Selected candidates will be commissioned as Captain in the Indian Army's Remount and Veterinary Corps (RVC). The initial engagement is for 5 years, extendable up to 14 years or more based on performance and Army requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) or BVSc and AH (Animal Husbandry) degree from a recognized Indian university.
  • Foreign degrees are acceptable only if recognized under the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984.
  • The degree must be a full-time regular course from an institution recognized by the Veterinary Council of India.
  • Candidates who have completed post-graduate degrees (MVSc or higher) will receive additional seniority benefits at the time of commissioning. However, the postgraduate degree certificate must be available at the time of commissioning, not later.

Registration

  • Candidates must hold a valid permanent registration with the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) or any State Veterinary Council at the time of application.
  • This registration is mandatory and non-negotiable for eligibility.

  • Age is calculated as on the date of commencement of the 95th SSC Course.

Roles and Responsibilities of RVC Officer

  • Providing veterinary care and treatment to Army animals, including dogs, horses, and mules, across all terrains and operational conditions.
  • Managing breeding, training, and rehabilitation programs for military working animals.
  • Conducting food hygiene inspections — ensuring safety and quality of meat, milk, and other food supplies for troops.
  • Participating in specialized peacekeeping missions, counter-insurgency operations, and disaster relief operations.
  • Overseeing remount depots and animal transport units attached to the Indian Army.
  • Supporting Army units in high-altitude, desert, and other extreme environment deployments that rely on animal transport.

Selection Process

  • There is no written examination for this recruitment. Selection is entirely based on the SSB Interview and Medical Examination.
  • Stage 1 — Screening of Applications: All applications are screened by the Directorate General of Remount and Veterinary Services (RVS). Eligible candidates are shortlisted for the SSB interview based on academic performance and eligibility.
  • Stage 2 — SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear for a 5-day SSB interview at one of the designated Selection Centres — Allahabad, Bhopal, Bengaluru, or Gandhinagar. The SSB evaluates intelligence, personality, leadership qualities, decision-making, and officer-like qualities through psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews.
  • Stage 3 — Medical Examination: Candidates who qualify the SSB are sent for a comprehensive medical examination at a military hospital as per prescribed Army medical standards.
