India Meteorological Department (IMD), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, has released an official circular dated 13 June 2026 for engagement of Administrative Consultants and Scientific Consultants on a contractual basis. This latest recruitment is open exclusively for retired Central Government officers. Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • The applicant must not have attained the age of 63 years on the closing date of the application.
  • The applicant should be in good health for discharging official duties effectively.

Eligibility for Administrative Consultant

  • Must be a retired Central Government officer who retired at the level of Under Secretary / Section Officer or equivalent (Level-11).
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in general administration, establishment, procurement, GFR, e-office, GeM portal, or finance.
  • Good working knowledge of computers (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good communication skills and expertise in noting/drafting work.
  • No disciplinary proceedings should be pending against the applicant.

Eligibility for Scientific Consultant

  • Must be a retired Central Government officer from scientific/technical cadres who retired at Level-08 or above.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in the applied job profile at a pay level equivalent to or higher than the post applied for, prior to retirement.
  • Background in meteorological, atmospheric, climate, or allied domains.
  • No disciplinary proceedings should be pending against the applicant.

Nationality

The applicant must be a citizen of India and a retired Central Government servant.

Tenure of Engagement

  • Initial engagement period: 01 year or coterminous with the ACROSS scheme, whichever is earlier.
  • May be extended or curtailed based on IMD requirements and satisfactory performance.
  • Engagement will not be extended beyond 5 years after superannuation in any case.
  • The engagement is purely on contract basis and does not confer any right to regular appointment.

Remuneration and Terms

  • Remuneration: A fixed monthly amount arrived at by deducting basic pension from pay drawn at the time of retirement (as per DoE OM No. 3-25/2020-E.IIIA dated 09.12.2020). This amount remains fixed during the contract period with no increment or Dearness Allowance.
  • Transport Allowance: A fixed transport allowance is admissible for commuting, not exceeding the rate applicable at the time of retirement.
  • No HRA or any other allowance shall be admissible during the contract period.
  • Pension continues: Retired consultants can continue to draw their pension and Dearness Relief (DR) during the period of engagement. This engagement is not treated as regular re-employment.
  • TDS: Income Tax or any other tax will be deducted at source as per Government rules.
  • Paid Leave: 1.5 days per completed month of service. No accumulation beyond a calendar year.
  • Working Hours: Normal office hours. May be called on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays in case of work exigencies.

Place of Posting

Selected consultants shall be posted at Delhi, Pune, or anywhere in India as per office requirements of IMD.
