The post sits in Level 8 of the Pay Matrix, which runs from Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100. The initial basic pay is Rs. 47,600, plus allowances as admissible under the Rules.
The Registry has also kept the right to cancel, restrict, enlarge, modify or alter the selection process without issuing any notice, so candidates should keep checking the official website through the recruitment cycle.

Selection Process in Four Stages
Admission to every stage is provisional until documents are verified. The four tests are the Objective Type Test, the Shorthand (English) Test, the Typing Speed Test on Computer and the Interview. Each has its own qualifying marks, so a strong score in one stage does not make up for missing the cut-off in another.
Scheme of Examination
| Test | Duration | Maximum Marks | Minimum Qualifying Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Objective Type Test (100 questions) | 1 1/2 hours | 100 | 50 |
| Shorthand (English) Test at 110 words per minute | 7 minutes dictation, 45 minutes transcription | 100 | 50 |
| Typing Speed Test on Computer (English, minimum 40 w.p.m.) | 10 minutes | 20 | 10 |
| Interview | Not specified | 30 | 15 |
Objective Type Test Pattern
The first test has 100 questions. There is no negative marking, which means an attempted question can only help the score. The paper is divided as follows:
| Subject Area | Questions |
|---|---|
| General English | 25 |
| General Knowledge | 25 |
| Provisions Relating to the Judiciary in the Constitution of India | 25 |
| Supreme Court Rules, 2013 | 15 |
| Knowledge of Computer Operation | 10 |
Two of the five sections are law-specific. The judiciary provisions and the Supreme Court Rules, 2013 together account for 40 of the 100 questions, so preparing only general English and general knowledge would leave a large part of the paper uncovered.
Shorthand Test Rules
Candidates get 7 minutes of dictation at 110 words per minute and 45 minutes to transcribe. Mistakes up to 5 percent of the total words dictated are permitted, and marks fall in steps as errors rise:
| Mistakes | Marks Awarded |
|---|---|
| No mistake | 100 percent |
| Up to 1 percent | 90 percent |
| Up to 2 percent | 80 percent |
| Up to 3 percent | 70 percent |
| Up to 4 percent | 60 percent |
| Up to 5 percent | 50 percent |
A mistake of full stop is counted as half a mistake. Typing a capital letter for a small letter, or the other way round, is also counted as half a mistake.
Typing Test Rules
The typing test is on a computer, in English, for 10 minutes at a minimum speed of 40 w.p.m. Permissible mistakes are 3 percent of the total words typed. An error in a word or figure is a full mistake. It is a half mistake when a capital letter is typed for a small letter or the reverse, and where a punctuation mark is omitted, added or replaced by another.
How Candidates Are Shortlisted
If a large number of candidates score 50 marks or more in the Objective Type Test, the merit list will be used to shortlist candidates in the ratio of 1:10 against the number of tentative vacancies for the shorthand and typing tests. Candidates who qualify in all three tests will then be called for interview in the ratio of 1:3 against the tentative vacancies.
On the tentative figure of 65 vacancies, these ratios would work out to roughly 650 candidates for the second stage and 195 for the interview. This is only a rough calculation and will change if the number of vacancies changes.
Answer Key and Objections
Answer keys will be uploaded on 8 December 2026. Objections can be sent online only, tentatively from 8 December 2026 to 9 December 2026 till 11.55 p.m. A fee of Rs. 100 per objection is charged and is refunded if the objection is found valid. The competent authority's decision on objections is final.
Test Centres and Where the Later Stages Happen
The Objective Type Test will be held in the cities listed in Annexure A of the notice, which names 69 test centres across 23 states and union territories. Candidates must choose cities in order of preference. The Registry can shift a candidate to a different city for administrative reasons, can change the number of centres and will not entertain requests to change the city or test centre.
The Shorthand (English) Test and the Typing Speed Test on Computer will be held in Delhi/NCR. The interview will be either online or in person in Delhi, as directed by the competent authority.
