Reservation Categories

Nationality

The candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries with intent to permanently settle in India.

Educational Qualification (as on 01 August 2026)

  • Master's degree from a recognized university in Hindi with English as a compulsory/elective subject or as medium at degree level; OR
  • Master's degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory/elective subject or as medium at degree level; OR
  • Master's degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory/elective subject; OR
  • Master's degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory/elective subject; OR
  • Master's degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with both Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either as medium and the other as compulsory/elective subject at degree level.

AND a recognized diploma or certificate in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa OR 2 years' experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in a Central or State Government Office including Government of India Undertakings.

For Post Code D (Senior Posts):

Same Master's degree qualification as above, AND a recognized diploma or certificate in translation OR 3 years' experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in a Central or State Government Office.

Selection Process

The selection for SSC CHT Recruitment 2026 will be based on the following stages:

Syllabus

Paper-I Syllabus

Questions are designed to test the candidate's understanding of Hindi and English languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms, and ability to write both languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The level of questions is Degree level.

Paper-II Syllabus

The paper contains:

  • One passage for translation from Hindi to English
  • One passage for translation from English to Hindi
  • An essay in Hindi
  • An essay in English

This paper tests the candidate's translation skills and ability to write and comprehend both languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The level of the paper is consistent with the prescribed educational qualifications.

Follow these steps carefully to complete your SSC CHT Online Form 2026:

  1. Visit the official SSC website at ssc.gov.in and click on the 'Login or Register' button on the homepage.
  2. Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) by entering your personal details, Aadhaar number, mobile number, email ID and matriculation details. Note: OTR from the old SSC website (ssc.nic.in) is not valid for the new website.
  3. Login using your Registration Number and password. Click on the 'Apply' link under 'Combined Hindi Translators Examination, 2026' in the Live Exam section.
  4. Fill in your educational qualification details, including your graduation and post-graduation information as required for the post you are applying for.
  5. Provide details about your translation diploma or certificate course and translation work experience, as applicable for the post code you are applying for.
  6. Capture your live photograph using webcam or mobile device and upload your scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB).
  7. Select your preferred examination centres (up to 3 centres in order of preference) from the available options across India.
  8. Preview the filled application form carefully, accept the declaration and submit the form. Pay the application fee of Rs. 100 (if applicable) through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Debit Card before 15 May 2026.

Important: Do not wait for the last date. Apply early to avoid website congestion. Candidates are advised to save a printout of the submitted application for future reference.

Application Form Correction Window

SSC will provide a correction window from 19 May 2026 to 20 May 2026 (23:00 hrs) for candidates to modify their submitted applications. Key points:

  • A candidate can re-submit the corrected application a maximum of two times during this window.
  • Correction charge for first modification: Rs. 200/-
  • Correction charge for second modification: Rs. 500/-
  • Correction charges are applicable to all candidates irrespective of gender or category.
  • No correction will be allowed after the window closes under any circumstances.

Important Rules and General Instructions

  • Only one online application is allowed per candidate. Multiple applications will result in cancellation of candidature.
  • Candidature is accepted provisionally. Eligibility will be verified at the time of Document Verification by the User Department.
  • Candidates must fill their name, father's name and date of birth exactly as mentioned in the Matriculation Certificate.
  • All posts carry All India Service Liability (AISL) — selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India.
  • Selected candidates will be on probation for 2 years.
