JTET 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must check the complete eligibility criteria before applying. All conditions must be met as on the date of advertisement publication.
General Conditions
- Candidate must be a citizen of India.
- Candidate must not be convicted by a competent court in any criminal case.
- Must meet the educational and training qualifications as mentioned below.
Age Limit for JTET 2026
- Minimum Age: 21 years as on 01 August of the exam year.
- Maximum Age: As per Jharkhand government service age rules set by the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department, Ranchi.
- Age relaxation is applicable for reserved category candidates as per government norms.
- Para teachers (Assistant Teachers) working under Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), Ranchi with minimum 2 years of continuous service as on the advertisement date get age relaxation up to 58 years.
- All candidates get age relaxation of 1 year (excluding the gap between previous and upcoming JTET) as a one-time benefit.
Educational Qualification for JTET 2026
Level 1 - Primary School Teachers (Class 1 to 5)
Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:
- Passed +2 (Senior Secondary) or equivalent with minimum 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) [for those enrolled on or after 09.12.2007]
- OR Passed +2 or equivalent with minimum 45% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE Recognition Norms 2002 [for those enrolled before 09.12.2007]
- OR Passed +2 or equivalent with minimum 50% marks AND 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
- OR Passed +2 or equivalent with minimum 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
- OR Graduation AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by any name)
Note: SC / ST / OBC-1 / OBC-2 / PVTG / Divyang candidates get 5% relaxation in minimum marks in training qualification.
Level 2 - Upper Primary School Teachers (Class 6 to 8)
Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:
- Graduation (or equivalent) AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.)
- OR Graduation with minimum 50% marks AND B.Ed. [for those enrolled after 29.07.2011]
- OR Graduation with minimum 45% marks AND B.Ed. as per NCTE norms [for those enrolled before 29.07.2011]
- OR Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with minimum 50% marks AND 4-year B.El.Ed.
- OR Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with minimum 50% marks AND 4-year B.A.Ed. / B.Sc.Ed. (BA.Ed. / BSc.Ed.)
- OR Graduation with minimum 50% marks AND B.Ed. (Special Education)
- OR Post-Graduate with minimum 55% marks AND 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.
For Maths and Science teachers: Must have 3-year graduation in Science / Engineering / Agriculture / Mathematics as per UGC notification and cleared 10+2 with at least two science subjects.
For Social Science teachers: Must have 3-year graduation in Arts / Humanities / Social Sciences / Commerce as per UGC notification.
For Language teachers: Must have minimum 3-year graduation or graduation (Honours) in the relevant language from Schedule-I of the rules.
Special Trained Assistant Teacher (Class 1 to 5 and 6 to 8)
Candidates with special education training qualifications and valid RCI CRR No. are also eligible as per the detailed norms mentioned in the official notification.
JTET 2026 Exam Pattern
Exam Structure Overview
- The exam has two levels: Level 1 (Class 1-5) and Level 2 (Class 6-8).
- A candidate may appear in one or both levels.
- Each level has one composite question paper.
- Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes for each level.
- Visually impaired, Cerebral Palsy, and both-hand disabled candidates get extra 30 minutes and scribe facility.
- All questions are objective type (MCQ) - no negative marking.
- Answers to be marked on OMR sheet in black or blue ink only.
- Medium of question paper: Hindi and English. Language subject papers will be in the respective language.

JTET 2026 Syllabus
The JTET 2026 syllabus is based on the state government approved curriculum. Key topics include:

JTET 2026 Language Options (Schedule-I)
The JTET 2026 Rules list tribal and regional languages for Language-II paper. The languages are district-wise as follows (partial list):

Rules and Important Points for JTET 2026
- Candidates who previously applied under Advertisement No. 30/2024 must apply fresh as per new rules regarding Language-I selection and other details. No additional fee is required for these candidates.
- Candidates currently in final semester / year of required training may also apply with a condition that they must submit final mark sheet by a date fixed by JAC, failing which their candidature will be cancelled.
- Admit card will be available on JAC website only. No admit card will be sent by post.
- Passing JTET 2026 does not give any right or claim for appointment as Assistant Teacher. It is only an eligibility test.
- Candidates involved in malpractice will be barred from the next two examinations.
- JTET certificate issued to successful candidates is valid for lifetime.
- After result publication, OMR sheets will not be re-evaluated and no applications for re-checking will be accepted.
- All information in the online application must be filled carefully. No corrections will be allowed after submission.
