Eligibility Criteria

For most of the 26 subjects, the standard qualification is a postgraduate degree in the concerned subject from a university established by law in India (or a deemed university), along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree from an NCTE-recognised institution. A few subjects carry different requirements, as shown below.

Candidates must hold the required qualifications by the last date fixed for acceptance of applications. Those who do not meet the minimum prescribed qualification for a subject are advised not to apply, as they alone will be responsible for any resulting rejection.

Age Limit

The minimum age for the Pravakta post is 21 years as on 01 July 2026, and the maximum age (superannuation age for the post) is 62 years. Applications will not be accepted if the date of birth is not mentioned, or if the candidate has already crossed 62 years of age as on 01 July 2026. Age relaxation for reserved categories will be as per applicable Uttar Pradesh government rules.

Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be placed in Pay Level-8, carrying a pay scale of Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100 per month, along with other allowances admissible under the aided secondary school pay structure of Uttar Pradesh.

Selection Process

Selection to the Pravakta post is made on a merit list prepared out of 400 total marks, comprising 360 marks for the written examination (based on 120 objective-type questions) and 40 marks for the interview. In case of a tie in overall merit, preference is given first to marks in the written exam, then interview marks, then percentage of marks in the postgraduate degree, and finally percentage in the B.Ed qualification; if all of these are equal, the older candidate is placed higher.

Exam Pattern

The written examination will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions, of which 30 questions will be from General Knowledge and 90 questions will be based on the concerned subject. The exam duration is 2 hours. Each question carries 3 marks for a correct answer, while 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer or for marking more than one option. How To Apply

Interested and eligible candidates can apply for the UPESSC Pravakta (PGT) posts only through the online mode, using the OTR-based application system. Applications sent through any other mode will not be accepted. The broad steps are given below.

  1. Step 1: Visit the official UPESSC website at upessc.up.gov.in.
  2. Step 2: Complete One Time Registration (OTR), which is mandatory before applying for the Pravakta post.
  3. Step 3: Log in with the OTR credentials and fill in the Pravakta (PGT) online application form carefully, since details like category and date of birth cannot be changed after final submission.
  4. Step 4: Upload a scanned signature (10 KB to 200 KB, white background, JPG/JPEG) and a passport-size photograph (30 KB to 300 KB) in the specified format.
  5. Step 5: Upload the required certificates and documents in PDF format, each between 50 KB and 500 KB in size.

  7. Step 7: Submit the completed application form and save at least three printed copies for future use.

General Rules

  • The commission does not give separate advice on eligibility, so candidates should study the advertisement carefully before applying.
  • The High School or equivalent certificate is the only valid proof of date of birth.

  • Scribe facility is available for Divyang candidates as per government orders, subject to registration with the commission at least one week before the written exam.
