Eligibility Criteria — RRB ALP Recruitment 2026

Nationality

Candidates must be a citizen of India, or a citizen of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries. Government of India eligibility certificate is required for candidates from categories (ii) to (v).

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have the required qualification as on the closing date of application (14 June 2026). Those awaiting results must NOT apply.

• Option A: Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI from a recognised institution of NCVT/SCVT in any of the following trades: Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio and TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature and Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, or Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic.
• Option A (Alt): Matriculation/SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trades mentioned above.
• Option B: Matriculation/SSLC plus 3-year Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering (or a combination of these streams) from a recognised institution, in lieu of ITI.
• Note: A Degree in the above engineering disciplines is also acceptable in lieu of a Diploma in Engineering.

Medical Standards — RRB ALP A-1 Category

The post of ALP has the most stringent medical standard — A-1. This post is not suitable for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

• General Fitness: Physically fit in all respects
• Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses (with fogging test — must not accept +2D)
• Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses
• Must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, and Mesopic Vision
• LASIK Surgery: Candidates who have undergone LASIK or any other corrective eye surgery are NOT eligible for ALP post
• If a candidate fails the medical examination, no alternative appointment will be offered by Railways

Self-Screening Medical Declaration: A built-in self-screening questionnaire is included in the online application. Candidates must declare conformity with minimum physical and mental fitness standards. A downloadable medical report (Annexure VIIIA and VIIIB) is generated and must be submitted on CBAT day, duly signed by a General Physician and Eye Specialist from any Central/State Government Hospital or Medical College.

Examination Structure — RRB ALP Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2026

Stage 1: First Stage CBT (CBT-1) — Screening Test

CBT-1 Syllabus: Mathematics (Number system, BODMAS, Fractions, LCM/HCF, Ratio, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar and Clock, Pipes and Cistern) | Mental Ability (Analogies, Series, Coding-Decoding, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation, Analytical Reasoning, Directions, Statement-Arguments, etc.) | General Science (Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at 10th standard level)

Stage 2: Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)

Part-A Syllabus: Mathematics (same as CBT-1) | General Intelligence and Reasoning | Basic Science and Engineering (Engineering Drawing, Units and Measurements, Mass, Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy)

Part-B: Qualifying test based on trade syllabus as prescribed by Directorate General of Training (DGT). ITI/Apprenticeship holders appear in their trade section. Degree/Diploma holders select one applicable trade from the qualifying list.

Stage 3: Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

• Conducted only in English and Hindi
• No negative marking in CBAT
• Qualifying Marks: Minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery separately (mandatory for all categories)
• Self-Screening Medical Declaration Report (Annexure VIIIA and VIIIB) must be produced in original on CBAT day

Stage 4 and 5: Document Verification and Medical Examination

• Final merit list prepared RRB-wise from candidates qualifying CBAT
• Merit = 50% weightage to CBT-2 Part-A marks + 50% weightage to CBAT scores
• Tie-breaking: Older candidate gets higher merit; if age is same, alphabetical order (A to Z) of first name is used
• Candidates are shortlisted for DV and ME equal to the number of vacancies
• Medical Examination conducted by Railway Medical Authorities as per IRMM guidelines

Post Parameters — RRB ALP Pay Scale 2026

Selected candidates will have to undergo training wherever prescribed and only stipend will be paid during the training period. After training, selected candidates are liable for active service in Railway Engineers' Unit of Territorial Army.

1. Visit the official website of your chosen RRB from the list of 20 RRB websites provided in the notification (e.g., rrbald.gov.in, rrbmumbai.gov.in, rrbchennai.gov.in, etc.).
2. Click on the link for CEN No. 01/2026 (ALP Recruitment). Read the detailed notification carefully before applying.
3. Create an Account using your valid personal mobile number and email ID. If you already have an account from a previous RRB CEN (2024/2025), use the same credentials. Authenticate your identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar for a smoother process. Note: Details filled in 'Create an Account' cannot be changed later.
4. Fill the Self-Screening Medical Declaration questionnaire to confirm conformity with minimum physical and medical fitness standards (including no LASIK surgery, no diabetes, no hypertension, proper vision, etc.).
5. Fill the online application form with all required details — personal information, educational qualification, category, zone preferences, and medium of examination. Re-check all details before submission.
6. Capture a live photograph using your webcam or mobile front camera as directed by the application module. Wear dark (non-white) clothing for proper contrast. Do not wear caps, masks, or spectacles during the live capture.
7. Upload your scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format (30 KB to 49 KB, minimum 140 x 60 pixels). The signature must be in running handwriting using black ink on white paper. NOT in capital or block letters.
