Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess any one of the following qualifications: B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Sc (IT), BCA, B.E (Computer Science), B.Tech, MCA, M.Sc (Computer Science), M.E (Computer Science), M.Tech, or M.Sc (IT).

Age Limit

As on 1 September 2026, candidates should have completed 18 years of age and should not have completed 35 years of age, meaning they should not have been born before 2 September 1991. Candidates outside this age range will be summarily rejected, and no correspondence will be entertained on age-related grounds.

Selection Process

Selection to the post of Data Entry Operator will be made through a Written-cum-Skill Test followed by a Viva Voce.

The written-cum-skill test will be of 60 minutes duration. Candidates will be shortlisted for the viva voce as per merit in the written-cum-skill test, in the ratio of 1:3, from among those who clear the qualifying marks. If two or more candidates score equal marks at any stage, all such candidates will be called for the next stage.

The final merit list will be prepared based on the total marks secured in the written-cum-skill test and viva voce combined. In case of a tie in the total marks, the candidate senior in age will be ranked higher in the merit list.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Written Examination (25 Marks)

The written test consists of 25 objective type, multiple choice questions, with one mark each. The syllabus covers the following topics:

• Windows and Linux basics, including file and folder management, user accounts, and basic commands
• Networking concepts such as LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, IP address, DNS, DHCP, and network security basics
• PDF and document handling, including Office and Excel basics, PDF creation and conversion, and digital signatures
• Video conferencing concepts, including WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and related hardware components
• Hardware troubleshooting, covering CPU, RAM, HDD/SSD, printers, scanners, and preventive maintenance
• Internet basics, including browsers, email, cloud services, and cyber security fundamentals

Skill Test (25 Marks)

The skill test will assess practical computer skills, including scanning and converting documents to OCR, converting PDF files to OCR, handling LibreOffice, configuring local area networks and IP settings, and hardware troubleshooting with driver installation.

Viva Voce (50 Marks)

The viva voce is intended to assess a candidate's mental alertness, skills, attitude, ethics, character, and experience in computer skills, computer networks, databases, and operating systems.

Nature of Work

Selected Data Entry Operators will be posted at eSewa Kendras and will be responsible for duties connected with eCourts services, including:

• Handling inquiries about case status, next hearing date, and related details
• Assisting with video conferencing appearances and hearings
• Facilitating online applications for certified copies and related filings
• Assisting in e-filing of petitions, from scanning to uploading into the case information system
• Data entry work related to eServices, and assisting with online purchase of e-stamp papers and e-payments
• Helping litigants obtain Aadhaar-based digital signatures
• Guiding people on availing free legal services from Legal Service Authorities and Committees
• Assisting with online disposal and compounding of traffic challans in virtual courts
• Any other work assigned by the Registrar (IT-cum-Statistics), Madras High Court

Examination Centres and Result

The written-cum-skill test and viva voce will be conducted at the campus of the Principal District Court of the district concerned, or at any other venue notified by the District Court. Requests for change of venue will not be entertained under any circumstances.

The shortlisted candidates list, the date of viva voce and certificate verification, and the final selection list will be published only on the official recruitment portal and the respective District Court website. No personal intimation will be sent by post or courier.

Documents Required for Final Selection

The notification specifies that final selection will be decided only after scrutiny and verification of original documents and testimonials at the certificate verification stage.
