Eligibility Criteria

Mining Sirdar T&S Gr. C

Candidates must be Matriculate or equivalent from a recognized board, along with a valid Mining Sirdarship Certificate of Competency issued by DGMS under Coal Mines Regulation 2017 (or an equivalent certificate that permits working as Mining Sirdar), plus a valid Gas Testing Certificate and a valid First Aid Certificate. Alternatively, a Matriculate candidate holding a Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering along with a valid Overman Competency Certificate, Gas Testing Certificate and First Aid Certificate is also eligible.

Surveyor (Mining) T&S Gr. B

Candidates must be Matriculate along with a valid Surveyors' Certificate of Competency (SCC) granted under Coal Mines Regulation 2017, or a Degree or Diploma in Mining or Mine Surveying Engineering along with a valid SCC.

NCL has clarified that these are minimum qualifications, so candidates with higher or relevant qualifications may also apply, but qualifications obtained through distance learning or part-time modes will not be considered.

Application Fee

Pay Scale and Probation

Besides basic pay, selected candidates will also get DA, attendance bonus, special allowance, transport subsidy and medical facility as per the National Coal Wage Agreement and Company rules.

Selection Process

Selection will be made through a Computer Based Test (CBT) conducted separately for each post. Candidates are allowed to sit for the CBT purely on the basis of their self-declared eligibility in the online form; eligibility documents are scrutinized only after the CBT result is declared, and only for candidates who clear the cut-off marks.

Exam Pattern

The CBT carries 100 marks for a duration of 90 minutes in a single sitting, with no negative marking for wrong answers and no marks for unattempted questions. The paper is bilingual, in English and Hindi, with the English version treated as final in case of any discrepancy.

If the CBT is conducted in multiple shifts, scores will be normalized using a statistical formula based on the average and standard deviation of each shift.

Syllabus Overview

Section A of the CBT is discipline specific. For Mining Sirdar, it covers opencast mine working, bench formation and dump management, shot firing and explosives, safety in opencast workings, mine reclamation, safety management plans, and provisions of the Coal Mines Regulations 2017, Mines Act 1952, Mines Rules 1955 and related DGMS circulars. For Surveyor, it covers linear and angular measurement, EDM, plane table surveying, theodolite and total station work, levelling, tacheometry, controlled surveys including GPS, field astronomy, national grid systems, geodesy, photogrammetry, error theory, mine plan preparation, and relevant survey software such as Surpac, AutoCAD, Liscad and RiScan Pro. Section B, common to both posts, covers General Knowledge, General Awareness, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.
