Eligibility Criteria
Essential Qualification
Candidates must hold an M.Sc. or a recognised equivalent qualification with a first division in Biosciences, Geology, Physics, Chemistry or an allied discipline in Earth Science, along with three years of research experience in a relevant field. Alternatively, a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline is also accepted.
Desirable Qualification
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in fields such as Palaeontology (Invertebrate or Vertebrate), Palaeobotany, Palaeogeography, Micropalaeontology, Palaeoceanography, Ancient DNA or metagenomics, Planetary Geosciences or Astrobiology, Geoarchaeology, Archaeobotany, Palaeoecology or Palaeoclimatology, Palynology, Geochemistry, and applied dendrochronology linking palaeoclimates with human and heritage studies. Experience in Artificial Intelligence and RS-GIS applications in palaeosciences or earth sciences, supported by publications in national or international journals, including post-doctoral research experience, will also be preferred.
Age Limit
Candidates must not be older than 35 years as on 4th September 2026, the crucial date fixed for determining age eligibility.

Pay Scale
The post of Scientist B carries Pay Level 10 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. Selected candidates will also be entitled to usual allowances admissible as per Institute rules, which follow the Government of India pattern, and will be covered under the New Pension Scheme.
Selection Process
All applications received within the due date will be reviewed by a Screening Committee. Only candidates recommended by the Screening Committee, after approval from the Competent Authority, will be called for a personal interview. Meeting the minimum advertised qualifications and experience does not automatically guarantee a call for interview, and the Institute's decision on shortlisting is final. Selected candidates will be appointed on probation for two years, and their continued service will depend on satisfactory completion of this probation period.
