BTSC Scientific Assistant Online Form 2026

BTSC Scientific Assistant Online Form 2026 - 6 Posts

The BTSC Scientific Assistant online form 2026 is open for six regular posts at the Bihar Drug Control Laboratory, which works under the Health Department, Bihar. Applications are accepted from 25 September to 24 October 2026 under Advertisement No. 30/2026 issued by the Bihar Technical Service Commission, Patna. The recruitment is small, but two conditions deserve attention before you apply: a Chemistry or Pharmacy degree alone is not enough because one year of drug testing and analysis experience is also required, and up to 25 of the 100 selection marks go to lab experience gained on contract.

Vacancy Details

The notification gives a category-wise breakup of the six posts. These posts include the 35 percent horizontal reservation for women who are native residents of Bihar.

Category Posts
Unreserved 3
EWS 0
SC 1
ST 0
EBC 1
BC 1
Backward Class Women 0
Total 6

The table also has a second line that shows one Unreserved post under the women's reservation heading, and the figures for disability and for dependents of freedom fighters are zero in every sub-category. Please read that table in the original notification if you plan to claim a horizontal reservation. The notification adds that vacancies may increase or decrease if the department sends a revised requisition before the last date.

Eligibility Criteria

Only citizens of India can apply. The essential educational qualification has two parts, and you must satisfy both:

  • A B.Sc. (Chemistry) or B.Pharm degree from a recognised university.
  • One year of experience in testing and analysis of drugs.

The notification makes clear that the drug testing experience requirement applies to both B.Sc. (Chemistry) and B.Pharm candidates. It is also one of the certificates that every applicant must upload, so a degree holder without this experience letter should not expect to get past document verification. The Commission will check the validity of these experience certificates through departmental consultation after the written test.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 21 years as on 01 August 2026. The maximum age depends on your category:

Category Maximum Age
Unreserved (male) 37 years
Unreserved (women) 40 years
BC and EBC (male and female) 40 years
SC and ST (male and female) 42 years

Date of birth will be taken from the Matriculation or equivalent certificate. The notification allows these further relaxations:

  • Persons with disabilities: 10 years in the maximum age.
  • Bihar government employees: 5 years for regularly appointed employees who have completed three years of continuous service and are applying for a post with a higher pay scale.
  • Contract workers in non-private labs in Bihar: relaxation equal to the contract period, including part of a year, for those who worked as Scientific Assistant or an equivalent post in laboratories of the Central Government, Bihar Government, municipalities, panchayati raj bodies and other public institutions, including military labs. The cut-off date for this calculation is 01 August 2026.
  • Ex-servicemen: 3 years plus the length of service rendered, as long as the actual age on the date of application does not exceed 57 years. A supporting certificate is compulsory.

A candidate can use only one of the age relaxations listed for government employees, contract workers and ex-servicemen, and not a combination of them. Contract workers should also note that their relaxation is valid only for the same post on which they are working under contract.

Application Fee

Every candidate pays an examination fee of Rs. 100. The notification does not list a separate fee for any category. Payment is accepted only online, through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Bank charges are separate and are deducted by the bank during the online payment. Keep a copy of the receipt, since the fee is not refunded once the form is rejected for being incomplete, unclear or late.

How Selection Works

This recruitment has no physical test. Candidates are ranked on a total of 100 marks that combine a written test with experience.

Component Marks
Computer Based Test (scaled) 75
Experience marks 25
Total 100

Computer Based Test

The test has 100 multiple choice questions in Hindi and English, with a duration of two hours and a total of 400 marks. Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong answer costs 1 mark. Questions will follow a syllabus that the Commission will publish separately on its website. If the test is held in more than one shift, results will be prepared using normalization.

Your raw percentage is multiplied by 0.75 to get your score out of 75. For example, a candidate who scores 50 percent gets 50 x 0.75 = 37.5 marks.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Category Minimum Marks
General 40 percent
Backward Class 36.5 percent
Extremely Backward Class 34 percent
SC, ST, women and persons with disabilities 32 percent

Candidates who are not residents of Bihar, including women and persons with disabilities, must score the General category minimum of 40 percent. A candidate who falls short of the minimum for the claimed category will not be considered at all.

Experience Marks

This is the part of the notification that sets this recruitment apart. Up to 25 marks are added for satisfactory service on a contract basis in a comparable post (Scientific Assistant or equivalent) in non-private laboratories in Bihar, which include Central Government, Bihar Government, municipal, panchayati raj, other public institutions and military labs.

  • The rate is 5 marks for every year of satisfactory service, up to a maximum of 25.
  • For part of a year, the number of working days is multiplied by 5 and divided by 365.
  • Experience is counted up to 25 September 2026.
  • These marks are added only if the candidate passes the written test.
  • If you do not claim experience in the application, you will get neither the marks nor the age relaxation.

Document Verification

Candidates who qualify in the written test are called for document verification, for which the Commission prepares a category-wise merit list as per the reservation provisions. A candidate who stays absent on the fixed date cannot ask for another chance, and the Commission's decision on this is final.

