Pay Scale and Benefits

  • Head Constable (GD): Level 4, Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 as per the 7th CPC pay matrix
  • Constable (GD): Level 3, Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100 as per the 7th CPC pay matrix

Dearness Allowance, HRA and other allowances admissible in CRPF from time to time also apply. Selected candidates come under the New Defined Contributory Pension Scheme introduced by the Government of India in 2004. The posts are temporary but likely to be made permanent, and they carry all-India service liability, including service abroad. Appointees are governed by the CRPF Act 1949 and Rules 1955.

Who Can Apply

The age and education rules are simple. The sports qualification is where most candidates need to read carefully, because the level of competition required is different for each rank.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The age range is 18 to 23 years as on 1 August 2026, so candidates should be born between 2 August 2003 and 1 August 2008. Paragraph 5 of the notice prints the dates as 2 January 2003 and 1 January 2008, which does not match the 1 August cut-off, so confirm the exact birth-date range on the official notification. Date of birth and name are taken only from the Matriculation or equivalent certificate, and no later change is allowed.

Category Relaxation for Meritorious Sportspersons
Unreserved 5 years
OBC (NCL) 5 + 3 = 8 years
SC or ST 5 + 5 = 10 years
Ex-Servicemen (UR) 5 + 3 = 8 years, after deducting military service from actual age
Ex-Servicemen (OBC) 5 + 3 + 3 = 11 years, after deducting military service from actual age
Ex-Servicemen (SC or ST) 5 + 5 + 3 = 13 years, after deducting military service from actual age

The cut-off for claiming SC, ST, OBC or EWS status is the closing date, 11 November 2026. OBC candidates must also be outside the creamy layer on that date. Departmental candidates with three years of continuous service get up to 5 years of relaxation, with extra years for SC, ST and OBC (NCL) candidates who compete with open recruitment candidates.

Educational Qualification

  • Head Constable (GD): 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board or university, or the equivalent Army qualification for ex-Army personnel
  • Constable (GD): Matriculation or equivalent from a recognised board

You must already hold the qualification on 11 November 2026. Candidates who are still appearing in an exam or waiting for results are told not to apply. Certificates from boards other than a Central or State Board need a Government notification proving equivalence for Central Government service.

Sports Qualification for Head Constable (GD)

  • Represented India in a recognised international competition, with clearance from the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports
  • Represented a State or UT in a National Games or Championship run by a recognised National Sports Federation or the Indian Olympic Association, with a medal or a position up to 3rd place
  • Secured first or second position in an individual event at Inter University Tournaments, or reached the final in a team event, as conducted by the Association of Indian Universities or the Inter University Sports Board
  • Won a Gold or Silver medal in an individual or team event at a Junior National level Games, Championship or Meet organised by a recognised National Sports Federation

Sports Qualification for Constable (GD)

  • Represented a State in Senior or Junior National level Games or Championships organised by recognised National Sports Federations
  • Represented State Schools Teams in the National Games for Schools conducted by the School Games Federation of India, with a medal or a position up to 3rd place
  • Represented a State or UT in Khelo India University Games, Youth Games or Winter Games and won a medal or a position up to 3rd place
  • Represented a university in Inter University Tournaments conducted by the Inter University Sports Boards in any sport or game

The achievement must fall in the last two years. The notice counts the period from 30 September 2024 to 30 September 2026, treating 30 September 2026 as the publication date of the advertisement. Persons with disabilities are not eligible for this recruitment.

How Sports Achievements Turn Into Marks

This is the heart of the recruitment. The final merit list is built purely on marks for sports certificates, and only one highest medal or position is counted, even if you have several. If you won more than one medal in the same competition, only the highest of them is considered.

Competition Gold Silver Bronze Participation
Olympic Games (Summer or Winter) 100 96 92 80
World Championship or World Cup 90 86 82 70
Asian Games or Commonwealth Games 80 76 72 60
Asian Championship or Cup, Commonwealth Championship 70 66 62 50
Youth Olympic Games 60 56 52 40
Youth or Junior World Championship or World Cup 55 51 47 35
Youth or Junior Asian Championship, Youth or Junior Commonwealth Championship 50 46 42 30
SAF Games and other international competitions recognised by the Government of India (minimum 7 countries), backed by a National level medal 40 36 32 26
National Games and Senior National Championship (individual medal) 30 26 22 12
National Games and Senior National Championship (team event) 26 22 18 8
Youth or Junior National Championship, Inter University, National School Games, Khelo India (individual medal) 20 16 12 6
Youth or Junior National Championship, Inter University, National School Games, Khelo India (team event) 16 12 8 4

Order of Preference

The notice lists a preference order. First come candidates who represented India internationally with Sports Ministry clearance. Next are those who represented a State or UT in Senior or Junior National Championships or National Games and won a medal or position up to 3rd place, with Senior National medalists ahead of Junior. After them come university players in Inter University or Khelo India University Games finals, then State or UT players in Khelo India Youth Games (above 18 years) or Winter Games, and then State School players at the National School Games. Last in line are those who took part at these levels but did not win a medal. A tie is broken in favour of the candidate with a higher position or more than one medal.

