What This Apprenticeship Is About

This is not a regular government appointment. ITR is engaging young Indian nationals as apprentices for one year under the Apprentices Act 1961 and the Apprentice Rules 1992, as amended from time to time. Selected candidates sign a 12-month apprenticeship contract, and the training period starts from the day that contract is executed.

The seats are spread across engineering, library science, management, commerce and a few diploma trades such as cinematography and medical laboratory technology. That mix is worth noticing: if you hold a BBA, B.Com or B.Lib.Sc degree, there are seats for you here, which is not common in a DRDO laboratory notice.

One point to read carefully before you spend time on the form: ITR says it is not obliged to offer any employment once the apprenticeship ends. Treat this as a year of structured training and a stipend, not as a guaranteed job.

Important Dates

Event Date
Notification published and applications start 9 October 2026
Last date for receipt of application with documents at ITR 2 November 2026

Applications are open from 9 October 2026 to 2 November 2026. The deadline counts the day your envelope reaches Chandipur, not the day you post it. Applications sent late by post are therefore at risk even if they were dispatched before the date.

Eligibility Criteria

The conditions below are all taken from the notification, and several of them are strict enough to cost you the seat if missed.

  • NATS registration: B.E/B.Tech, diploma, BBA, B.Com and B.Lib.Sc candidates must have registered their names on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme portal. Non-registered candidates are likely to be rejected.
  • Year of passing: Only candidates who passed in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 can apply. Those who passed earlier than 2022 are not eligible.
  • Regular mode: Only candidates who completed the qualifying examination as regular candidates are eligible.
  • No higher qualification: Candidates with a qualification higher than the one required for their category cannot apply.
  • Experience limit: Degree or diploma holders who have had training or job experience of one year or more after attaining the essential qualification are not eligible to be engaged as apprentices.
  • PwBD candidates: They are eligible only for the trades designated under the Apprenticeship Rules 1992.
  • Marks in percentage: Marks in the qualifying examination must be written as a percentage. If your university awards CGPA, convert it using your university norms; it may be checked at document verification.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 18 years. The notification does not print a maximum age. Instead, it says the maximum age and relaxations follow the Apprentices Act 1961, the Apprenticeship Rules 1992 and the NATS 2.0 or NAPS guidelines, so check those rules for your category before applying.

Selection Process

Selection is based on a written test, a personal interview, or both, and only for shortlisted candidates. ITR keeps the right to use its own method of shortlisting and is not bound to shortlist everyone who meets the minimum requirements. In its own words, simply fulfilling the advertised conditions does not make a candidate eligible for selection.

Reservation will be applied as per the Apprentices Act 1961 and the Apprentice Rules 1992, as amended from time to time. Canvassing or influencing in any form leads to disqualification, and suppression of facts leads to disqualification at any stage.

All details about the written test, interview and call letters will be given only through the website or by email. ITR will not post hard copies of call letters, and downloading and printing them is the candidate's responsibility.
