Vacancy Details Category Wise

Women get 35 percent horizontal reservation in every category, and this benefit is available only to women who are original residents of Bihar state. A 2 percent horizontal reservation is also available for grandchildren of freedom fighters who receive central government pension, and this applies to about 3 posts within the total 150 vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria For Sub-Inspector Post

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a graduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university as on 1 August 2025.

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on 1 August 2025. Bihar government employees with at least 3 years of regular service get 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit. Ex-servicemen get 3 years relaxation plus their period of military service, provided their actual age does not cross 57 years on the cut off date.

Physical Standards For Sub-Inspector Post

Height

Chest (Only For Men)

Chest expansion of at least 5 cm is compulsory for men. Chest measurement is not applicable for women candidates.

Weight

Women candidates of all categories must have a minimum weight of 48 kilograms. No specific weight standard is mentioned for male candidates. No marks are given for height, chest or weight, but candidates not meeting the prescribed physical standards will be declared unsuccessful.

Exam Pattern: Preliminary Exam

Each correct answer carries 2 marks. Subjects include English, General Knowledge, Hindi Language, Reasoning and Current Affairs. Candidates scoring below 30 percent will not be considered for the main exam. Up to 10 times the number of vacancies will be selected category wise for the main exam.

Exam Pattern: Main Exam Paper 1

Paper 1 is objective multiple choice with 200 questions for 200 marks, to be completed in 3 hours. Each correct answer gets 1 mark, and 0.25 mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

Exam Pattern: Main Exam Paper 2

Paper 2 is a subjective descriptive paper of 50 marks, to be completed in 1 hour. Candidates must score at least 30 percent in both papers of the main exam. Based on main exam marks, 3 times the number of vacancies will be selected category wise for the Physical Standard Test.

Merit List 2026

The final merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the main written exam, category wise. In case of a tie in marks, preference will go to the older candidate by date of birth, then by higher educational qualification, and finally by the Hindi alphabetical order of the candidate name as per the matric certificate.
