Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Eligibility depends on which GATE paper you hold a valid score in:

  • CS paper: A four-year Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a closely related field such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or Cyber Security, or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, or a similar discipline, or an MCA.
  • DA paper: The same set of qualifications listed for CS also applies here, given the overlap between computing and data-focused disciplines in the notification.
  • EC paper: A four-year Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Telecommunication, or related fields such as Mechatronics or Robotics and Automation, or a Master's degree in Electronics or a related specialisation.

You must hold this qualification by the cut-off date, and no equivalent qualification will be accepted in place of what is listed in the notification.

GATE Score Requirement

A valid GATE score of 2024, 2025, or 2026 in the paper code matching your discipline (CS, DA, or EC) is mandatory. There is no separate written exam for this recruitment; your GATE score itself is the basis for shortlisting.

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on the cut-off date of 17 August 2026.

Category Upper Age Limit
UR / EWS 30 years
SC / ST 35 years
OBC (NCL) 33 years
PwBD (UR/EWS) 40 years
PwBD (SC/ST) 45 years
PwBD (OBC-NCL) 43 years
Ex-servicemen As per Government rules

Age relaxation of 5 years is also available for candidates already serving in government organisations in similar or allied posts, and further relaxations for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), and PwBD candidates follow standard Central Government rules.

Experience

No prior work experience is required for this post.

Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be placed as Scientist B, equivalent to a Group A post, in Level-10 of the 7th CPC pay matrix (Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 177,500).

Selection Process

The selection process for ICERT Scientist B is built entirely around the GATE score rather than a fresh written test:

  • Candidates are shortlisted for a Personal Interaction/Interview in a 1:5 ratio based on discipline-wise and category-wise GATE merit. If multiple candidates share the cut-off score, all of them are called, even if that means exceeding the 1:5 ratio.
  • GATE scores from 2024, 2025, and 2026 are all given equal weightage; candidates may use their best score from any one eligible year.
  • Document verification takes place before the interaction, and candidates who don't appear with original documents are not permitted to sit for the interview.
  • In the interaction, candidates are assessed on technical knowledge, presentation and communication skills, and academic performance, out of a maximum of 50 marks.
  • To be considered for the final merit list, candidates need at least 50 percent marks in the interaction (UR category) or 40 percent (EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and PwBD categories).
  • The final merit list is prepared using 60 percent weightage to the GATE score and 40 percent weightage to interaction marks, calculated separately for each discipline and category.

In case of a tie, ICERT first looks at the higher GATE score, then at marks in the technical knowledge component of the interview, and finally at the candidate's age, with the older candidate ranked higher.