The Board of Officers can also recommend an outstanding sportsperson who needs some relaxation in height, chest or weight for the demands of a particular sport, but only with approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Application Fee

The fee is Rs. 100 and it applies only to male candidates in the UR, OBC and EWS categories. Female candidates of every category, SC and ST candidates and ex-servicemen pay nothing. The payment has to be made through the CRPF recruitment website, and any other mode of payment leads to summary rejection. The fee is never refunded or carried over to another recruitment.

Selection Process

Online admit cards go to candidates whose applications are found in order. Admit cards are not sent by post and are downloaded from the CRPF website. The stages run in this order:

Identity Check and Biometrics

Every candidate goes through identity verification, including biometric capture, before documentation begins. The Aadhaar based biometric check can be repeated at any stage, so bring your original Aadhaar card.

Documentation

Originals of age, education, caste, sports, domicile and relaxation certificates are checked, along with what you uploaded online. Those who clear it submit self-attested copies on the spot and get the originals back. Candidates who cannot produce the prescribed originals are eliminated.

Physical Standard Test

Those who pass documentation take the PST. A candidate declared not qualified in height or chest can appeal on the same day to the appellate authority, whose decision is final. Women candidates give a self-declaration about pregnancy status. A candidate who declares herself pregnant is declared temporarily unfit and her appointment is held in abeyance until after confinement, with the vacancy kept reserved, and she is re-examined for PST six weeks after confinement subject to a medical fitness certificate.

Sports Trial Test

The Board of Officers conducts the trial in your own discipline. A candidate who fails the trial is not considered, but no marks are given for the trial itself. Candidates may be subjected to a dope test on the trial day, the trial is recorded on video and photographs, and an appeal for a re-trial will not be entertained.

Merit List

The merit list uses total marks from the sports achievement table, within the advertised discipline. If marks are tied, a candidate with higher achievement in national competition ranks above one with a similar international record, then the older candidate gets priority, and if a tie still remains, alphabetical order of the English name decides.

Detailed and Review Medical Examination

Candidates are called for the DME in order of merit against the number of vacancies. Those declared unfit can give written consent for a Review Medical Examination within 24 hours of being told, and the review is usually held on the next day.

Physical Standards

These standards apply on the day of the PST. Weight must be proportionate to height and age as per the weight charts in the notification.

Height

The general standard is 170 cm for male and 157 cm for female candidates. Relaxed standards are available to the following groups on production of the prescribed certificate at the time of PST.

Category Male (cm) Female (cm)
All Scheduled Tribe candidates 162.5 150.0
Scheduled Tribe candidates of North Eastern States 157.0 147.5
Scheduled Tribe candidates of Left Wing Extremism affected districts 160.0 147.5
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas, and candidates from Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh 165.0 155.0
Candidates from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura 162.5 152.5
Candidates from the Gorkha Territorial Administration area of Darjeeling district 157.0 152.5

Chest (Male Candidates)

Male candidates need an un-expanded chest of 80 cm with a minimum expansion of 5 cm. The relaxed un-expanded measurement is 76 cm for all Scheduled Tribe candidates, 78 cm for Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and 77 cm for candidates from the North Eastern States named above and the Gorkha Territorial Administration. The minimum expansion stays 5 cm in every case.

Medical Standards

  • Distant vision of 6/6 and 6/9 in the two eyes without spectacles or lenses
  • Colour blind persons are not eligible
  • No knock knee, flat foot, varicose veins or squint
  • Good mental and bodily health, free from any condition likely to interfere with duties, as per the MHA medical guidelines for CAPFs and Assam Rifles
  • Tattoos are allowed only if they depict religious symbols or figures or names, are on the left forearm (inner side) or back of the hands, and are smaller than one quarter of that body part

Shortlisted candidates fill a declaration about their medical history before the examination. A false declaration found later, even during service, can lead to disciplinary action including termination.
