Vacancy Details - RBI Grade B Recruitment 2026

A total of 60 posts have been notified across three cadres. The category-wise and cadre-wise distribution is as follows:

Abbreviations: GEN/UR - General/Unreserved; EWS - Economically Weaker Section; OBC - Other Backward Classes; SC - Scheduled Caste; ST - Scheduled Tribe; PwBD - Persons with Benchmark Disabilities; A - Blindness and Low Vision; B - Deaf and Hard of Hearing; C - Locomotor Disability including Cerebral Palsy etc.; D - Autism, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability and Mental Illness.

Note: Candidates can apply for Grade B (DR) either in DEPR or DSIM cadre, not both. EWS vacancies are tentative and subject to further Government of India directives.

Eligibility Criteria - RBI Officer Grade B 2026

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 with intention of permanent settlement, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries. Candidates from categories other than Indian citizens require an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

Age Limit (As on 01 April 2026)

For DEPR/DSIM cadres, candidates with Master's Degree and research/teaching experience get age relaxation up to 3 years. Age relaxations are not cumulative except for SC/ST/OBC candidates who are also Ex-servicemen or PwBD.

Number of Attempts

General/EWS candidates who have already appeared six times in Phase-I examination for this post in the past are not eligible to apply. No such restriction applies to SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates if posts are reserved for them.

Educational Qualification - RBI Grade B 2026

All educational qualifications must be as on 01 April 2026.

Officers in Grade B (DR) - General Cadre

• Graduation in any discipline with minimum 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) in aggregate from a recognised university (minimum 3 years duration after Class XII). OR
• Post-Graduation in any discipline with minimum 55% marks (pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD) in aggregate from a recognised university (minimum 2 years duration after Graduation).

Officers in Grade B (DR) - DEPR Cadre

Essential:

• MA/MSc in Economics or MA/MSc in Quantitative Economics, Mathematical Economics, Applied Economics, Econometrics, Financial Economics, Business Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, International Economics (where Economics is the principal constituent - i.e., half or more of total courses must be in Economics), OR
• MA/MSc in Finance or MA/MSc in Quantitative Finance, Mathematical Finance, International Finance, Corporate Finance, Agri Business Finance etc. (where Finance is the principal constituent).
• Minimum 55% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) from a recognised Indian or Foreign University.

Desirable: Doctorate in Economics, research/teaching experience in economics, or publication in standard journals. Candidates with M.Phil./Ph.D. in Economics get age relaxation of 2/4 years respectively.

Officers in Grade B (DR) - DSIM Cadre

Essential (any one of the following):

• Master's Degree with minimum 55% marks in Statistics / Mathematics / Mathematical Statistics / Applied Statistics / Quantitative Economics / Econometrics / Informatics or related fields. OR
• Master's Degree with minimum 55% marks in Data Science / Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning / Big Data Analytics or related fields. OR
• Four-year Bachelor's Degree with minimum 60% marks in Statistics / Mathematical Statistics / Data Science / AI / Machine Learning / Big Data Analytics or related fields.
• For SC/ST/PwBD, minimum marks required is 50% in all of the above options.

Desirable: Doctorate in related subjects, research/teaching experience, and publications in standard journals.

CGPA Conversion: Where universities award CGPA/OGPA on a 10-point scale, 6.75 = 60%, 6.25 = 55%, 5.75 = 50%. Where CGPA is on a scale other than 10, it will be normalized to a 10-point scale first.

Examination Structure and Syllabus - RBI Officer Grade B 2026

Selection Process

Selection is through Phase-I Examination, Phase-II Examination, and Interview for all three cadres. The final merit list is based on performance in Phase-II and Interview combined.

Scheme of Selection - General Cadre

Phase-I Online Examination (13 June 2026)

Candidates must secure minimum marks separately for each section and in aggregate. Based on Phase-I scores, candidates are shortlisted for Phase-II. Scores are normalized using the EquiPercentile Method if exam is held in multiple shifts.

Phase-II Online Examination (25 July 2026)

For Paper-I and Paper-III Objective section: 30 questions for 50 marks. For Descriptive section: 6 questions asked, candidates must attempt 4 (2 of 15 marks and 2 of 10 marks). Papers are bilingual (Hindi and English) except the English paper. Candidates must appear in ALL papers in ALL shifts.

Interview

Candidates shortlisted based on Phase-II aggregate marks will be called for Interview of 75 marks. A Personality Assessment (no marks, not part of final selection) will also be conducted by the Bank before the interview. Final selection is based on Phase-II marks + Interview marks + grace marks as per extant rules.

Phase-II Syllabus - General Cadre

Paper-I: Economic and Social Issues (ESI) covers Growth and Development (National Income, Poverty Alleviation, Sustainable Development), Indian Economy (Economic History, Monetary and Fiscal Policy post-1991, RBI's role, Public Finance, Agriculture, Services), Globalization (Balance of Payments, Export-Import Policy, IMF, World Bank, WTO, Regional Cooperation), and Social Structure in India (Multiculturalism, Demographic Trends, Urbanisation, Gender Issues, Social Justice).

