UPESSC Assistant Teacher Vacancy Details 2026

The 12405 posts are divided between two categories of schools. The Assistant Teacher Prathmik Urban post carries 11508 vacancies under the Basic Shiksha Parishad, while the Assistant Teacher Sambaddha Primary post carries 897 vacancies in government aided schools, split as 473 posts in boys schools and 424 posts in girls schools under the Madhyamik Shiksha Vibhag. Eligibility Criteria

Assistant Teacher, Prathmik Urban

A candidate must hold a graduate degree from a university established by law in India, or an equivalent degree recognised by the government, along with a government recognised training qualification. This includes the Basic Teacher Certificate (BTC), two year BTC (Urdu), Special BTC, a two year diploma in special education approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India, or a four year degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), or a two year diploma in Elementary Education as per the National Council for Teacher Education Regulations, 2002, along with the Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the Uttar Pradesh government or the Government of India. The notification notes that the BTC course is currently run under the name D.El.Ed course.

Assistant Teacher, Sambaddha Primary

A candidate must hold a graduate degree from a university, deemed university or institution established or recognised by law in India, along with a BTC or D.El.Ed qualification recognised by the NCTE, and must have successfully cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for classes 1 to 5, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh government or the Government of India.

Age Limit

For the Assistant Teacher Urban post, the minimum age is 21 years and the maximum age is 40 years as on 1 July 2026. For the Assistant Teacher Sambaddha Primary post, the minimum age is 21 years as on 1 July 2026, and the post carries a superannuation age of 62 years rather than a fixed upper age limit at entry.

Age Relaxation for the Urban Post

  • SC, ST and OBC candidates of Uttar Pradesh get a 5 year relaxation in the maximum age limit.

The fee can be paid online through credit card, debit card or net banking. Payment confirmation is received from the bank after payment, and only fee confirmed by the bank is treated as valid. Candidates should save the fee receipt after payment.

Selection Process

Selection for both the Assistant Teacher Urban and Sambaddha Primary posts will be made from a merit list based on a written examination carrying 360 marks, made up of 120 objective type questions. If candidates have equal marks in the merit list, preference is given first on the basis of graduation percentage, then training qualification percentage, and if these are also equal, the candidate with a higher age is placed higher in the merit list.

Written Exam Pattern

  • The exam will be of 2 hours duration and carry 360 marks for 120 questions.
  • All questions are multiple choice, with four options, and candidates must darken the correct circle with a black ball point pen on the OMR sheet.
  • Each correct answer carries 3 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer or for marking more than one option (negative marking).
  • The question paper will be set in both English and Hindi.
  • If the exam is held in a single shift, raw marks will be used for the merit list. If it is held in more than one shift, a score normalization process will be applied and normalized marks will be used for selection, as per the process notified separately by the Commission.

How to Apply for UPESSC Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2026

  1. Visit the official UPESSC website at upessc.up.gov.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR), which is compulsory before filling the application form.
  2. Log in after OTR and fill the online application form for the Assistant Teacher Urban post, the Sambaddha Primary post, or both, entering category, sub category, date of birth and gender carefully since these cannot be changed after final submission.
  3. Upload a scanned signature on a white background in JPG or JPEG format sized between 10 KB and 200 KB, and a passport size photograph sized between 30 KB and 300 KB.
  4. Fill the mandatory preference option for selection between the two types of schools, since this cannot be changed after the last date.
  5. Pay the examination fee through credit card, debit card or net banking using the payment gateway available on the portal, and save the fee receipt.
