Important Dates

Event Date
Notice Date 10 September 2026
Online Application Starts 10:00 AM on 20 September 2026
Online Application Ends 5 PM on 20 October 2026
CBT Schedule and Venue To be notified separately on the Institute website

Because the window is a single month and the form needs a PDF of documents, a photograph and an online fee payment, the notice itself advises candidates to apply early and avoid last minute rush. The Institute also keeps the right to extend the closing date, and any such change will appear only on its website.

Vacancy Details

The 51 posts are spread unevenly. Technician is the largest single cadre with 14 posts, followed by Senior Technician with 9 and Lab Attendant with 8. Pharmacist has just one post and SAS Assistant has two, so competition in those cadres will be narrow in count but sharp in terms of the specific qualification asked for. The table below reproduces the category-wise break-up from the notice.

Code Post Name Pay Level (7th CPC) Max Age UR SC ST OBC-NCL EWS Total
1 Technical Assistant PL-6 30 Years 4 1 0 2 0 7
2 Junior Engineer (Civil/Electrical) PL-6 30 Years 3 1 0 1 0 5
3 Library and Information Assistant PL-6 30 Years 4 0 0 1 0 5
4 SAS Assistant PL-6 30 Years 2 0 0 0 0 2
5 Pharmacist PL-5 27 Years 1 0 0 0 0 1
6 Senior Technician PL-4 33 Years 4 1 3 0 1 9
7 Technician PL-3 27 Years 6 2 5 0 1 14
8 Lab Attendant PL-1 27 Years 3 2 2 0 1 8
  Grand Total     27 7 10 4 3 51

The category columns add up correctly to 27 UR, 7 SC, 10 ST, 4 OBC-NCL and 3 EWS. Reservation for PwD and Ex-Servicemen will be provided as per the extant Government of India rules. Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, OBC-NCL) who apply against UR vacancies get no relaxation in age, qualifying marks or any other concession, and a candidate who uses an age relaxation to become eligible is considered only against the reserved vacancies of their own category, even with merit high enough for the UR list.

Tentative Department-Wise Distribution

Annexure C gives an indicative discipline-wise split for four of the cadres. Disciplines matter here because Technical Assistant, Technician and Senior Technician candidates choose a Part II group based on their own branch.

Post Discipline Posts

The notice describes this distribution as tentative and indicative, and its own numbering in the annexure does not line up with the post codes in the main table, so confirm the final position from the official notification. No discipline split is given for Library and Information Assistant, SAS Assistant, Pharmacist or Lab Attendant.

Eligibility Criteria

The qualification and experience for every post follow the Recruitment Rules (2019) for non-teaching staff in NITs, as notified by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The notice asks candidates to check the specialization and the relevant trade, field or subject before applying, since a degree in the wrong stream will not count.

Lab Attendant Senior Secondary (10+2) in Science from a recognized board.

How Marks Are Counted

For posts that need a First Class degree or diploma, the rule is spelled out in detail. Where the certificate or marksheet does not mention First Class or Division, the candidate must have passed with at least 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale or 60% marks in aggregate, awarded by a recognized University or Institute. Only the primary mode of evaluation printed on the certificate is used, and if both CGPA and percentage appear, only CGPA is considered. Conversion from CGPA to percentage or the reverse, even if the university offers one, is not allowed, and a CGPA on any scale other than 10 points is linearly mapped to a 10-point scale.

Regular staff of NIT Agartala who were appointed before the Recruitment Rules were implemented in NITs, including the Model RRs (2012), can take part in the selection irrespective of age and percentage of marks, provided they are otherwise eligible.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Post Maximum Age (Unreserved)
Senior Technician 33 Years
Technical Assistant, Junior Engineer, Library and Information Assistant, SAS Assistant 30 Years
Pharmacist, Technician, Lab Attendant 27 Years

The minimum age for all posts is 18 years, and the maximum age mentioned applies to unreserved vacancies. Age relaxation is given to SC, ST, OBC, PwD, Ex-Servicemen and departmental candidates as per Government of India norms, and the notice says cumulative relaxation will be extended to all eligible applicants as on the last date of online application. Age is counted as on the closing date of the online application.

Special Relaxations Mentioned

  • Departmental candidates: Those serving in State or Central Government, PSUs, Autonomous Bodies, Universities or Government Educational Institutions on regular employment, with at least 3 years of continuous service, get 5 years of relaxation, subject to a No Objection Certificate from the competent authority at the time of Document Verification.
  • Existing NIT Agartala staff: A one-time relaxation up to 56 years applies to non-teaching staff working on ad-hoc, temporary, contractual or outsource basis at NIT Agartala, and they must upload documents showing their association with the Institute, failing which the relaxation will be rejected.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Candidates seeking age relaxation must upload a self-attested copy of a valid Discharge or Service Certificate.

Selection Process

Selection is a single-stage affair. Under the DoPT memorandum dated 29 December 2015, no interview is conducted for Group B or Group C posts, so every advertised post is filled through a Computer Based Test. The schedule, venue and other details of the CBT will be announced separately on the Institute website, and the final merit list will be prepared solely on CBT marks, subject to qualifying the prescribed skill test wherever applicable.

Tie-Breaking Principle

  • Candidates with equal marks are ranked by marks scored in Part A.
  • If the tie remains, the candidate born earlier according to the Matriculation Certificate is placed higher.
  • If a tie still persists, it is resolved at the discretion of the Institute.

Selected candidates are placed on probation for one year and are confirmed after satisfactory completion of probation and the other requirements. Appointments are also subject to verification of academic qualifications, experience, conduct and community certificates, followed by a medical examination before the District Medical Board and police verification.

Exam Pattern

Each post has its own paper, although the structure is almost the same: a 100-mark MCQ-based written exam, normally split into a 20-mark general section and an 80-mark subject section. Technician is the exception with a 40:60 split, and Lab Attendant has one combined part that adds computer knowledge. The notice does not mention negative marking, so read the admit card instructions when they are released.

Visually impaired candidates and candidates whose writing speed is permanently affected can use their own scribe at their own cost, and must indicate this in the online application. The scribe cannot be a candidate for the same examination, should not hold a qualification beyond that of the candidate, and cannot answer on their own, otherwise both candidatures are cancelled. Candidates using a scribe, and candidates with locomotor disability and cerebral palsy affecting the writing hand (minimum 40% impairment), get compensatory time of 20 minutes for every hour. Visually impaired candidates with at least 40% disability may also opt for magnified font, though not together with a scribe. For benchmark disabilities, a scribe is allowed on production of a certificate from the Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon or Medical Superintendent of a Government health care institution, and the candidate submits scribe details in the prescribed format.