Paper-II: English (Writing Skills) assesses writing skills, expression, and understanding of the topic.

Paper-III: General Finance and Management covers Financial System (structure of financial institutions, RBI functions, Banking System, Digital Payments), Financial Markets (Primary and Secondary Markets - Forex, Money, Bond, Equity), General Topics (Financial Risk Management, Derivatives, Financial Inclusion, Corporate Governance, Union Budget, Accounting Basics, Inflation), and Management (Fundamentals of Management, Organizational Behaviour, Leadership, Ethics at Workplace, Corporate Governance, Communication).

Scheme of Selection - DEPR Cadre

Phase-I Paper-I covers Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics, Economic Growth and Development, Public Finance, Environmental Economics, Quantitative Methods, and Current developments in Indian Economy. Phase-II covers advanced Micro and Macroeconomics modules (equal weightage), and Quantitative Methods in Economics along with Indian Economy Policy and Trends.

Scheme of Selection - DSIM Cadre

DSIM syllabus covers Theory of Probability and Sampling, Linear Models and Economic Statistics, Statistical Inference, Stochastic Processes, Multivariate Analysis, Econometrics and Time Series, Optimization and Statistical Computing, Data Science/AI/Machine Learning Techniques, and Database and Data Warehouse Management.

Pay Scale and Service Conditions - RBI Grade B Officer 2026

Additional perquisites include Bank accommodation (subject to availability), vehicle maintenance reimbursement, Knowledge Updation Allowance, telephone charges, residence furnishing allowance, free dispensary facility, medical reimbursement, interest-free festival advance, Leave Fare Concession (once in 2 years for self, spouse, and dependents), and loans at concessional rates for housing, vehicle, education, and personal use.

For candidates with very high academic qualifications or special experience of significant value, the Board may consider granting up to 4 advance increments at its sole discretion at the Interview stage only.

Pre-Examination Training - RBI Grade B 2026

The Reserve Bank of India will arrange free of cost pre-examination training for Phase-I and Phase-II (for those who clear Phase-I) for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates appearing for the Grade B (DR) - General cadre only, in online mode. Candidates who wish to avail of this facility must apply by email to the Regional Director/General Manager of any convenient RBI office on or before 20 May 2026. Note that undergoing training does not guarantee a call letter for the examination or recruitment.

How to Apply for RBI Officer Grade B Recruitment 2026

1. Visit the official RBI website at rbi.org.in and navigate to Opportunities@RBI > Current Vacancies > Vacancies. Click on the advertisement for Officers in Grade B (DR) (General/DEPR/DSIM) - Panel Year 2026.
2. Click on the 'Online Application Form' hyperlink in the advertisement page. Choose 'Click here for New Registration' and enter your Name, Contact details, and Email ID to get a Provisional Registration Number and Password via SMS and email.
3. Before filling the form, scan and keep ready your passport-size photograph (4.5cm x 3.5cm, 20-50 KB, JPG/JPEG), signature with black ink (140x60 pixels, 10-20 KB), left thumb impression on white paper (20-50 KB), and a handwritten declaration in English on white paper with black ink (50-100 KB).

6. Click on the Preview Tab to review the entire application. If all details are correct, click 'Final Submit'. After this, no changes can be made except via the Edit Window (available for 2 days after closing date, with a correction fee of Rs. 200 inclusive of GST).
7. Click on the 'Payment' tab and pay the requisite application fee online through Debit Cards (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard), Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, UPI, or Mobile Wallets. Take a printout of the e-Receipt and the completed application form for your records.

Important Points for Applying:

• Candidates can apply for both Grade B (DR) - General AND either DEPR or DSIM by submitting separate applications with separate fees. However, DEPR and DSIM applications cannot be submitted simultaneously.
• If multiple applications are submitted, only the one with the highest Registration ID (RID) will be considered, provided it is complete in all respects.
• Government/PSU employees must inform their employer in writing before submitting the application and submit an undertaking at the time of online application.
• The handwritten declaration must be in the candidate's own handwriting in English only. Typed declarations (except for visually impaired candidates) will be rejected.
• Candidates applying from other states for reserved category posts: OBC certificate must be based on the father's state of origin. Candidates must ensure their caste/community name matches exactly as in the Central Government's notified lists.
• All documents/certificates will be verified only at the Interview stage.

Examination Centres

Phase-I exam for Grade B General cadre will be conducted across a large number of centres in all States/UTs including Patna, Lucknow, Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Guwahati, Jaipur, and many more cities. Phase-II centres are fewer - about 30+ selected cities. DEPR/DSIM Phase-I and Phase-II centres are the same as Phase-II centres for General cadre.

Candidates can select up to four preferred exam centres for Phase-I and Phase-II separately in the online application. However, the Board reserves the right to allot any centre. No request for change of centre will be entertained once allotted.
