Application Fee

Since this is a departmental limited recruitment, there is no fee concession for any category. All applicants, irrespective of category, must pay an examination fee of Rs 2000 for the two papers. On top of this, MP Online charges a portal fee of Rs 60 if the form is submitted through an authorised kiosk, or Rs 20 if the candidate logs in and submits it directly as a registered citizen user. If a candidate later corrects the application form, an additional correction charge of Rs 20 (or Rs 40 through a kiosk) applies for each correction.

Vacancy Details

The 73 Nayab Tehsildar posts are divided between two feeder cadres of the Revenue Department: the clerical cadre and the Patwari or Revenue Inspector cadre. Each cadre has its own direct recruitment quota and backlog quota, filled category-wise as shown below.

Clerical Cadre Vacancies (46 Posts)

Of the 32 direct clerical cadre posts, 1 post is reserved for persons with locomotor disability (LD category), within the existing category-wise vacancies.

Patwari or Revenue Inspector Cadre Vacancies (27 Posts)

Eligibility Criteria

Only the following Revenue Department employees are eligible to apply for this scheme:

• Employees who have worked, on a regular or officiating basis, in a clerical post, or as a Patwari or Revenue Inspector, in the Revenue Department for at least 5 years.
• Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Arts, Science (including Technical and Engineering), Commerce or Agriculture from a recognised university.
• As this is a departmental exam for currently working employees, a domicile certificate is not required.
• A candidate cannot appear in this departmental exam more than 3 times.
• Minimum educational qualifications must be completed on the date of filling the application; qualifications acquired after the application date will not be considered.

Selected candidates will not be appointed as Nayab Tehsildar if, at the time of selection, a departmental inquiry with a charge-sheet is pending against them, an adverse remark appears in their annual confidential report for any of the last 5 years, a criminal case is pending in a court or before an authority, or a penalty has been imposed on them within the preceding 5 years.

Age Limit

As on 1 January 2026, a candidate's age should not exceed 55 years to be eligible for this limited departmental competitive examination.

Pay Scale

The Nayab Tehsildar post carries Level 9 of the Madhya Pradesh Pay Revision Rules 2017, with a starting basic pay of Rs 36,200 plus dearness allowance (equivalent to the earlier 6th Pay Commission Pay Band of Rs 9,300 to Rs 34,800 with Grade Pay Rs 3,600).

Selection Process

Selection is based purely on the written examination score; there is no interview. Candidates must secure at least 55 percent marks in the exam, while Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates need a minimum of 40 percent marks. Where the exam is held in more than one shift, MPESB will normalise scores using a percentile-based method before preparing the merit list. In case of a tie, the candidate with the higher proportionate marks, and then the older candidate by date of birth, will be given preference in seniority.

Selected candidates will be appointed on 2 years' probation and sent for prescribed training. Educational and other documents submitted with the application will be verified by the office of the Principal Revenue Commissioner, and eligibility will be treated as provisional until this verification is complete.

Exam Pattern

The written exam consists of two objective-type papers, both of 100 marks and 2 hours' duration, to be held on the same day.

Every correct answer earns 1 mark, and 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. Questions are set in both Hindi and English, with the Hindi version treated as standard in case of any translation difference, except for questions from science and technical subjects, where the English version is treated as standard.

How to Apply

1. Read the rule book and eligibility conditions on the MPESB website carefully before starting the form, since corrections after the deadline are not allowed.
2. Open the online application through the MP Online portal and select the ESB link for this recruitment.
3. Fill in personal, educational and employment details, including your employee code, Aadhaar number, and the details of your original appointment order.
4. Upload a color photograph, signature, a handwritten declaration, and scanned copies of category, disability and appointment order documents as applicable.
5. Pay the examination fee of Rs 2000 plus the applicable MP Online portal charge through a kiosk, debit or credit card, or net banking.
6. Submit the form, note down the application number, and keep a printed copy of the application and fee receipt safely.
7. Download the admit card from the MPESB website closer to the exam date using the application number and password.

Documents Required

• A recent color photograph, signature and a sample of the candidate's own handwriting, scanned as per the specified format.
• 8th, 10th or 12th class mark sheet as proof of date of birth.
• Caste or category certificate issued by a competent authority for SC, ST, OBC or EWS candidates.
• Disability certificate issued by a competent authority, for candidates applying under the disability quota.
• A scanned copy of the candidate's original appointment order, along with the order number, date and current place of posting entered in the form.
• A handwritten declaration, in the candidate's own hand, stating that all information given in the application is true, and that the candidacy can be cancelled if any information is found false or unsatisfactory.
• Aadhaar card number or Aadhaar VID, which is mandatory for registration and biometric verification at the exam centre.

General Rules

• Electronic devices such as mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches and Bluetooth devices are strictly prohibited inside the exam hall.
• Candidates must carry the downloaded admit card and an original photo identity document such as a voter ID, PAN card, Aadhaar card, driving licence or passport; a printed e-Aadhaar is valid only after UIDAI verification.
• Candidates reporting after the specified reporting time will not be allowed to enter the exam centre.
• The exam will be held at centres in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain, based on the preferences given by candidates and seat availability; the Board's decision on centre allotment is final.
• There is no provision for re-checking or re-evaluation once the result is declared.
• Appointment orders for selected candidates are to be issued within 3 months of the merit list being released, and the merit list itself remains valid for 1 year from the date it is issued.