Experience Certificate Format for Contract Employees

Appendix-I of the notification contains a fixed format for the experience certificate, and it matters more than most applicants will expect, because marks and age relaxation are given only on this format. The certificate must be issued on the letterhead of the institution or office and must be signed and stamped by the competent controlling officer. It carries these details:

  • Letter number and date.
  • Name and father's name of the candidate, with address.
  • Details of the appointment on contract basis, including the notice or office order number and date, post name, and the name and address of the institution.
  • The period of service, from and to dates.
  • A statement that the contract appointment followed the reservation policy against the sanctioned post, and that the services were not obtained on a daily wage basis or through an outside agency.
  • A statement that the experience is that of a Scientific Assistant or equivalent.
  • The monthly salary or honorarium paid.

A copy of the departmental notice or office order should be attached. A certificate issued in any other format will not earn any marks.

How to Apply

The form is filled online. Follow these steps in order:

  1. Go to the BTSC official website and find the link for Advertisement No. 30/2026 for Scientific Assistant posts.
  2. Read the full notification and confirm that you meet the qualification, drug testing experience and age conditions as on 01 August 2026.
  3. Register with your own name, date of birth, mobile number and email ID, and keep these safe until the final selection list is published.
  4. Fill in every detail carefully, and tick your category along with any reservation, disability or freedom fighter dependent claim in the marked columns.
  5. Enter your qualification and experience details, and mention the number and issue date of each certificate in the online form.
  6. Upload clear scanned copies of every required certificate and a recent photograph with a white background taken within the last three months.
  7. Pay the examination fee of Rs. 100 online through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI, and download the payment receipt.
  8. Submit the form on or before 24 October 2026, then download and keep a hard copy of the form and all certificates for document verification.

Documents Required

Keep these papers ready before you start the online form, since each one has to be uploaded in its own column:

  • Original Matriculation certificate (for date of birth).
  • Marksheet and original or provisional certificate of B.Sc. (Chemistry) or B.Pharm.
  • Certificate of one year of drug testing and analysis experience (mandatory for everyone).
  • Caste certificate, non-creamy layer certificate or EWS certificate, as applicable.
  • Permanent residence (domicile) certificate.
  • Certificate of the freedom fighter, and of the applicant's relationship to the freedom fighter, if claimed.
  • Disability certificate, if claimed.
  • Contract experience certificate in the Appendix-I format, if claiming experience marks or age relaxation.

All these certificates must be issued by 24 October 2026 and must match what you entered in the online form, including the number and date of issue. At document verification the Commission accepts only those documents that were uploaded online and will compare them with the originals. If a required certificate is not uploaded, the Commission can reject the candidature. Documents that are blurred, unclear or dark can also lead to cancellation at the verification stage, even after the exam.

Reservation Rules to Check Before Applying

Reservation is available only to candidates whose permanent residence is in Bihar, and the permanent address you enter in the online form is treated as your domicile. Candidates from outside Bihar cannot claim it. A few points in the notification trip up applicants often:

  • If you do not claim reservation in the marked column of the online form, you will not get its benefit later, and the category cannot be changed after registration.
  • SC and ST candidates need a caste certificate and a domicile certificate. BC and EBC candidates need a non-creamy layer certificate (for Bihar government purposes) and a domicile certificate. EWS candidates need an income and asset certificate and a domicile certificate. A caste certificate alone is not enough for BC and EBC reservation.
  • An income and asset certificate is treated as valid for one year from the date of issue.
  • The 35 percent horizontal reservation for women applies only to permanent residents of Bihar.
  • Disability reservation applies only to Bihar domiciled candidates with a benchmark disability. The certificate must come from a duly constituted medical board in the prescribed format, and disability must be claimed in the online form. Candidates claiming multiple disabilities need a certificate in Form VI under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017. The Commission may have disability re-examined by its own medical board.
  • Candidates with a benchmark disability of 40 percent or more can get a scribe, and must mark Yes in the scribe column of the online form.
  • A 2 percent horizontal reservation is available to grandchildren and great-grandchildren of freedom fighters of Bihar who receive a pension from the Central Government. The certificate must be signed by the District Magistrate or an authorised officer. A successor identity card is not valid.
  • Kinner, Kothi, Hijra and transgender candidates get the benefit given to the Backward Classes.

Photograph and Form-Filling Rules

  • The photograph must have been taken within the last three months, showing the face and head clearly with eyes open.
  • The background must be white with no shadow on the photo, and spectacles should be removed.
  • Keep at least five extra copies of the same photograph for later use.
  • Use your own mobile number and email ID, and never someone else's. Keep them active until the final selection list is out.
  • Registration or fee payment alone does not complete the application. Both the form submission and the fee payment are required.
  • No correction or change is allowed once the form is submitted.
  • Printed, typed or handwritten applications are not accepted, and incomplete, unclear or late online forms will be rejected.
  • Applying on the basis of a fake or forged certificate will lead to cancellation of candidature and legal action.

Download and keep hard copies of the final form and all certificates. The Commission can ask for self-attested photocopies at document verification or at any other stage.
