms issued from time to time.
- Minimum 50% marks in Graduation or Post-Graduation AND B.Ed. Special Education from an NCTE / RCI recognized institution.
- Minimum 50% marks in Intermediate AND final year or pass of 4-year B.Ed. / B.A.B.Ed. / B.Sc.B.Ed. from an NCTE / UGC recognized institution.
- Minimum 50% marks in Intermediate AND 4-year B.Sc.Ed. / B.Sc.B.Ed. from an NCTE / UGC recognized institution.
- Minimum 50% marks in Intermediate AND 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
- Graduation with minimum 50% marks AND 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education) from an RCI-recognized institution.
Important Note: Relaxation in minimum qualifying marks is available for reserved category candidates as per UP Government reservation rules. Candidates in the final year of their D.El.Ed or B.Ed course are also eligible to apply provisionally. Their UPTET certificate will be valid only after they pass the qualifying degree exam.

UPTET 2026 Syllabus Overview
Paper I Syllabus (Primary Level)
- Child Development and Teaching Methods: Child development stages, learning theories (Thorndike, Pavlov, Skinner, Kohlberg, Piaget, Vygotsky), teaching methods, inclusive education, guidance and counselling.
- Hindi Language: Unseen passage, Hindi varnamala, sentence construction, punctuation, synonyms, antonyms, sandhi, samas, idioms, literary works and authors.
- Language II (English / Urdu / Sanskrit): English — Unseen passage, parts of speech, tenses, active-passive voice, comprehension. Urdu — Unseen passage, literary forms (ghazal, nazm, masnavi), grammar. Sanskrit — Nouns, verbs, sandhi, samas, etc.
- Mathematics: Number system, LCM and HCF, fractions, decimals, profit-loss, simple interest, geometry, measurement, data representation, volume, area.
- Environmental Studies: Family, food, shelter, plants and animals, our environment, transport, India — rivers, mountains, constitution, governance, local government, voting, national unity.
Paper II Syllabus (Upper Primary Level)
- Child Development and Teaching Methods: Same as Paper I with additional focus on upper primary learning strategies, socialization, critical thinking, and motivation.
- Hindi Language: Nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, voices (vachya), sandhi, samas, alankar, sentence formation, idioms and proverbs.
- Language II (English / Urdu / Sanskrit): English — Unseen passage, all major grammar topics, narration, active-passive, antonyms and synonyms, phrasal verbs, homophones. Sanskrit and Urdu topics as per Paper I with additions at upper primary level.
- Mathematics and Science (for relevant teachers): Natural numbers, integers, algebraic expressions, equations, geometry, statistics, probability, coordinate geometry, mensuration; Science — Fiber to fabric, living and non-living things, microorganisms, food, nutrition, electricity, magnetism, motion, energy, light, sound, water, environmental awareness, chemical changes.
- Social Studies (for relevant teachers): History (Stone Age to modern India, Independence), Civics (Constitution, governance, local self-government, democracy, national security), Geography (Earth, maps, India — rivers, mountains, climate, resources, UP), Environmental Studies, Home Science, Physical Education, Music, Horticulture, Fruit Preservation.

UPTET 2026 Certificate Validity
The UPTET 2026 certificate will be valid for lifetime (lifelong) from the date of result declaration. This is applicable for all categories as per UP Government order No. 392/Arsat-4-2021-9(16)/Basic Education Department dated 16 June 2021. The certificate will be distributed through DigiLocker (digital medium) only.
Applicability — Where Is UPTET Certificate Valid?
Primary Level (Class 1 to 5)
- Schools run by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh.
- Schools under Local Bodies that have received recognition or affiliation from the State Government / Basic Shiksha Parishad from time to time.
- Schools receiving aid from the State Government.
- Schools affiliated with any National Education Board and having a No Objection Certificate from the State Government.
Upper Primary Level (Class 6 to 8)
- Schools run by the State Government.
- Schools under Local Bodies that have received recognition from State Government / Basic Shiksha Parishad / Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad.
- Schools receiving aid from the State Government.
- Schools that have received No Objection Certificate from the State Government and are affiliated with any National Board.
How to Apply for UPTET 2026 Online Form
- Visit the official UPESSC website at www.upessc.up.gov.in.
- Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) process. OTR is mandatory for all candidates before they can apply for any exam on the portal.
- After OTR, log in to your account and click on the UPTET 2026 application link.
- Select the paper(s) you want to appear in — Paper I (Class 1-5), Paper II (Class 6-8), or both — based on your eligibility.
- Fill in all required personal, educational, and other details carefully and accurately in the online form.
- Upload your photograph and signature in the prescribed format as mentioned in the official notification.
- Pay the application fee online through SBI or ICICI Bank payment gateway as per your category.
- Submit the application form before 26 April 2026. Save and print the confirmation page for future reference.
Important: Application forms sent through any other medium will not be accepted. After the final submission date, no changes will be allowed in the application. Candidates must verify all details before submitting.
Key Rules for UPTET 2026 Candidates
- Only online applications through the official UPESSC portal will be accepted. No offline or postal applications are allowed.
- Date of birth mentioned in High School (Class 10) marksheet will be treated as the official date of birth. No other document will be accepted for this purpose.
- Reserved category benefits are available only to domicile residents of Uttar Pradesh. No out-of-state reservation claim will be entertained.
- Candidates must verify their eligibility themselves before applying. UPESSC does not offer personal eligibility guidance to individual candidates.
- If false or incorrect information is found at any stage, the candidature will be cancelled without any prior notice.
- Candidates using unfair means or indulging in misconduct during the exam will be debarred from UPTET and future UPESSC examinations.
- Men who have more than one living wife and women who have married a man with a living wife are not eligible to apply (unless exempted by the Governor).
- Divyang candidates with at least 40% disability can claim reservation benefits. Those who are completely visually impaired or physically unable to write can bring a scribe of their own arrangement.
- If the number of applicants is very high and a single day / single shift exam is not practical, the exam may be held in multiple shifts / days. In such cases, score normalization will be applied.
