Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
The candidate must be an unmarried male and must be one of the following:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates from Nepal (other than Gorkha subjects) and categories above must have an Eligibility Certificate issued by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification
- Passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board with minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM)
- Must have appeared in JEE (Mains) 2026 - this is mandatory
- PCM percentage is calculated based on Class XII marks only
- Candidates must enter exact PCM percentage up to two decimal places - rounding off is not allowed
Marital Status
Only unmarried male candidates are eligible. Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete the full 4-year training. Marriage during training will result in discharge and recovery of training costs from the candidate.

Selection Process
The Indian Army TES-56 selection process follows these stages:
- Online Application - Submit application on joinindianarmy.nic.in
- Shortlisting - Based on JEE Mains 2026 Common Rank List (CRL). Cut-off tentatively in first week of July 2026
- SSB Interview - 5-day interview at Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), or Jalandhar (Punjab). Includes psychological test, Group Testing Officer assessment, and personal interview
- Medical Examination - At nearest Military Hospital for SSB-recommended candidates
- Merit List - Prepared on the basis of SSB marks only. NCC background, higher qualifications, etc. have no role
- Joining Letter - Issued to medically fit candidates as per vacancies and merit
Stage I candidates who fail are returned on the same day. Only Stage I cleared candidates proceed to Stage II. SSB dates are tentatively scheduled between August and September 2026.

Army Group Insurance (Life Insurance)
- Insurance cover of Rs. 30 Lakh on one-time non-refundable premium of Rs. 14,000 (covers first 3 years of training when stipend is not paid)
- After stipend starts, Gentleman Cadets are insured for Rs. 1.25 Crore at a monthly subscription of Rs. 12,500
- For disability due to invaliding by IMB: Rs. 25 Lakh for 100% disability, proportionately reduced to Rs. 5 Lakh for 20% disability
