About SSC JE 2026
Through this notice, the Commission will hold an open competitive examination to recruit Junior Engineers for various government organizations and offices, and to fill the post of Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department. All these posts are Group B, placed at Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix. The exam is conducted as a Computer Based Examination in two stages, Paper-I and Paper-II, and is one of the standard routes into technical government service for diploma and degree holders in engineering.

The fee can be paid only through online modes: BHIM UPI, net banking, or a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay debit card. Once paid, the fee is not refunded or adjusted against any other examination, so candidates should confirm their post preference and eligibility before paying.

Only male candidates are eligible to apply for Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation. Candidates applying for BRO posts should also review the physical efficiency test and medical standards prescribed for that organization, since these are checked after the final result and cannot be waived later.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification varies by post and organization, but the general pattern is a degree or a three-year diploma in the relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical) from a recognized university, institute, or board. Some organizations, such as the Military Engineer Services and Border Roads Organisation, also accept a diploma holder with two years of relevant work experience in place of a degree. The Department of Telecommunication requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in a related electronics or telecom stream, while the Scientific Assistant post in IMD requires a Bachelor's degree in Science with Physics, or a related degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or Telecommunication Engineering. Candidates should refer to the detailed post-wise qualification table in the official notice, since exact requirements differ across the 13 participating organizations.
On nationality, a candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from certain listed countries with the intention of settling permanently in India, subject to an eligibility certificate from the Government of India where applicable.
Age Limit and Age Relaxation
The age limit for most posts is up to 30 years, while CPWD and the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships allow up to 32 years, as shown in the organization table above. Candidates for posts with an upper limit of 30 years must be born not earlier than 2 August 1996 and not later than 1 August 2008. For the 32-year limit, candidates must be born not earlier than 2 August 1994 and not later than 1 August 2008.

Pay Scale
All posts under this notice are Group B posts placed at Level-6 of the Pay Matrix under the 7th Central Pay Commission, carrying a pay range of Rs 35400 to Rs 112400 per month, before allowances.
Selection Process
Selection is made through two stages of a Computer Based Examination, followed by Document Verification.
- Paper-I: Qualifying in nature. Used only to shortlist candidates, category-wise, for Paper-II.
- Paper-II: A candidate's performance here decides the final merit list and post allocation.
- Document Verification: Conducted by the concerned user department after the final result, where original certificates for education, category, age relaxation, and experience are checked.
Separate merit lists are prepared for Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical), Junior Engineer (Telecom), and Scientific Assistant in IMD.

Both papers consist of objective type, multiple-choice questions only, set in Hindi and English. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I and 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-II. A Table of IS 456:2000 Code of Practice, a Steam Table (where required), and an on-screen scientific calculator will be made available during the exam, though no physical version of either is allowed inside the exam lab.

How to Apply
- Complete your One-Time Registration (OTR) on the official SSC website at ssc.gov.in. An OTR generated on the old website will not work here, so candidates must register fresh on the new site.
- Log in after registration and open the Online Application Form for the SSC Junior Engineer Examination 2026, either on the website or through the mySSC mobile application.
- Fill in your personal, educational, and post preference details, and capture a real-time photograph as prompted by the application module. Aadhaar-based authentication is recommended to avoid rejection over photograph or signature issues.
- Upload your scanned signature in JPEG format between 10 and 20 KB, sized about 6.0 cm by 2.0 cm, along with any category or disability certificates that apply to you.
- Pay the application fee of Rs 100 through BHIM UPI, net banking, or a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay debit card, unless you are exempted as a woman, SC, ST, PwBD, or Ex-Serviceman candidate.
- Preview your form carefully before final submission, then save or print a copy for your records.
- Use the Window for Online Application Form Correction between 28 and 30 September 2026 if you need to fix any mistake, keeping in mind the correction charges of Rs 200 or Rs 500.
