Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • The candidate must hold a Law degree (LLB or equivalent) from a recognised university and must be an enrolled advocate.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in legal (advocate) practice is required for the post of Legal Director.
  • The candidate must have complete knowledge of the training curriculum related to the post and should be capable of providing legal training in the relevant subject.
  • Knowledge of Marathi, Hindi, and English languages is required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • As per Government Resolution, Home Department (SPP-2009/922/Pr.Kra.109/Pol-10 dated 18.06.2009), a person already in government service is not eligible.

Age Limit

  • As per Government Resolution, Home Department (SPP-2009/922/Pr.Kra.109/Pol-10 dated 18.06.2009), the age of the candidate at the time of appointment must not exceed 60 years.
  • Age will be calculated as on 04 May 2026 (last date to apply).

Contract Terms and Salary

  • The contract period is initially for 11 months. It may be extended by one period of 11 months if required, making the maximum total duration 33 months (3 appointments).
  • Monthly consolidated remuneration: Rs. 20,000/- plus telephone and travel allowance of Rs. 3,000/-, totalling Rs. 23,000/- per month.
  • No other allowances will be admissible beyond the above-stated amount.
  • Candidates appointed on contract will not be treated as government officials or employees.
  • The selected candidate cannot carry on any legal practice or related private work without written permission from the appointing authority. Violation will lead to cancellation of appointment.
  • No travel allowance (TA/DA) will be provided for attending the written or oral examination.

Selection Process

  • Written Examination carrying 50 marks
  • Oral/Interview examination carrying 25 marks
  • Final merit will be prepared based on combined marks of written and oral examinations.
  • Candidates who score a minimum of 60% marks in total will be considered for contract appointment.
  • After the written examination, candidates who score 20 marks or more will be called for interview.
  • The date and centre for the written examination will be communicated to candidates via email.

Duties of Legal Director

  • Impart training as per the prescribed training curriculum at the Police Training Centre.
  • Prepare question papers for competitive and written examinations held periodically at Police Training Schools, conduct examinations, evaluate answer sheets, and prepare results. Assist the Special Inspector General of Police (Training) and the Principal of Police Training School in all exam-related matters.
  • All other tasks related to police training as assigned from time to time.
