Duties of a Canteen Attendant

Candidates should be aware of the actual nature of this role before applying. The duties include preparing tea, coffee, and juice for canteen users; serving refreshments in official meetings; providing room service to officers and staff; collecting used cups, plates, and utensils; cleaning crockery and utensils in a three-stage process involving hot detergent water and potassium permanganate solution; sweeping and washing floor areas; and cleaning tables, chairs, and other canteen furniture, along with any other duty assigned by the canteen in-charge.

Selection Process

Selection for Canteen Attendant is a three-stage process, and success at each stage does not guarantee appointment until the department is satisfied on all counts.

Stage 1: Scrutiny and Shortlisting

From all eligible applications received, 280 candidates, that is 40 eligible applications against each of the 7 vacancies, will be shortlisted for the written examination based on the percentage of marks obtained in Matriculation or an equivalent exam.

Stage 2: Objective Written Examination

The written examination is of 30 minutes duration (40 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe assistance) and consists of 40 multiple choice questions of 1 mark each, with 0.25 marks deducted for every incorrect answer. The subject-wise distribution is:

Questions are set at the Matriculation standard, in Hindi and English, with the English version prevailing in case of any discrepancy. The examination will be held only in Bhopal, and no request for a change of venue will be entertained. There is no provision for re-evaluation or rechecking of scores.

Stage 3: Skill Test

70 candidates, that is 10 eligible candidates against each vacancy, will be shortlisted from the written examination for the Skill Test, which will also be conducted in Bhopal. The Skill Test carries 60 marks and evaluates practical proficiency in duties relevant to the post, including preparation of beverages, basic food handling skills, preparation techniques, presentation, hygiene, and cleanliness.

Final Merit and Document Verification

The final merit list is prepared out of a combined score of 100, based on performance in the written examination and skill test, and 7 candidates will be selected strictly on merit against the category-wise vacancies. A waiting list will also be maintained. Document verification will be conducted after the final result is declared, and candidates must produce all original certificates mentioned in their application.

Scribe Assistance and Compensatory Time

The facility of a scribe is available for candidates with benchmark disabilities such as blindness or locomotor disability affecting both arms, along with 10 minutes of compensatory time in the written examination. Candidates with less than 40 percent disability who have difficulty writing can also avail this facility on production of a certificate from a Government Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon, or Medical Superintendent. This facility must be indicated in the online application form itself, as it cannot be claimed at a later stage.
