Eligibility Criteria: NDA 2 2026

Nationality

A candidate must be unmarried male or female and must be:

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates from categories (ii) and (iii) require a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India. Gorkha subjects of Nepal do not need such a certificate.

Age Limit for NDA 2 2026

The date of birth must be as recorded in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate. No other document such as horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts, or service records will be accepted for age determination.

Important: Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete their full training. A candidate who marries after applying but before completing training will not be selected. A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and liable to refund all Government expenditure incurred.

Educational Qualification

• Candidates currently appearing in 12th class are also eligible to apply.
• Candidates studying in 11th class are not eligible.
• Those who qualify SSB but are still awaiting 12th class results must submit proof of passing by 10 June 2027.
• Candidates who have previously failed CPSS/PABT are now eligible for Air Force Ground Duty branches only (not Flying branch).

Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit as per the guidelines given in Appendix-III of the official notification. Candidates are advised to get themselves medically examined before applying, as a number of qualified candidates are rejected on medical grounds at a later stage. Common defects that should be rectified include wax in ears, deviated nasal septum, overweight/underweight, undersized chest, and tonsillitis.

Tattoo Policy: Permanent body tattoos are permitted only on the inner face of the forearm (inside of elbow to wrist) and on the back of the palm. Tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable.

Written Examination Scheme

All papers consist of objective type (MCQ) questions only. Paper-I Mathematics and Part B of Paper-II will be set bilingually in Hindi and English. Calculators and mathematical tables are not permitted.

Negative Marking

There will be negative marking for wrong answers. One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer. If more than one answer is marked for a question, it will be treated as a wrong answer. No penalty for unattempted questions.

Paper-I: Mathematics (300 Marks)

The Mathematics paper covers the following topics:

• Algebra: Sets, Venn diagrams, complex numbers, binary system, progressions, quadratic equations, permutation and combination, binomial theorem, logarithms
• Matrices and Determinants: Types, operations, determinant properties, inverse, Cramer's rule, matrix method
• Trigonometry: Ratios, identities, sum and difference formulae, inverse trigonometric functions, height and distance
• Analytical Geometry (2D and 3D): Coordinate system, lines, circles, conics, sphere, planes
• Differential Calculus: Limits, continuity, derivatives, maxima and minima
• Integral Calculus and Differential Equations: Integration, definite integrals, areas, differential equations
• Vector Algebra: Vectors in 2D and 3D, dot product, cross product
• Statistics and Probability: Frequency distribution, measures of central tendency, variance, correlation, probability theorems, binomial distribution

Paper-II: General Ability Test (600 Marks)

Covers Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension, and cohesion in extended text to test proficiency in English.

Selection Process: NDA 2 2026

Stage 1: Written Examination by UPSC

UPSC will prepare a list of candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written examination. Qualified candidates will be called for SSB interview. The written result is expected in October 2026.

Stage 2: SSB Intelligence and Personality Test

The SSB procedure involves two stages:

• Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT). Only candidates who clear Stage I are admitted to Stage II.
• Stage II: Interview, Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks, Psychology Tests and Conference, conducted over 4 days.

The personality of a candidate is assessed by three assessors — Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO), and Psychologist. All three have equal weightage. SSB interviews for qualified candidates are likely from December 2026 to January 2027.

CPSS for Air Force Flying Branch

Candidates who opt for Air Force Flying Branch must qualify the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) if they clear the SSB. CPSS is conducted only once. Those who fail CPSS or are categorized as Habitual Wearers of Glasses (HWG) can be considered for Air Force Ground Duty branches.

Tie-Breaking Principles

In case of equal marks, the tie will be resolved in the following order:

• Candidate with higher written total will be ranked higher
• If still equal, candidate with higher marks in Paper-II (General Ability Test) will be ranked higher
• If still equal, the older candidate (senior in age) will be ranked higher
• If still equal, Commission will resolve at its discretion

Medical Examination

Candidates recommended by the SSB will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers. Only those declared fit by the Medical Board will be admitted to the Academy. Candidates declared unfit can appeal through the Appeal Medical Board procedure.

The NDA 2 2026 exam will be held at 86 centres across India. Allotment of centres is on a first-apply-first-allot basis (except Chennai, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur which have no ceiling). Training Details

Selected candidates for Army, Navy and Air Force receive preliminary academic and physical training for 3 years at the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune. The training during the first 2.5 years is common to all three wings. On passing out, cadets will be awarded degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as follows:

• Army Cadets: B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Computer) / B.A.
• Naval Cadets: B.Tech Degree (awarded at subsequent training academy)
• Air Force Cadets: B.Tech Degree / B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Computer)

Selected candidates for Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme) will undergo 4 years training at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala and will be awarded a B.Tech Degree on successful completion.

1. Visit the UPSC online application portal at upsconline.nic.in and create your account if you are a new user.
2. Complete the Universal Registration Number (URN) profile with your personal details, date of birth, and photo ID details. The URN is registered only once in a lifetime.
3. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF) including uploading your photograph and capturing a live photo as required.
4. Sign on plain white paper three times with black ink and upload the signature as directed in the instructions.
