Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for this course rests on four things: who you are, how old you are, what you studied, and where you studied it. Read each carefully, because the notification is strict about all of them.

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of settling permanently in India. Nepal subjects and persons of Indian origin need a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, except for Gorkha subjects of Nepal, who do not need one. Attach the certificate to your application if it applies to you.

Age Limit

The age limit is 20 to 27 years as on 1 July 2027. In practical terms, you must have been born not earlier than 1 July 2000 and not later than 30 June 2007. Only the date of birth printed on the matriculation or secondary school examination certificate (or an equivalent certificate) on the date of application will be accepted. No other age document is considered, and later requests to change the date are not entertained.

Educational Qualification

You need a BE or B.Tech degree, or an M.Sc in Computer Science, in one of the engineering streams notified in the vacancy table below. Degrees in any other stream are not accepted. The degree must come from a university or institution recognised by an Act of Parliament or a Central or State Legislature in India, or one declared deemed or autonomous under the UGC Act 1956, IIT Act 1961, AICTE Act 1987, NITSER Act 2007 or IIIT Act 2024. Candidates who graduated from a foreign country cannot apply.

Rules for Final Year Students

Students in the final year of an engineering degree can apply, with conditions that are easy to miss:

• Your final year or final semester result must be declared on or before 1 July 2027. Candidates whose result comes after that date are not eligible.
• You must send proof of passing the engineering degree, along with marksheets of all semesters or years, to TGC Entry, West Block III, R.K. Puram, New Delhi-110066 by 1 July 2027.
• The engineering degree certificate itself must be produced within 12 weeks of the start of training at IMA. If you cannot, your candidature may be cancelled.
• Such candidates are inducted on an additional bond basis, which allows the Army to recover the cost of training, stipend, pay and allowances if the degree certificate is not produced.
• For SSB, your cumulative percentage up to the 6th semester or 3rd year of engineering, the 8th semester or 4th year of B.Arch, or the 2nd semester or 1st year of M.Sc must not be below the approved cut-off for your stream. The cumulative percentage up to the final semester or year must also stay above the cut-off after results are declared.

Who Cannot Apply

Candidates who were withdrawn, dismissed, removed or invalided out of any defence training academy on disciplinary, administrative or medical grounds, in a way that makes them ineligible for further military service, cannot apply. The same applies to candidates withdrawn from NDA, IMA, OTA, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy or any service training academy on disciplinary grounds. A candidate must also never have been debarred from any UPSC examination, and must never have been arrested, convicted or involved in any case before a criminal court.

Stream-Wise Vacancy Details

The 30 vacancies are divided by engineering stream, and your merit is worked out only against candidates of your own stream. The notification lists a long set of acceptable equivalent degree names under each core stream, so check the full table in the official notification for the exact name on your degree.

Two points in the notification deserve attention. First, the vacancies are tentative and may be changed or re-appropriated depending on organisational requirements. Second, recommended candidates who miss out on a TGC-145 seat because their merit falls outside their stream vacancies may be offered the Short Service Commission (Tech) Course starting October 2027, provided they meet all other conditions and unused vacancies exist in their stream.

Physical Standards Before Joining the Academy

The notification places these minimum physical standards under its special emphasis note. A candidate must reach them before joining the training academy.

Selection Process

There is no written examination. Selection depends on your marks up to the final semester, your performance at the Service Selection Board, and medical fitness.

Shortlisting of Applications

Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) can shortlist applications based on the vacancy to call-up ratio for each engineering stream, without assigning any reason. A cut-off is applied stream by stream on the cumulative percentage of marks up to the final semester or year. The online form converts marks to a percentage using a simple formula, and this is used for shortlisting. However, the percentage given by your college or university after applying its own CGPA to percentage formula is treated as final. If that figure falls below the cut-off, you should not report for SSB even if you were shortlisted on the marks you entered.

SSB Centre and Date

After shortlisting, you log in to the website and choose your SSB dates and centre, which are available on a first come, first served basis. Once chosen, the centre and date will not be changed on request. The Directorate General of Recruiting reserves the right to change them, and the option to choose may be withdrawn in exceptional circumstances.

