About SSC CHSL 2026

SSC CHSL, or the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, is conducted every year to recruit Class 12 pass candidates into Group C posts in central government offices. The 2026 cycle covers three post categories: LDC/JSA in various ministries and departments, DEO and DEO Grade A in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, SSC and the Ministry of Culture, and DEO/DEO Grade A in other departments. The Commission has also noted that only male candidates are eligible for any vacancies reported by the Border Roads Organization (BRO).

Application Fee

The application fee for SSC CHSL 2026 is Rs 100. Women candidates, and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempted from paying the fee. Payment can be made online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and RuPay debit cards up to 08-10-2026. Fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other examination.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification (As on 07-10-2026)

• For LDC/JSA and DEO/DEO Grade A (except DEOs in the departments listed below): Class 12 or equivalent from a recognized Board or University.
• For DEO/DEO Grade A in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, SSC and the Ministry of Culture: Class 12 pass in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
• Candidates awaiting their Class 12 result may also apply, but must have the qualification confirmed by the cut-off date of 07-10-2026.

Nationality

Applicants must be citizens of India, or subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, or persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of settling permanently in India, subject to an eligibility certificate where applicable.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on 01-08-2026, meaning candidates born not before 02-08-1999 and not later than 01-08-2008 are eligible to apply.

Pay Scale

• LDC/JSA: Pay Level-2 (Rs 19,900 to 63,200)
• Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Level-4 (Rs 25,500 to 81,100) and Pay Level-5 (Rs 29,200 to 92,300)

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

Selection is made through a computer based examination held in two tiers.

Tier-I: Scheme

Tier-I lasts 60 minutes for all four parts combined, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes per subject. All questions are Objective Type, Multiple Choice, with a penalty of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

Tier-II: Scheme

Tier-II runs across two sessions on the same day: Session-I covers Sections I, II and III over 2 hours 15 minutes, and Session-II covers the Skill Test/ Typing Test. Section-I and Section-II carry a penalty of 1 mark for each wrong answer, and it is mandatory to qualify all four sections. Section-III (Computer Knowledge Test) is qualifying in nature.

Skill Test and Typing Test

• DEO/DEO Grade A in the specified departments: 15,000 key depressions per hour, 15-minute test.
• DEO/DEO Grade A in other departments: 8,000 key depressions per hour, 15-minute test.
• LDC/JSA Typing Test: 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi (Mangal font only for Hindi), tested over 10 minutes.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Final merit is based on aggregate marks in Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II, subject to qualifying Section-III and Section-IV. Post allotment follows merit-cum-preference, and once exercised, preferences are final and cannot be changed.

Indicative Syllabus

Tier-I covers English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness at a basic level.

Tier-II covers Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning and General Intelligence, English Language and Comprehension, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge covering computer basics, MS Office, internet and email use, and basics of networking and cyber security.

How to Apply

1. Visit the new SSC Headquarter website at ssc.gov.in or use the my SSC mobile app, since the earlier OTR on the old website will not work here.
2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) if not already done on the new website. An OTR already created on the new site remains valid for all future SSC exams.
3. Opt for Aadhaar Based Authentication during OTR where possible, as this avoids rejection over photograph or signature format issues later.
4. Log in and fill the CHSL 2026 application form, capturing a live photograph through the application module and uploading a scanned signature of 10 to 20 KB in JPEG format.
5. Select your examination centre preferences, language options, and, for LDC/JSA candidates, the medium of the Typing Test.
6. Pay the Rs 100 application fee online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay debit cards, unless you are exempted.
7. Use the Preview or Print option to check every field, photograph and signature before final submission, then save a copy of the submitted form.

• Marks scored across multiple shifts are normalized before determining merit and cut-offs.

• SSC does not maintain a waiting or reserve list for this examination; a First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA) mechanism applies instead.
