Educational Qualification

• M.Sc. / M.Sc.(Tech.) in Physics, Geophysics, Space Physics, Atmospheric Science, Applied Geology, Applied Mathematics, Applied Geophysics, Marine Geophysics, or allied subjects.
• Minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in M.Sc. / M.Sc.(Tech.).
• Physics or Mathematics must be a subject in B.Sc.
• Candidates appearing in the Master's degree final year exam in the current year and expecting results before August 2026 are also eligible to apply.
• SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwBD/EWS candidates will get a relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent grade on production of a valid certificate from a competent authority, as per UGC notification.

Age Limit

• Maximum Age: 27 years as on 01 July 2026.
• Age relaxation as per Government of India reservation policy for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS candidates.

Selection Process

• Candidates with a valid GATE/NET/INSPIRE (JRF) certificate in the relevant subjects will be called directly for an Interview.
• Candidates who do not hold a valid GATE/NET/INSPIRE certificate must appear for the IIG Entrance Exam, followed by an Interview at IIG, Navi Mumbai.
• Minimum qualifying marks for the Entrance Exam: 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS candidates).
• During the selection process: 70% weightage for the exam and 30% weightage for the interview.
• Entrance exam will consist of 50% subject-specific questions and 50% general questions, including basic research methodology relevant to IIG research areas.
• Government of India reservation policy is followed.

Scholarship and Tenure

The selected Research Scholar will be appointed as JRF (Junior Research Fellow) and may later be upgraded to SRF (Senior Research Fellow). Fellowship and tenure will be as per the guidelines of Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG).

Travel Assistance

Outstation candidates called for the interview will be reimbursed second class train fare by the shortest route, subject to submission of a photocopy of a valid confirmed/RAC travel ticket, as per IIG's existing policy.
