Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or specified East African countries and Vietnam with the intention of settling in India. Candidates in every category except citizens of India need a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification As On 01 October 2026

Candidates must hold the certificate of the qualifying examination as on 01 October 2026. Every discipline needs at least 60 percent marks in either degree examination, relaxed to 55 percent for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. The degree must come from a university recognised by the UGC or an institute approved by AICTE.

Discipline Minimum Qualification
Finance (CA and CMA) Chartered Accountant (ICAI) or Cost and Management Accountant, together with a graduation or post graduation in any discipline
Legal Graduate or Post Graduate in Law
Information Technology BE, BTech, ME or MTech in Computer Science or Information Technology, or MCA
Automobile Engineers BE, BTech, ME or MTech in Automobile Engineering, or in any branch of Engineering together with a Diploma of at least one year in Automobile Engineering
Risk Engineers Engineering graduation or post graduation in any discipline other than those listed for Information Technology and Automobile Engineers
Company Secretaries ACS or FCS from ICSI, together with a graduation or post graduation in any discipline
Agriculture 4-year Graduate or Post Graduate in Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology or Agricultural Engineering
Generalist Officers Graduate or Post Graduate in any stream

The percentage is worked out by dividing total marks obtained in all subjects of all semesters or years by the aggregate maximum marks, and any fraction is ignored, so 59.99 percent is treated as below 60 percent. Where CGPA or OGPA is awarded, a certificate from the university stating the conversion norms has to be produced. The date on the mark sheet or provisional certificate is taken as the date of passing.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 21 years and the maximum is 30 years as on 01 October 2026. In practice, only candidates born between 02 October 1996 and 01 October 2005, both dates included, can apply. The upper age limit is relaxed as shown below.

Category Age Relaxation

A candidate eligible for relaxation under more than one category gets it on a cumulative basis, but the age cannot exceed 45 years. The notification also states that there is no reservation for Ex-Servicemen in the Officer cadre.

The starting basic pay is Rs. 82,485 in the scale of 82485-4050(14)-139185-4390(4)-156745, along with other allowances admissible under company rules. The notification puts total emoluments at about Rs. 1,14,000 per month in metropolitan centres. Other benefits include the New Pension Scheme governed by PFRDA, gratuity, leave travel concession, medical benefits and group personal accident insurance, and officers are entitled to company or leased accommodation as per norms.

Application Fee

Category Fee
SC, ST and PwBD Rs. 250 (intimation charges only plus GST)
All candidates other than SC, ST and PwBD Rs. 1000 (application fee including intimation charges and GST)

The fee can be paid online from 08 October 2026 to 28 October 2026. It is non-refundable, cannot be adjusted against any future recruitment, and any bank transaction charges are to be borne by the candidate.

Selection Process

Selection is based on two online exam phases followed by an interview. Both exams use objective questions with negative marking: one-fourth of the marks for a question is deducted for each wrong answer, while an unanswered question carries no penalty. Candidates must also clear the passing marks in each section, which the company will decide.

Phase I Preliminary Examination

The preliminary exam is common to all disciplines. It carries 100 marks, runs for 60 minutes, and each section is separately timed. Roughly 15 times the number of vacancies, subject to availability, will be shortlisted for the main exam in each category.

Section Questions Marks Time Medium
English Language 30 30 20 minutes English
Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 minutes English and Hindi
Quantitative Aptitude 35 35 20 minutes English and Hindi
Total 100 100 60 minutes

Phase II Main Examination

The main exam has an objective test of 250 marks lasting 3 hours, followed immediately by a descriptive test of 30 marks. Generalists face five sections, while Specialists face six because of an added test on their own discipline.

Objective test for Generalists

Section Questions Marks Time Medium
Test of Reasoning 50 50 40 minutes English and Hindi
Test of General Awareness 50 50 30 minutes English and Hindi
Test of Quantitative Aptitude 50 50 40 minutes English and Hindi
Test of English Language 50 50 40 minutes English
Test of Computer Knowledge 50 50 30 minutes English and Hindi
Total 250 250 180 minutes

Objective test for Specialists

Section Questions Marks Time Medium
Test of Reasoning 40 40 35 minutes English and Hindi
Test of General Awareness 40 40 20 minutes English and Hindi
Test of Quantitative Aptitude 40 40 35 minutes English and Hindi
Test of English Language 40 40 30 minutes English
Test of Computer Knowledge 40 40 25 minutes English and Hindi
Technical and professional knowledge of the relevant discipline 50 50 35 minutes English and Hindi
Total 250 250 180 minutes

The descriptive test is a 30-minute English paper worth 30 marks, with an essay, a precis and a comprehension of 10 marks each. It is typed on the computer. It is qualifying in nature, and its marks are not counted for the interview shortlist or the final selection. It is evaluated only for candidates who clear the sectional minimums in the objective test.

Interview And Final Merit

Candidates shortlisted on main exam performance are called for an interview at select centres. The final score combines the main exam objective marks and the interview marks in an 80:20 ratio. A minimum qualifying score in the interview is also required. If two candidates have the same score, the one with higher interview marks ranks first, and if those are equal, the older candidate is placed higher. A waiting list of up to 50 percent of the vacancies may be prepared, and appointment depends on medical fitness.

Probation, Bond And Service Conditions

This part of the notification matters as much as the exam pattern, because it sets the commitments an officer takes on at joining.

  • Probation: One year from the date of joining, which can be extended twice by six months at a time, stretching up to one year in all.
  • Licentiate Examination: Officers must pass the non-life Licentiate Examination conducted by the Insurance Institute of India during probation. Confirmation depends on passing it, and failure within the extended probation period can lead to termination.
  • Guarantee bond: A minimum service period of four years including probation. Resigning earlier means paying liquidated damages equal to one year of gross salary paid during the year of probation, reduced in proportion to service rendered, plus a stamped bond with two sureties who are not blood relatives.
  • Exit during probation: A candidate who resigns or is terminated during probation must repay the gross salary received during the entire service, along with Rs. 25,000 towards partial cost of training.
  • Employer clearance: Candidates working in government, quasi-government, PSU, nationalised bank or financial institution jobs must inform their employer and bring a No Objection Certificate at the interview.

Exam Centres And Exam Day Rules

Phase I will be held at provisional centres spread across the East, North, South and West zones, covering most states and union territories. Phase II has a smaller set of provisional centres, such as Kolkata, Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Patna, among others. Once a candidate chooses a centre, the choice is final, no change in centre, date or session is entertained, and the company can allot a different centre if needed.

  • Carry the valid call letter, an original photo identity proof with the same name as on the call letter, and a photocopy of that proof.
  • Ration card and learner driving licence are not accepted as identity proof.
  • Candidates who report after the time on the call letter are not allowed to take the exam.
  • Thumb impression, iris scan and photograph are captured on the day of the Phase II exam and verified later.
  • Mobile phones, smart watches, calculators, earphones, metallic items and written material are not allowed inside the centre.
  • Call letters for Phase I, Phase II and the interview are downloaded separately from the company website.
