About the Recruitment

Punjab National Bank invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for the post of Local Bank Officer, a state-specific officer role in JMGS-I grade carrying a pay scale of Rs. 48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920. In addition to basic pay, selected candidates will be entitled to Dearness Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, HRA or Leased Accommodation, Leave Fare Concession, Medical Insurance, Retirement Benefits and other perquisites as per Bank rules. This is a state-linked posting: candidates apply for one state only and, once selected, will remain posted within that state until completion of nine years of service or promotion to SMG Scale IV, whichever is earlier.

State-Wise Vacancy Details

The 545 vacancies are distributed across the following states and union territories, each requiring proficiency in the specified local language.

Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), which includes Orthopedically Challenged (OC), Hearing Impaired (HI), Visually Impaired (VI) and Intellectual Disability (ID) categories, is horizontal and adjusted within the SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR category to which the candidate belongs. The number of vacancies, including reserved-category vacancies, is provisional and may change according to the Bank's actual requirements. Candidates belonging to a reserved category for which no vacancy has been announced in a particular state may apply against the Unreserved vacancies of that state, subject to fulfilling UR eligibility norms.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

An applicant must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or certain East African and other listed countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates in the latter categories must hold a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India before the date of this notification, and must also be proficient in the local language of the state applied for.

Age and Educational Qualification

Local Language

Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking the specified local language of the state for which they are applying, as listed in the state-wise vacancy table. This proficiency will be assessed through a Local Language Proficiency Test conducted by an external agency, unless the candidate has studied the language as a subject in 10th or 12th standard.

Work Experience

Candidates must possess a minimum of one year of post-qualification work experience in Clerical or Officer cadre in any Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank listed in the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934. Candidates who have worked as an Officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank in a role similar to a Scale-I Generalist Officer of PNB are eligible for one advance increment per completed year of service, up to a maximum of two increments; those from subsidiaries of Scheduled Commercial Banks are eligible for only one advance increment. No prior service or experience is considered for seniority purposes.

Cut-Off Dates

• Age is determined as on 01.07.2026.
• Eligibility for mandatory work experience and educational qualification is reckoned as on the closing date for online registration, i.e. 09.08.2026.
• The result of the qualifying degree must have been declared on or before 09.08.2026.

Age Relaxation

The maximum age limit is applicable as-is to Unreserved and EWS candidates. Relaxation to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates is allowed cumulatively with only one of the remaining relaxation categories listed above.

Application Fee

The application fee must be paid only through online mode. Bank transaction charges for online payment will have to be borne by the candidate, and the fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be reserved for any other examination.

Selection Process

Selection for the post of Local Bank Officer will be conducted in four phases: Online Written Test, Screening, Local Language Proficiency Test, and Personal Interview. The Bank reserves the right to decide whether all or any of these stages are adopted.

Online Written Test

There will be negative marking of one-fourth mark for each wrong answer. Candidates must score minimum qualifying marks of 40% for General/EWS category and 35% for Reserved category in each section, though the Bank reserves the right to revise this at its discretion.

Screening and Local Language Proficiency Test

The applications and documents of written-test-qualified candidates will be scrutinised to verify eligibility. Candidates who have not studied the specified local language as a subject in 10th or 12th standard must appear for a Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT), which assesses reading, writing and speaking proficiency and is of qualifying nature. Candidates who do not clear the LLPT will be treated as ineligible for final selection regardless of their performance in other stages.

Personal Interview and Final Selection

All candidates shortlisted after the written test, including those exempted from or required to appear in the LLPT, will be called for a Personal Interview of 50 marks. The minimum qualifying marks in the interview are 45% (22.50 marks) for SC/ST candidates and 50% (25 marks) for other candidates. Final selection is based on the combined performance in the Online Written Test and Personal Interview, subject to qualifying in the LLPT where applicable. The merit list is prepared state-wise and category-wise, and ties are resolved by date of birth, with the elder candidate ranked higher.

How to Apply

Candidates can apply only online from 20.07.2026 to 09.08.2026 through the Bank's website. No other mode of application will be accepted.

1. Visit the official PNB website pnb.bank.in and go to the Recruitment or Careers section to find the Local Bank Officer notification.
2. Click on CLICK HERE FOR NEW REGISTRATION and enter basic details to generate a provisional registration number and password.
3. Log in again using the registration number and password, and fill in personal, educational, category and state-specific details in the online application form.
4. Scan and upload photograph, signature, left hand thumb impression, hand-written declaration, and other required documents as per the specified format and file size.
5. Pay the requisite application fee online using debit card, credit card, internet banking, IMPS or UPI, and verify that an e-receipt is generated.
6. Review all entered details carefully, since no change is allowed after clicking Complete Registration, and take a printout of the submitted application form and e-receipt for future reference.

Not more than one application should be submitted by a candidate; in case of multiple applications, only the latest valid and completed application will be retained, and fees paid for other registrations will be forfeited.

Documents Required at Interview

Candidates must produce the following documents in original along with a self-attested photocopy at the time of interview, failing which they may not be permitted to appear.

• Printout of the valid Interview Call Letter and the system-generated Online Application form
• Proof of Date of Birth (Birth Certificate or SSLC/Std. X Certificate with DOB)
• Photo Identity Proof and Address Proof
• Semester-wise/year-wise mark sheets and the final degree/diploma certificate
• Income and Asset Certificate for EWS candidates, valid on the date of registration
• Caste Certificate for SC/ST/OBC candidates, with the OBC certificate containing a non-creamy layer clause
• Disability Certificate in the prescribed format for PwBD category candidates
• Discharge/Service documents for Ex-Servicemen, and No Objection Certificate for candidates currently employed in Government/PSU roles
• Experience Certificate and supporting documents such as appointment letter, salary slip and relieving letter

Other Important Conditions

Selected candidates will be designated as Local Bank Officer and placed on probation for two years from the date of joining. They will be required to execute an Indemnity Bond to serve the Bank for at least three years, or pay Rs. 2,00,000 if they leave before completing three years of active service. Candidates must maintain a healthy credit history and have a minimum CIBIL score of 680 or above at the time of joining, though this is not a pre-condition to apply and does not apply to candidates with no bank account. After induction training, LBOs will be deployed within the Circles of the state for which they were selected, and will remain posted in that state until completion of nine years of service or promotion to SMG Scale IV, whichever is earlier.
