Selection Process - SSB Head Constable Recruitment 2026
The selection process for SSB Head Constable Recruitment 2026 consists of the following stages:
Stage I: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST)
PET and PST will be conducted at SSB locations by the Board of Officers. Candidates failing PST will be rejected. Candidates who qualify PET will undergo PST.
Stage II: Written Examination (Computer Based Test)
(a) For Head Constable (Lab Assistant, Physiotherapy Assistant, Steward, Communication, Electrician, Veterinary):

Minimum Qualifying Marks (Written Exam):
- For General (UR), EWS, OBC and Ex-Servicemen: 50%
- For SC and ST: 45%
Stage III: Skill Test (Only for Head Constable Electrician)
Skill test will be conducted by Board of Officers/Officials detailed by FHQ SSB after completion of written examination. Call list will be prepared up to 20 times of the vacancies (category wise) for HC Electrician. The skill test will be of 50 marks and the minimum qualifying marks for all candidates including SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Ex-Servicemen will be 60%. Skill test is qualifying in nature and marks will not be included in the final merit list.
Stage IV: Documentation, Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and Review Medical Examination (RME)
After written examination (and Skill Test for HC Electrician), candidates numbering up to 3 times of the vacancies (category wise) will be shortlisted for Document Verification and Detailed Medical Examination. Being declared Fit in Medical Examination does not give any legal claim for appointment. Appointment is strictly on merit basis.
Final Selection
The final selection list will be prepared category wise on merit after completion of Review Medical Examination. In case of equal marks:
- Candidate with higher marks in Part-II (Technical Subject) will be ranked higher (for HC Physiotherapy Assistant and HC Lab Assistant only).
- If still equal, the candidate senior in age will be ranked higher.
- If date of birth is also same, priority will be given based on alphabetical order of names in English (dictionary pattern) for all three posts.