Conduct of SSB

Shortlisted candidates are called to one of four selection centres: Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bengaluru (Karnataka) or Jalandhar (Punjab). The call-up letter is sent only through your registered email ID and SMS. The SSB is a two-stage process lasting a maximum of five days. Candidates who clear Stage-1 move to Stage-2, while those who fail Stage-1 are sent back the same day.

Medical Examination

Candidates recommended after Stage-2 go through a medical examination. An SSB medical is valid for 270 days, counted from the Special Medical Board (SMB) date to the joining date. If you already cleared an Army SSB medical (SMB, AMB or RMB) and were declared fit, you need not repeat it after the TGC-145 SSB, provided your SMB falls less than 270 days before 1 July 2027. Candidates already training at any Army pre-commission academy do not need a fresh medical. Medical board proceedings are confidential, and the Directorate General of Recruiting plays no role in them.

Merit List and Joining Letter

Clearing the SSB alone does not confirm selection. The merit list is prepared stream by stream on SSB marks. If SSB marks are equal, the older candidate ranks higher, and if age is also equal, the candidate with the higher degree percentage ranks higher. Higher qualifications and earlier performance play no role. Candidates who fall within their stream vacancies and are medically fit receive joining letters for IMA Dehradun. If a candidate does not report within 7 days of the reporting date without prior permission from the academy adjutant, the candidature is cancelled and the next candidate in merit gets the letter.

Commission, Training and Service Conditions

Training at IMA Dehradun lasts about 12 months, and its entire cost is borne by the government. Selected candidates are granted a Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lieutenant from the course start date or the date of reporting at IMA, whichever is later. On successful completion of training, cadets receive a Permanent Commission as Lieutenant. Engineering graduates of TGC entry also get one year of ante-date seniority from the date of commission for seniority, promotion and pay increments.

Three conditions are worth knowing before you apply:

• Marriage: Candidates may not marry during training or live with parents or guardians. A cadet who marries during training is discharged and must refund all government expenditure on him. A candidate who marries after the date of his application will not be inducted, even if he clears the SSB and medical.
• Cost recovery: A cadet withdrawn for reasons other than medical grounds or reasons beyond his control must refund the cost of training at a tentative ₹20,481.96 per week, with an 8% annual increment, as per the Ministry of Defence letter cited in the notification.
• Arms and services: The final allotment of arm or service is made before passing out from IMA, at the sole discretion of Integrated HQ of MoD (Army). No representation on this is entertained.

On joining the Army, certain personal restrictions apply under Article 33 of the Constitution of India as reflected in the Army Act and Army Rules.

Pay, Stipend and Allowances

During training at IMA Dehradun, officer cadets receive a fixed stipend of ₹56,100 per month, which is the starting pay of Level 10 in the pay matrix. After commissioning, pay is fixed at the first cell of Level 10, and the training period is not counted as commissioned service. Arrears of admissible allowances for the training period are paid to cadets.

Higher ranks from Brigadier up to COAS are promoted on a selection basis, subject to service conditions. Apart from basic pay, the notification lists these benefits:

• Military Service Pay of ₹15,500 per month for officers from Lieutenant to Brigadier.
• Dearness Allowance at the same rates and conditions as civilian personnel.
• Technical Allowance of ₹3,000 per month (Tier-I) or ₹4,500 per month (Tier-II), and Para Reserve Allowance of ₹2,625 per month, applicable only where the qualification or eligibility conditions are met.
• Dress Allowance of ₹20,000 per year and Ration in Kind in peace and field areas.
• Transport Allowance of ₹7,200 plus DA per month in the listed higher transport cities such as Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Pune and Bengaluru, and ₹3,600 plus DA per month at other places.
• Children Education Allowance of ₹2,250 per month per child and Hostel Subsidy of ₹6,750 per month per child, for the two eldest surviving children only.
• Field area, hardship and risk allowances for officers posted to such areas, as per the rate matrix in the notification.

Officer cadets receiving a stipend are insured for ₹1.25 crore under the Army Group Insurance Fund, and pay a monthly subscription of ₹12,500 in advance. For cadets invalided out on account of disability with no pension, ₹25 lakh is paid for 100 percent disability, reduced proportionately to ₹5 lakh for 20 percent, and an ex-gratia grant of ₹50,000 applies below 20 percent. Disability caused by alcoholism, drug addiction or diseases of pre-enrolment origin does not qualify. Pay, allowances and rules are subject to revision from time to time.

