Selection Process

Selection to both posts is made in two phases.

Phase 1: Online Written Exam

The first phase is an online multiple-choice exam conducted by MP ESB in the Hindi language, carrying 100 marks for 100 questions to be attempted in 2 hours. One mark is awarded for each correct answer, and there is no negative marking for unattempted or wrong answers. The question paper covers three sections: General Knowledge and Reasoning (40 marks), Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude (30 marks), and Science and Simple Arithmetic (30 marks). Based on the percentile scored in this exam, candidates equal to seven times the number of vacancies in each vertical category will be shortlisted for Phase 2, with all candidates scoring at or above the cutoff percentile getting a call regardless of the final count.

Phase 2: Document Verification and Practical Test

Shortlisted candidates undergo document verification and a practical skill test conducted by a selection committee formed by the Police Headquarters at the exam centre in Bhopal. Only candidates who clear document verification with valid original certificates are eligible for final selection, even if they qualify the practical test. The minimum qualifying marks in the practical test is 30 percent for both posts. Final selection is based on the combined score of the written exam and the practical test, computed through the normalisation method used by MP ESB for multi-stage exams.

Exam Pattern: Phase 2 Practical Test

Subedar (Anusachivi) Steno-Lekhak

This test carries 100 marks in one hour and covers Hindi shorthand dictation and typing of the transcript. Two dictation passages are given at a speed of 100 words per minute for 5 minutes each, followed by 5 minutes to review the draft and 20 minutes to type the transcript on the computer for each passage. Each dictation is evaluated out of 10 marks, and its typed transcript out of 40 marks, based on errors in omission, addition, spelling, and spacing as defined in the rulebook.

Assistant Sub Inspector (Anusachivi)

This test carries 100 marks in one hour and involves typing two Hindi passages of 600 words each, with 30 minutes given per passage on the computer. Each passage is evaluated out of 50 marks based on the same error-counting method used for the Subedar Steno post. Only content typed on the computer is evaluated; corrections made with pen or pencil are not accepted.
