The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained testing organisation established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. NTA conducts efficient, transparent, and international standard tests to assess the competency of candidates for admission to premier higher education institutions. NTA has been entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to conduct UGC-NET.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body constituted under the UGC Act, 1956, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. UGC is responsible for providing funds, coordination, determination, and maintenance of standards in higher education institutions across India.
Purpose of UGC NET
UGC NET determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for the following three categories:
- Category 1: Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor – eligible for JRF, Assistant Professor, and Ph.D. admission.
- Category 2: Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. – eligible for Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admission but NOT for JRF.
- Category 3: Admission to Ph.D. only – eligible for Ph.D. admission only, NOT for JRF or Assistant Professor.
For Ph.D. admission under Category 2 and Category 3, NET marks carry 70% weightage and performance in the interview/viva voce carries 30% weightage. NET marks for Ph.D. admission are valid for one year from the date of result declaration.
UGC NET June 2026 – Exam Pattern
UGC NET June 2026 will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The exam consists of two papers conducted in a single session of 3 hours (180 minutes) with no break between the papers.

Marking Scheme
- Each question carries 2 marks.
- For every correct answer, the candidate gets +2 marks.
- No negative marking for incorrect or unattempted answers.
- Questions marked for review with an answer will be considered for evaluation.
- If more than one option is found correct, 2 marks are awarded to all who marked any correct option.
Medium of Question Paper
- Question paper will be in English and Hindi only, except for language papers.
- The choice of medium must be selected carefully while filling the application form; it cannot be changed later.
- In case of any ambiguity in translation, the English version shall be treated as final.

- Master's Degree or equivalent must be from a UGC-recognized university in Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Electronic Science, or related fields.
- Candidates in the final year of their Master's programme can apply provisionally. They must complete their degree within two years of the NET result (for JRF and Assistant Professor) or within one year (for Ph.D. admission only).
- Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree with a minimum of 75% marks (70% for reserved categories) are eligible for JRF and Ph.D. admission but NOT for appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Ph.D. degree holders whose Master's level exam was completed by 19 September 1991 are eligible for a relaxation of 5% (from 55% to 50%).
- Candidates with foreign qualifications should obtain equivalence from UGC before applying.

UGC NET June 2026 – Syllabus and Subjects
UGC NET June 2026 covers 85 subjects. Syllabi for all subjects can be downloaded from the UGC website at UGC NET Syllabus. NTA will not provide a copy of the syllabus to individual candidates.

Paper I – General Paper (Compulsory for All)
Paper I tests teaching and research aptitude of the candidate. It includes topics such as reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.
UGC NET June 2026 – Admit Card
- Admit Card will be available for download by 15 June 2026 from ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
- Admit Card will NOT be sent by post or email.
- Candidates must download and print the admit card and bring it to the exam centre.

- No duplicate admit card will be issued at the examination centre.

UGC NET June 2026 – Result and Cut Off
Result Criteria
- Candidates must appear in both Paper I and Paper II to be considered for the result.
- Minimum aggregate marks required: 40% for General/Gen-EWS candidates; 35% for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD/PwBD, and Third gender candidates.
- The number of candidates qualified for Assistant Professor eligibility will be 6% of the total candidates appeared in NET.
- Result will be declared in percentile along with marks (or normalized marks in case of multi-shift exams).
- No re-evaluation or re-checking of results will be done.
- Results will be hosted at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
Answer Key Challenge
- Provisional Answer Keys will be displayed on the NTA website after the exam for 2-3 days.
- Candidates can challenge the answer key by paying Rs. 200 per question challenged (non-refundable).
- After expert review, a final answer key will be displayed and the result will be compiled based on this final key.
How to Apply for UGC NET June 2026
Candidates must apply online only through the official website. No other mode of application will be accepted. Follow the steps below:
- Visit the official website: Go to ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
- Register Online (Step 1): Apply for online registration using your own email ID and mobile number. You can use the MeriPehchaan (National Single Sign-On) platform for quick registration.
- Fill Application Form (Step 2): Log in and fill the complete online application form. Enter your name, date of birth, educational qualification, category, preferred exam cities (4 choices), UGC NET subject code, and other required details. Note down the system-generated application number.
- Upload Documents: Upload your live photograph (captured via camera or webcam). Also upload a scanned recent photograph (10KB-200KB), signature (10KB-50KB). PwD/PwBD candidates must upload their Disability Certificate/UDID (50KB-300KB) in PDF format.
- Pay Application Fee (Step 3): Pay the applicable fee using SBI, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Debit Card, Credit Card, or UPI. Keep proof of payment for future reference.
- Download Confirmation Page: After successful fee payment, download and print at least four copies of the confirmation page. This will be generated only after successful payment.
- Keep Documents Safe: Retain the confirmation page, proof of fee paid, and passport-size photographs (same as uploaded) for future use.

Important Instructions
- Only one application per candidate. Multiple applications for the same subject will be rejected.
