Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

• BE / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engineering) / 5-year Integrated M.Tech with minimum 60% aggregate marks in one of the six advertised engineering disciplines.
• Degree must be from a University / Deemed University / Institution recognized by AICTE / UGC.
• Candidates must have a valid GATE 2024, GATE 2025, or GATE 2026 score in the same engineering discipline as the qualifying degree.
• Only regular full-time on-campus degrees are considered. Degrees obtained through correspondence, distance learning, part-time, or research mode are not eligible.
• Candidates appearing in the final year / semester examination during 2026 may also apply. If selected, they must submit the final result showing 60% or more marks on or before 30 November 2026.

• General / EWS: Maximum 26 years (born on or after 30.04.2000)
• OBC (NCL): Maximum 29 years — 3 years relaxation (born on or after 30.04.1997)
• SC / ST: Maximum 31 years — 5 years relaxation (born on or after 30.04.1995)
• PwBD — General / EWS: Maximum 36 years (born on or after 30.04.1990)
• PwBD — OBC (NCL): Maximum 39 years (born on or after 30.04.1987)

Selection Process

• Step 1 — GATE Score Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted for personal interview in a 1:12 ratio based on valid GATE 2024 / 2025 / 2026 scores. Equal weightage is given to scores from all three years. GATE 2023 or earlier scores are not valid.
• Step 2 — Personal Interview: Final selection is based on performance in the personal interview. GATE score carries no weightage during the interview stage.
• Qualifying Marks for Interview: Unreserved — 70%; EWS / SC / ST / OBC (NCL) / PwBD — 60%.
• Medical Fitness: Selected candidates must be declared medically fit by the Authorised Medical Officer of NPCIL.
• Tie-breaking: In case of equal interview marks, the candidate with a higher GATE score ranks higher. If both are equal, the older candidate takes precedence.

Stipend During Training and Pay After Appointment

• Monthly Stipend: Rs. 74,000/- during the one-year training period.
• One-time Book Allowance: Rs. 30,000/-
• Lodging and Boarding: Provided by NPCIL during training.
• Post-Training Pay: After successful completion of training, candidates are appointed as Scientific Officer/C (Group A) at Pay Level 10 with basic pay of Rs. 56,100/- plus DA at 58% (as on 01.07.2025) and other allowances.

Bond Requirement

Selected candidates must execute a personal indemnity bond of Rs. 9,18,000/- and serve NPCIL for at least three years after completing the training. No third-party surety is required. The bond amount covers 12 months of stipend (Rs. 74,000 x 12) plus one-time book allowance (Rs. 30,000).

Training Details

• Duration: One year, full-time orientation training at a Nuclear Training Centre (NTC) of NPCIL.
• PHWR Stream: Training at any NTC site of NPCIL across India.
• LWR Stream: Training at NTC located at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), Nagarcoil, Tamil Nadu.
• Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, and Instrumentation candidates must indicate their preferred reactor stream in the online application. Civil discipline candidates do not need to indicate a reactor stream.
