Age Limit (As on 19 May 2026)

In summary: Minimum age is 15 years and maximum age is 24 years as on 19.05.2026 for UR candidates. Age relaxation: SC/ST – 5 years; OBC – 3 years; PwBD and Ex-Servicemen – 10 years. For Ex-Servicemen, additional relaxation equal to actual defense service rendered plus 3 years is also applicable (provided minimum 6 months continuous service).

Minimum Educational Qualification

• Passed Matriculation (10th) or equivalent with minimum 50% marks.
• Holds National Trade Certificate (ITI) in the notified trade issued by NCVT, or a Provisional Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT.
• Candidates must fill both their 10th marks and ITI marks on the NAPS portal. If either is missing in the downloaded Excel file, the application will be automatically rejected.
• Do NOT fill any higher qualification (graduation, diploma, etc.) in the portal's qualification section.

Selection Process – SECR Nagpur Apprentice 2026

There is no written examination. Selection is based purely on merit list prepared as follows:

• Merit list = Percentage of marks in Matriculation (minimum 50% aggregate) + ITI marks in the relevant trade.
• For candidates from boards that award grades (e.g., Board of Secondary Education AP, Board of Public Examination Kerala), SECR Nagpur will take the midpoint of the grade range for each subject and calculate the average treating each subject as out of 100 marks.
• Tie-breaking rule: In case of equal marks, the older candidate is preferred. If dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed matriculation earlier gets priority.

After Merit Listing

• Shortlisted candidates will undergo verification of all original testimonials.
• Candidates must be found medically fit as per Railway's applicable medical examination standards for Workshop and Division units.

Training and Stipend

• Training duration: 1 (one) year only.

Medical Fitness

The medical certificate must be signed by a Government-authorized Gazetted Doctor, not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon of a Central or State Hospital.

Ex-Servicemen Reservation

10% reservation is provided for Ex-Servicemen. Selected Ex-Servicemen will be placed in their appropriate category (UR/SC/ST/OBC) as well. The priority order for Ex-Servicemen quota is:
