Vacancy Details

The 1,000 posts are split between two cadres. Constable (Driver) in the Special Armed Force has 200 posts and Constable (Driver) in the District Force, which excludes the Special Armed Force, has 800 posts. The competent authority can post a selected candidate to any unit or branch. The numbers can change before final selection, and no fresh applications are invited if they do.

Special Armed Force - 200 Posts

Category UR SC ST OBC EWS Main Share (87%) Provisional Share (13%) Total
Open 41 24 30 21 15 131 19 150
Ex-Serviceman (10%) 5 3 4 3 2 17 3 20
Home Guard (15%) 8 5 6 4 3 26 4 30
Total 54 32 40 28 20 174 26 200

District Force - 800 Posts

Category UR SC ST OBC EWS Main Share (87%) Provisional Share (13%) Total
Open 162 96 120 84 60 522 78 600
Ex-Serviceman (10%) 22 13 16 11 8 70 10 80
Home Guard (15%) 32 19 24 17 12 104 16 120
Total 216 128 160 112 80 696 104 800

The notification table prints a 13 percent share separately and marks it as provisional, and the other categories add up to the remaining 87 percent. The printed table does not make clear which category the provisional share belongs to, so compare these figures with the official table before relying on any one category number.

Cadre and Unit Preference

While applying, you choose between the Special Armed Force and the District Force and then list your unit preferences. The unit list covers the districts of Madhya Pradesh and three Government Railway Police units at Indore, Jabalpur and Bhopal. Selected candidates are not given their home district, and once posted to a unit they must serve there for at least five years before a transfer to another unit is considered. After appointment a candidate can be posted in any branch of the police or in other departments, inside or outside the state.

Reservation Rules

Posts are reserved vertically for SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates, with horizontal reservation of 15 percent for Home Guards and 10 percent for ex-servicemen. All reservation and age relaxation is available only to candidates who hold Madhya Pradesh domicile. A reserved category candidate who clears the unreserved cut-off without taking any relaxation other than the fee concession is counted in the unreserved list. If no suitable Home Guard or ex-serviceman is found, those posts go to open candidates of the same vertical category and are not carried forward.

Application Fee

The rule book lists two fee heads, the board exam fee and the departmental exam fee of the police department. Page 4 of the rule book says the board collects the departmental fee from candidates and passes it to the police department. The notification does not state one combined total, so confirm the final amount on the payment screen.

Candidate Category MP ESB Exam Fee Police Department Exam Fee
Unreserved candidates Rs 500 Rs 200
SC, ST, OBC and EWS (original residents of Madhya Pradesh only) Rs 250 Rs 100

Apart from this, a portal fee of Rs 60 applies if you fill the form through an MP Online kiosk, and Rs 20 applies if you log in as a registered citizen user and fill it yourself. Payment can be made by debit card, credit card or net banking. If you have none of these, you can pay at an authorised kiosk using the application number.

Each correction in a submitted form costs Rs 20 as correction fee plus Rs 40 as portal fee. If you change your category from reserved to unreserved, you pay the difference in fee. If you change from unreserved to a reserved category, the concession amount is not refunded.

Eligibility Criteria

Education and Licence

  • Unreserved, SC and OBC: Class 10 under the 10+2 system, higher secondary or an equivalent exam from a recognised board.
  • ST: Class 8 or an equivalent exam.
  • Driving licence: A heavy vehicle driving licence is compulsory for every candidate.

The minimum qualification must be complete on the date you fill the form. Anyone who earns a qualification after that date is not considered for these posts, and all required certificates must be in hand by 29 October 2026.

Other Conditions

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India and a male.
  • A candidate with more than two living children, where one was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible. A candidate with one living child whose next birth is of two or more children is not disqualified.
  • Candidates who are not domiciled in Madhya Pradesh can apply only against unreserved open posts and get no reservation or age relaxation.
  • Government employees need prior permission from their appointing authority to sit the exam, and must give an accepted resignation from their earlier service if selected.
  • A person removed from government or semi-government service, or from the army, on disciplinary grounds is not eligible.
  • Home Guard and city soldier candidates must have completed three years of active service on the last date of application.
  • A candidate who gives false information or hides facts can be removed at any stage, even after appointment.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 18 years. The maximum age is counted on 29 October 2026 and depends on category and domicile. The relaxed limits marked for Madhya Pradesh in the notification apply only to candidates who are domiciled in the state.

Candidate Group Maximum Age on 29 October 2026
Male, Madhya Pradesh unreserved 33 years
Male, Madhya Pradesh EWS 33 years
Male, domicile of any other state (all categories) 33 years
Reserved category (SC, ST, OBC) of Madhya Pradesh 38 years
Employees of government, corporation, board or autonomous body, and city soldiers (Madhya Pradesh domicile) 38 years
Inter-caste marriage incentive scheme beneficiary (Madhya Pradesh domicile) 38 years
Vikram Award winner, unreserved 33 + 5 = 38 years
Vikram Award winner, reserved category 38 + 5 = 43 years

Candidates from outside Madhya Pradesh get no relaxation in the maximum age under any circumstance. Other relaxations are as follows.

  • Ex-servicemen: The period of defence service already rendered is deducted from the actual age, as long as the result is not more than 3 years above the upper limit.
  • Retrenched government employees: Up to 7 years of earlier temporary service can be deducted, as long as the result is not more than 3 years above the upper limit.
  • No relaxation: Contract teachers and employees of local bodies such as zila panchayat, janpad panchayat, nagar nigam and nagar palika, and honorary or volunteer workers such as shiksha karmi and panchayat karmi, do not get an age concession.
  • Multiple grounds: If you qualify for more than one concession, you get only the one that gives the highest benefit. Incentive relaxations are added on top of general relaxations.

Candidates seeking a higher age limit must show the certificate in the prescribed format, along with the Madhya Pradesh domicile proof, at the document verification stage.

Pay Scale and Service Terms

The pay scale for Constable (Driver) is Rs 19,500 - 62,000. As per the General Administration Department circular of 12 December 2019 mentioned in the rule book, a new recruit gets a stipend of 70 percent of the minimum pay in the first year, 80 percent in the second year and 90 percent in the third year. Other allowances approved by the government are payable as admissible.

Every selected candidate is appointed on a three-year probation and is sent for the prescribed training. The rule book allows no permanent or temporary exemption from training, and a candidate who does not report on time is dropped from the list, with no medical certificate accepted. A candidate who fails the training gets one more chance. The defined contribution pension system applies to anyone appointed on or after 1 January 2005. These are Class III executive posts.

Selection Process

Selection happens in two stages, and the board and the police department each handle one of them.

Stage 1 - Online Written Exam

MP ESB conducts the computer-based exam. For each post, candidates equal to seven times the advertised posts in a vertical category are shortlisted for the physical test based on a cut-off percentile. Everyone who scores equal to the cut-off percentile is called, even if the total goes above seven times. One common cut-off is set for the Special Armed Force and the District Force, and separate cut-offs are not fixed for the horizontal categories. The cut-off is dynamic and cannot be known before the exam.

Stage 2 - Physical Test, Documents and Trade Test

Police Headquarters runs the second stage through selection committees at physical test centres across the state. It covers the physical efficiency test, document verification and the qualifying trade test. The dates announced by the committee for the physical test are not changed.

Final Merit

Final selection is based on passing the physical efficiency test and trade test, together with the percentile earned in the written exam. Because the exam may be held in several shifts, the board normalises scores with its equi-percentile method. For a two-stage exam like this one, the percentile is converted into a T-score, and the T-score is added to the physical test marks to prepare the merit list. Ties are broken first by proportionate marks in the exam and then in favour of the older candidate.

Only candidates who pass the check of original certificates become eligible for selection, even if they cleared both stages. Character verification is also done, and a provisional waiting list of 15 percent of the advertised posts is prepared, valid for one year from the result or until a new result comes, whichever is earlier.

Home Guard Candidates

The rule book exempts Home Guards from the written exam for constable posts. They get 5, 10 or 15 marks for service of up to five years, more than five and up to ten years, and more than ten years respectively. Home Guards equal to seven times the reserved posts are called for the physical test, and the final selection uses the physical test marks plus the service marks. Ties go to the candidate with longer service and then to the older candidate.

Written Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The written paper is an objective multiple choice test of 100 questions with a time limit of 2 hours. Each correct answer earns 1 mark, and there is no negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions. All questions are at the level of Class 8 of the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education.

Subject Marks
General Knowledge and Reasoning 40
Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude 30
Science and Simple Arithmetic 30
Total 100

The rule book describes the paper as a Hindi language test in one place and as Hindi or English medium in another, so read the instructions on your admit card to know which applies. The exam is expected to be held in two shifts from 4 January 2027, as shown below.

Shift Reporting Time Instruction Reading Exam Time
First 8:00 to 9:00 AM 9:50 to 10:00 AM 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon
Second 1:00 to 2:00 PM 2:50 to 3:00 PM 3:00 to 5:00 PM

Applicants choose four exam city preferences while filling the form, and the board allots centres at random based on seat availability. A different city can be allotted, and requests to change the centre are not accepted. The likely cities are Anuppur, Badwani, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Neemuch, Ratlam, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi and Ujjain.

Answer Key and Objections

After the exam, the board opens an online link on its website for objections, and it stays active for three days. An objection can be raised once per question and costs Rs 150 per question or answer plus other charges. Physical objections are not considered, and the decision of the expert committee on the final answer key is final. Recounting and re-evaluation are not allowed after the result.

Physical Efficiency Test

The physical efficiency test carries a maximum of 40 marks and consists of an 800 metre run, for which every candidate gets one chance. Home Guards and ex-servicemen are marked on a relaxed time table. The table below shows selected points from the full marking scheme in the rule book, where each mark is a band of roughly two seconds.

Marks General Standard (seconds) Home Guard and Ex-Serviceman Standard (seconds)
40 124.2 or less 146.5 or less
35 More than 131.8 up to 133.7 More than 154.5 up to 156.5
30 More than 141.3 up to 143.2 More than 164.5 up to 166.5
25 More than 150.8 up to 152.7 More than 174.5 up to 176.5
20 More than 160.3 up to 162.2 More than 184.5 up to 186.5
15 More than 169.8 up to 171.7 More than 194.5 up to 196.5
10 More than 179.3 up to 181.2 More than 204.5 up to 206.5
8 More than 183.1 up to 185 More than 208.5 up to 210.5
5 More than 188.8 up to 190.7 More than 214.5 up to 216.5
0 More than 198.3 More than 224.5

Candidates must score a minimum in this test to be considered for appointment. The rule book states this as 30 percent of the maximum, written as 8 marks out of 40, but 8 out of 40 is actually 20 percent. The notification does not settle this, so read the official text before the test. The marking table also carries a footnote that mentions a weight of 7.26 kg without explaining it.

The trade test is only qualifying in nature, so its marks are not added to the merit. Physical standards at the test are checked as given in the next section.

Physical and Medical Standards

The measurements below apply to male candidates. Where the chest measure is above the minimum, the candidate must be able to expand it by at least 5 cm. No relaxation in physical standards is given at any stage.

Cadre and Group Height Chest Without Expansion Chest With Expansion
District Force - Unreserved, SC, OBC 168 cm 81 cm 86 cm
District Force - ST 160 cm 76 cm 81 cm
Special Armed Force - Unreserved, OBC 168 cm 79 cm 84 cm
Special Armed Force - Gorkha, Garhwali, Kumaon 157 cm 79 cm 84 cm
Special Armed Force - Maratha, SC, ST 165 cm 79 cm 84 cm

The District Medical Board checks height, chest expansion and general health. Vision in one eye must be at least 6/9 without glasses and the other eye at least 6/12, with the ability to tell main colours using plates. Knock-knee, flat foot or any physical disability disqualifies a candidate and there must be no eye disease. A candidate who is declared unfit can apply for a review by the Divisional Medical Board, and if the two boards disagree, the department sends the case to the State Medical Board. A gazetted police officer is present at every stage and the checks are video recorded.