How to Apply for Indian Army TGC-145 July 2027 Online Form

Applications are accepted only online. Because nothing can be changed after closure, fill in the form slowly and verify each field against your certificates.

1. Visit the Indian Army recruitment portal and click Officer Entry Apply/Login, then click Registration. If you are already registered on the website, you can skip registration. Keep your Aadhaar number and matriculation certificate ready, because both are mandatory for registration.
2. Read the instructions carefully and fill in the online registration form.
3. After registering, click Apply Online under the Dashboard. A page called Officers Selection Eligibility will open. Click Apply against Technical Graduate Course.
4. On the Application Form page, read the instructions and click Continue. Fill in the details under Personal information, Communication details, Education details and details of previous SSB, and click Save and Continue each time before moving to the next segment.
5. Enter your graduation marks after converting CGPA or grades into marks using the formula followed by your university. Your name, parents' names and date of birth must match your matriculation or secondary school certificate exactly.
6. On the Summary of your information page, check and edit your entries. Click Submit only after you are sure every detail is correct, and click Submit again every time you reopen the form to change something.
7. Thirty minutes after the online application closes on the last day, take two printouts of your application that carry your Roll Number. Keep the second copy for reference, as no hard copy needs to be sent to the Directorate General of Recruiting.

Mistakes That Can Cancel Your Candidature

The notification repeats a few warnings in a special emphasis box, and they are where most avoidable rejections happen.

• Stream mismatch: Any difference between the stream name on your degree certificate or marksheet and the one you enter online leads to cancellation.
• Name variation: Your name and your parents' names must match your matriculation or secondary school certificate. If there is any variation, you must submit an affidavit stating it.
• Marks discrepancy: CGPA or grades must be converted into marks using your university's formula. A discrepancy noticed at any stage of selection leads to cancellation.
• Multiple applications: Submit only one online application. Several applications from the same candidate result in cancellation.
• Hidden information: You must disclose all material information, including any earlier training at an academy, release, withdrawal, resignation, dismissal, or medical invalidment or unfitness. Suppression can lead to cancellation at any stage, even after commission.

Documents to Carry to the SSB

Carry self-attested copies along with the originals to the selection centre. DigiLocker certificates are not accepted in place of original certificates. If your school or college issues only e-certificates through DigiLocker, get a letter from the Principal or Registrar saying so, and carry a colour printout of the e-certificate authenticated by the institution. Originals are returned after verification at the SSB itself. A candidate who does not carry the required documents is returned and the candidature is cancelled.

• Printout of the application, signed and carrying a self-attested photograph.
• Matriculation or secondary school certificate and marksheet. This is the only proof accepted for date of birth, candidate name and parents' names. If parents' names are missing on it, carry a government-issued document such as PAN card, Aadhaar card, passport or driving licence whose names match the online application exactly.
• Class 12 marksheet and certificate, or diploma marksheet and certificate for diploma holders.
• Engineering degree or provisional degree from a recognised university. A provisional degree must not be more than six months old when you join the academy.
• Marksheets of all semesters or years.
• A certificate from the Controller of Examination or Registrar of your university on the CGPA or grade to marks conversion formula.
• For final year candidates: a certificate of cumulative percentage up to the 6th semester or 3rd year (8th semester or 4th year for B.Arch, 2nd semester or 1st year for M.Sc) from the university or college head, a certificate from the Principal that you are in the final year and your result will be declared by 1 July 2027, and your declaration that you will submit proof of passing by that date.
• Documents related to civil verification.
• Affidavit stating variations, if there is any difference in name details across your documents.

Other Important Rules

• Candidates serving in the Armed Forces must inform their Commanding Officer in writing, and must carry the application countersigned by the Commanding Officer to the SSB.
• Candidates attending an SSB for a particular type of commission for the first time are entitled to AC-III Tier railway fare or bus fare, including reservation and sleeper charges, within India. Repeat applicants for the same commission type are not entitled to it later.
