Age Limit and Relaxation

The age limit is 18 to 25 years, counted as on 27 October 2026. In birth-date terms, you should not be born before 28 October 2001 or after 27 October 2008. The date of birth in your Matriculation certificate is the only proof accepted, and it cannot be changed later.

Certificates for Reserved Categories

An OBC (NCL) certificate must be based on income for the three financial years 2025-26, 2024-25 and 2023-24. An EWS certificate must be based on the financial year before the year of application. All of these must be in your hands before 27 October 2026, and only the formats attached to the notification are accepted. If you cannot produce the right certificate when asked, your claim is dropped and you are treated as UR.

Physical and Medical Standards

Height and Chest

Weight should be proportionate to height and age, as per the uniform medical guidelines issued by ADG (Medical), CAPFs. Anyone claiming a height or chest relaxation must submit the Annexure-V certificate when the Recruitment Board asks for it.

Eyesight and Fitness

• Distant vision must be 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye without glasses; correction of any kind is not permitted.
• Near vision must be N6 in the better eye and N9 in the worse eye, with colour vision CP III by Ishihara and binocular vision.
• A colour blind person is not eligible for appointment.
• Knock knees, flat foot, varicose veins and squint are not allowed.

Tattoo Rules

Tattoos showing religious symbols or figures and names, as followed in the Indian Army, are permitted. They must be on the inner side of the left forearm or the back of the hands, and smaller than a quarter of that body part. A tattoo that has been removed and faded substantially is treated as a scar, and the candidate can continue with the approval of the Presiding Officer.

How the Selection Works

The process runs in four phases, and anyone who fails a stage is out at that point. One detail worth noticing: document verification happens before the written exam, so any gap in your certificates will surface early.

Phase I: Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test

The PET is qualifying only and carries no marks. You must clear every event, and there is no appeal against PET results.

Ex-servicemen skip the PET. Those who clear it face the PST, where height, chest and weight are checked. If you fall short on height or chest, you can appeal in writing to the Presiding Officer the same day for re-measurement, and that decision is final. Underweight or overweight candidates are not stopped at PST; the final call comes at the medical examination.

Phase II: Documents and Written Examination

Originals are checked on the spot and returned, with self-attested copies kept. The written test is 100 marks in 2 hours, objective type, at the standard of Class 12. Whether it is computer based or OMR based is left to ITBPF.

The paper has 20 questions each in Hindi and English, and you attempt one language. The qualifying cut-off is 35 percent for General, EWS and ex-servicemen, and 33 percent for SC and OBC (NCL). Mobile phones, calculators and digital watches are banned in the hall, and simply carrying one counts as unfair means. The answer key will be posted on the recruitment website after the exam.

Phase III: Practical Skill Test and Merit List

Candidates up to ten times the category-wise vacancies, ranked by written marks, are called for the skill test. It carries 50 marks and is qualifying, with 50 percent needed in every category.

The final merit list for each category is drawn on written examination marks, not skill test marks. Ties are broken by older age first and then by alphabetical order. There will be no reserve list.

Phase IV: Medical Examinations

Shortlisted candidates go through the Detailed Medical Examination (DME). Those declared unfit can opt for a Review Medical Examination (RME) by submitting a signed consent within 24 hours. There is no "temporary unfit" verdict, and the Review Medical Board's decision is final.

Applications are accepted only online through the ITBPF recruitment website. Offline applications are rejected summarily.

1. Confirm that you meet the age, education, trade experience and physical standards, and keep your Matriculation certificate and category certificates ready.

Rules Worth Knowing Before You Apply

• Biometric capture is done before PET and PST and can be repeated at any stage. If mehndi or wax stops the machine from reading your fingerprint, you will not be allowed to appear.
• Selected candidates must serve for at least 10 years. Leaving earlier means refunding three months of pay and allowances or the training cost, whichever is higher.
• Every stage from PET to DME is covered by CCTV or videography.
• No travelling or daily allowance is paid for reaching the recruitment venue, and candidates should be ready to stay more than one day at their own cost.
